    Glad I found this video, was looking at getting one today.
    Will look at other brands now.

      What mask would you recommend buying today?

    I have a similar problem with my speedglas 9100fx, welding and grinding and can feel the smell of the fumes inside the mask. Dont know where the problem is.

    I have the 9100 XXI air hood is the newer version of the hood with the venting that comes over the top not the side it is not a slip up but it seals very well and I use the older PA PR 300+ air pump my shop as well ventilated so when I need to flip my mask up I'm usually done welding and the shop clears the room I've had very good luck with this hood if you have problems with yours always make sure you contact 3M most of their products have a warranty and they've always been there willing to help

    2 weeks since I received my g5-01 vc. Did a hell lot of grinding and welding in various positions, tight spaces and coworkers throwing sparks at me a few times. And
    I think that your air filter has a problem.
    Dust’ve been stopped at the foam joint. And the inside of my hood is very clean. No dust.
    Being a bit scared by this video i checked my nose every day after work, with a q-tip. And it wasn’t dirty. So I’m pretty happy about the filtration.
    THEREFORE, i agree with you about the quality of the neck seal which i will very soon fix with a bit of silicone.
    And because of that i wouldn’t trust the mask with a gaz filter on…
    And the head gear is not very good either. Flimsy, seems fragile, moves too much on your head when you flip up and down the helmet.
    So in conclusion, is it worth 2400CHF (in Switzerland)?? Obviously not.
    But do we have other options??
    Not that much…
    The kemppi gamma which i tested for a few weeks is way too large to work in tight places, not super solid and the visual quality isn’t good enough for me. The protection plates gets scratched super easily
    Like the lamps and the mask is a good bit cheaper spare parts too.
    Esab doesn’t have any flip ups with air filters.
    You can have a cheapo Chinese knockoff, but i wouldn’t trust it.
    So because they have no concurrents, they raise the prices… but 40 bucks for a protection plate is just a joke…

      I wholeheartedly agree there are not many other options.
      I will soon buy a Sundstrom filter pack and make an adapter to fit to my old Speedglas FX helmet.

    There are accessoires you can buy as an addon to prevent this. It is a welding mask, not a dust mask. It is not made for that kind of environments

      sorry to but in, not to step on any toes, but fumes are thinner than dust, what is to keep the fumes out if dust is blowing in?

    • @arjandegraaff
      @arjandegraaff Před rokem +1

      @@amely8393 you are normaly not surrounded by fumes, if so there are specialized filters for that. But if you work is that kind of an environment, dust or fumes you need to buy some extra addons that you van put on the msk to make it more dust proof like a full monk hood attachment. And put the blower at a higher volume so you have more overpressure in the mask.

      Not a bad lid, i have a non air version.
      Sundstrom will be my next unit, had one on trial for a month, night and day difference.

      @MJBEngineering I've only used the g50 air but it seals all around the head

    • @MJBEngineering
      @MJBEngineering  Před rokem

      Honestly, i couldn't tell you. I really like the sundstrom filter unit, but the mask leaves a lot to be desired. Ideal world would be a mask identical to the old speedglas fx with full face seal but with the sundstrom backpack.

    • @MJBEngineering
      @MJBEngineering  Před 2 lety +1

      I've not found a headtop with as good features as the 3m. The headtops are well thought out they just dont keep the fume out. The sundstrom helmet is not bad. Keeps all the fume and dust out.

    • @MJBEngineering
      @MJBEngineering  Před 2 lety +1

      @@andreashoferpartei not tried it but I've always seen optrel helmets as designed for workshop use, they had some issues with the adf smashing when dropped so no use to me on site. Meant to be very good for TIG.

      @@MJBEngineering I agree. The big knobs on the side could easily be smashed in an accident. I would also like to find out about the KEMPPI GAMMA GTH3 XFA/SFA. It weighs 1100g. Did you come across that one? Has got work lights and other fancy features but with the risk to brake the neck.

      @@andreashoferpartei again not tried it but I've heard it's not a bad system. Best bet I'd try to get a trial from your local rep or distributor. Give them a real world test.
