With the financial atmosphere you have shown the traditions of quilters making something out of what you have on hand. I picked up an unfinished quilt with a note in it, requesting to contact the person if I decided to finish the quilt. When I contacted the person was told the person who started the quilt is now in a nursing home and has forgotten most things of her life but she could still remember how to quilt. I offered to send the finished quilt to her family and she is thrilled. With all of this story I am finishing it in just the way you quilted your quilt. Quilts all have a story and a home. Thank you.
you are an angel, this is so beautiful, I'm screenshotting this for my "good things" folder for when life gets too much. thank you for sharing this ❤
You made me cry😢😢😢
You are an angel 😇 💛 💖 💓
What a sweet thing to do for the original quilter. I hope to do the same someday. Blessing sister quilter.
What a beautiful and kind thing to do. I'm sure you brought a tear to the original quilters eye ❤
I love the idea of a " good things" book ( or whatever). It is a part of counting your Blessings. Thank you for sharing.
I just love your no stress quilting tutorials.
The quilt is absolutely gorgeous! The quilting compliments the beautiful design, and the pieced backing looks pretty. The recipient is obviously very pleased😊
Love 💕! It’s so refreshing to see an uncomplicated quilt that’s not a repeat pattern (ugh) but still fun and inspiring. ! I love it 💕 Thank you Nikki
Nikki is one of the very best on CZcams. I’ve been watching her for quite a long time. Her tutorials are by far the most enjoyable and relaxing. Take time to browse all her videos, as her projects are all great and very easy to follow.
Thank you so much 🤗
I love how pragmatic you are about the whole process. I'd almost given up quilting because of how complicated some channels make it out to be, and all the 'must have' tools they show.
Which is crazy because quilting began as a “make do” kind of thing!
I feel that way too! All those specially things your made to feel like you must have before you can quilt, it kinda ruins it. I try to remember that once upon a time quilts were purposefull/utilitarian and may I add BEAUTIFUL before any of these fancy quilt things were invented, a time when quilting was nessecity not a "hobby" for more financially privileged individuals. If you want to quilt do it! You don't need all the best things money can buy. There are a lot of groups online where people love to help new sewists and who also love to get rid of fabric scraps! 😊 Also thrifting is a good way to not only help you get to quilting for the cheap but to help our environment. I have found some awesome rulers at garage sales for super cheap.
The quilt is wonderful! Front and back 😊. I feel much more confident in machine quilting. Thank you.
I personally prefer straight line quilting to the more decorative designs. Knowing that I can possibly do that myself makes me very happy.
Thank you so much for this tutorial Niki, it was very helpful for me to actually watch you demonstrate machine quilting at home. Surprisingly, the most helpful part for me was when you explained what the seam guide was and how to use it! When I purchased my machine, I also purchased the walking foot and there was a seam guide in the box as well, but it wasn't identified or explained in the instructions, so I had no idea what it was. In fact, you're the only one I've ever seen using it, and I'm so glad you did! And I'm so glad I didn't throw it out! 😊
By the way, your daughter's quilt is beautiful! 🎉
My machine came with the walking foot, but not that seam guide. That would have been nice to have. I mark all my lines with a frixion pen, it's tedious and annoying to draw all those lines!
Just something I learned that makes rolling your quilt easier is use a dollar store pool noodle to roll up the sides of your quilt 😉
Using quilting gloves was a life saver for me. They’re grippy in just the right way
Her quilt just quietly says ILY!
Thank you for such helpful tips & teaching. 😊
I just want to say "bravo". I appreciate how you pieced the backing, I have done that purposefully, it looks cute! Double quilt! . Also, what is even more amazing is that you use second-hand sheets for your backing. I thought I was the only one who did that! It's so cool that you have done that, too! I prefer to use sheets that I find at thrift stores for a few reasons...#1 it's WAY CHEAPER! I do make sure, of course, the sheet is 100% cotton and in good condition. I want it to last. I don't have a lot of money, and I really want to be less wasteful, so reusing and re-purposing is an awesome practice. Isn't that the point of a quilt to begin with. A useful item is made with what you have. The quilt I just finished, I actually used an old faux quilt blanket form probably to late 70s as batting. It was tatered worn fabric that was fake patch work with batting between the fabric layers. It was a blanket I always loved and was very worn out. I filled holes with scrap batting. Then my backing was a 100% cotton sheet I got at a thrift store, I will say the sheet was that nice cotton sateen, so very smooth and I found it to be a bit of a pain, so go for more crisp cotton sheets if you can find them. Thank you for sharing your quilting experience.
