- ___"Midnight, the Stars and You", by Al Bowlly with Ray Noble and His Orchestra, is a 1934 song that accompanies the end of Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" (1980).
Recorded: February 16, 1934
Label: Victor Records 24700
___Albert Allick Bowlly (7 January 1898 -- 17 April 1941) was a Mozambican born South African singer, songwriter, composer and band leader, who became a popular jazz crooner during the British dance band era of the 1930s and later worked in the United States. He recorded more than 1,000 records between 1927 and 1941. His most popular songs include "Midnight, the Stars and You", "Goodnight, Sweetheart", "The Very Thought of You", "Guilty" and "Love Is the Sweetest Thing".
"midnight with the stars and you
midnight and a rendez-vous
your eyes held a message tender
saying "I surrender all my love to you"
midnight brought us sweet romance
I know all my whole life through
I'll be remembering you
whatever else I do
midnight with the stars and you"

This song never gets old
I’m like 4 hours into the 10 hour version lol I like letting it play at a low volume
@@fujifrontierYou're definitely a specific type.
@@rickifriki it’s mainly when I get agitated at work, I’m wasn’t listening to it all 10 hours at a time haha
@@fujifrontier Oh ok, cool.
This song will be forever played in my household, cos it's my 19 year old daughter favorite song.
Hey guys I just got this job at a really cozy hotel called the Overlook. I really excited to bring my family up there too! Wish me luck guys!!!!!!!😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
I heard a guy went crazy and killed his family up there in 1970! Another guy tried to do the same thing but didn’t succeed,be careful up there!
@@tenti3266 it’s haunted
I was a bellboy at the Overlook hotel in the 1920's. The job gave me access to all the parties they had, and the site of such happenings drove me to madness.
But the overlook already has a caretaker since.......... forever
But you’ve always been the caretaker 😉
Thank you Stanley Kubrick for introducing this amazing song to me
American music from the very late 1800s like Ragtime all the way through and up to the 1940s...pure magic!
Al Bowlly was born in Mozambique to British / South African parents, and became famous in English dancehalls. But yes, I do agree that the USA produced some incredible music in the late 19th - early 20th Century
This great piece will remain forever disturbing in its beauty thanks to Kubrik!
Almost as much time has passed since The Shining was made (42 yrs) as the time between this song and The Shining (46 yrs).
It's beautiful. It's so, so sad that it's not coming back.
THIS WAS CLASS NOT TRASH LIKE TODAY ACTORS? DRUG ADDICTS, DRUNKS, TRAMPS ETC LOL NO TALENT AT ALL ITS GONE THAT BYGONE GREAT ERA
@@ralphgar3690 agree but no need tô capslock
@@ralphgar3690 So True, This is when Music Had Class.
If you love this genre of music it will never really disappear.
@@ralphgar3690 there was still a lot of that back then
The singer Al Bowlly was very popular in England in the early 30s. This same year, 1934, he and Ray Noble made the first recording of the classic song The Very Thought of You.
He died in The Blitz. April 16, 1941 at approximately 3:10 AM, a Luftwaffe parachute mine exploded outside Al Bowlly’s flat. There were no visible marks on his body. He was buried in a mass grave with other bombing victims.
I was taking care of an old friend with Alzheimer's for a few months. A couple of decades earlier, she was a friend of mine who was an intelligent and seemingly, very Christian woman, but, by now, had no short-term memory. As a matter of fact, she made a goldfish seem like Rain Man. You'd think
this might be hard to deal with, but I found ways to entertain her for hours by playing the same songs she loved, many times over, like "Dancing Cheek To Cheek", each time seeming like a new experience for her that might have taken her back to a more meaningful time. Unfortunately for her, she kept on
thinking her house she lived in for over 50 years was MY house, and, if I didn't watch her, she'd be out the door looking for the that non-existent house. Since she had no short term memory, I felt that, if I didn't stop her, she MIGHT have ended up in the Pacific, for she was ALWAYS heading West when she got out the door. Anyway, because she kept on thinking her house my house, taking the "mi casa, su casa" to an extreme, I couldn't help but think of that scene in the movie, "The Shining", where the Jack Nicholson character was told by the character, Grady, that he was ALWAYS the caretaker, something the Nicholson character had no memory of. Because of that, I'd think of this song played at the very end of "The Shining", and, I'd play it for my old friend. She loved it, and, I'd play it over and over for her. As the song played, if she wasn't saying, "I'm thinking about this house", she'd ask me about MY house, which, again, was hers, and, I'd say with a with a British accent as I impersonated the Grady character from "The Shining", "You're the caretaker of this house, Miss Potter. You've ALWAYS been the caretaker, if I may be so bold." When I asked her where she thought her "REAL" house was, she would always point West. Believe it or not, there was a graveyard just some yards WEST of her house, and, she'd point to it. Looking back on it all, I'm thinking she might have been right... all that time.
That would be Fred Astaire who sang dancing cheek to cheek with Ginger Rogers in top hat in 1935
This story is amazing😥
I would love to hear this song at a hotel on Halloween.
i would not stop smiling like a dumbass

"Will that be all Mr. Torrence?"
Hi Lloyd it’s good to be back
@@gezzly72 You've always been the caretaker here......(or words to that effect). Incidentally, Al Bowlly was killed in London during a bombing raid in WW2. He was offered overnight accommodation connected to an engagement he'd done in north west London (in those days very much out in the suburbs and almost the countryside) but turned it down to go back to his Central London home. So sad, such a great talent.
Laura Barber I never knew that
@@gezzly72 Greetings, Mr. Torrance
Your money is no good here, Mister Torrance.
Pure class...
Damn you Stanley Kubrick for ruining this delightful song for me. Now all I see is that creepy photo in The Shining
another drink Mr Torrance ? hahahahahahaha
Was it you in the third picture Sir? I mean, the young man covered in blood and a beautiful smile
He didn't ruin it he's the reason why I love this song so much
Maybe for you, but me, when I finish watching the shining I sit back and enjoy, just hearing that while the camera rolls in and the song echoes arcros the halls of the hotel, so relaxing, sometimes I play the shining and skip to the end to hear it!
Lol

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
What a great combination! Photography has the power to capture precious moments, while music adds an emotionally engaging soundtrack. Together, they create an experience that stimulates the senses and evokes vivid memories. It's wonderful to see how these two art forms can complement each other so well. What kind of music and photography do you enjoy the most? 📷🎶