Great video! My creative flow has sputtered for a while now, but I find your relaxed approach inspiring. The quilt is amazing. Your daughters delight was precious. Thanks.
What a beauty of a quilt!! This is an heirloom your daughter is going to be so happy with. Thanks for the machine quilting tutorial. I've been making quilts for a long time and have never machine quilted a big quilt. I've either hand quilted it, (I love hand quilting), made a QAYG quilt (which I enjoy doing), or sent it to a longarm quilter. I have an older machine that doesn't have a lot of room but you make it look and sound so easy. I'll have to try it sometime.
You make quilting look so easy. Both your quilts are beauties. ❤
Love the quilt and how you used left over fabric pieced together for the backing. Your quilt reminds me of my grandmother’s quilts; comfy cozy. I’m glad you have lots of ideas for sewing projects because I’ll be here waiting. lol
❤
I absolutely love how you explain things. As a complete beginner, you make it so easy to understand what you are talking about. I already figured out my machine's walking foot, but your explanation would have been so very nice when I was figuring it out.
Nikki, that is a beautiful quilt, and it looks like your daughter is delighted with it. ❤. Your videos have helped me to lighten up and ENJOY quilting again! (I Franken-batt frequently..) Congratulations on 100k! Looking forward to more seeing/quilting adventures with you!
Thank you!!! My queen quilt has been pin based for 5 years. Still have not bought an extension table for my machine. Going to use my walking foot and get it done.
I do many of the tips you provided…but you provided so many more great ones! Thank you! Your quilt is so lovely; I know your daughter will cherish it! ❤️
I appreciate your tutorials SO MUCH!!!! I've sewn my whole life, but just started quilting a year ago. It has taken me a year to make 10 quilt tops for my grandchildren. I'm finally ready to sandwich and quilt them and your tutorials on both are just EXACTLY what I needed!! Ive watched so many tutorials on CZcams, trying to learn what I need to do, but yours are by far, the best!! (Excited I can sandwich without pool noodles, haha.) And I was so nervous about machine quilting until I watched your video. I feel like I really can do it now. Thank you so very much Nikki!! And I absolutely LOVE this quilt! 😊❤
Yes, you can do it! 😁
As usual, a wonderful work of art! I use quilting gloves when I quilt on my domestic machine. It makes it so much less exhausting.
Yes! I always use those when free motioning especially
I never knew what that contraption was (quilting guide) for my walking foot!! Loved this tutorial!! Thank you so MUCH! Nikki
Beautiful quilt for a beautiful daughter! I love how time stands still in your sewing room when you're doing what you love!!
Your quilt is gorgeous.
I have quilted all but one of my quilts with my own sewing machine. I enjoy the process of making my quilts from start to finish. Painters tape works great to establish straight lines.
Beautiful!! Based on your clock on the shelf, time stands still while you quilt :)
😂 It needs a battery
Absolutely love this quilt! Great job teaching us how. Thank you.
It's absolutely lovely! You're a true artisan and I greatly admire your skill. That will be a quilt she cherishes for the rest of her life. Nicely done!
I love the tap method. I freaks me out to mark on my quilt. I am what i call an organic quilter. I can't be bothered with measuring. I just go for it. 😂
You are amazing and so is your quilting talent, thanks for sharing!!
I’ve always started in the middle. It’s nice to see that it doesn’t matter! I love how you do whatever you want. I just need to take that leap!
Excellent tutorial with thoughtful explanations. I quilt on my 'regular' machine and frequently piece backings & battings. I like being up close and personal with my quilts as I finish them. Sometimes I roll them like this, sometimes I 'fluff & stuff, sometimes I free motion, but I always quilt them myself.
Such a great quilt! I love the diamond shape.
Infinalky broke down and bought a walking food. I love it!!
The quilt is gorgeous!
You are my kind of quilter! It’s so reassuring to see you quilt on a home machine, because it’s techniques that I intuitively used when I faced the “horror” of actual quilting. It has put me off a bit but now I feel that I am ok doing what I do because you do it too! Subscribed ❤.
I love your quilt. It is beautiful. And I admire your bravery to tackle these jobs and make them work into something truly unique. Please keep sharing.
Brilliant - love this quilt, and making use of what you have, exactly what quilting is all about. Totally agree re walking foot, it's a game changer.
I love your teaching style. You make it seem possible for us that are new to sewing. Thank you.
I am just starting to go back to quilting ....I attended a basic quilting class in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2003. The first project was a lap quilt and hand-pieced and hand quilted. Now, watching this video makea me feel confident to do machine quilting. Thank you for sharing this video.
Thank you so much Nikki, I really really enjoyed watching you create this beautiful and unique quilting for this unique and wonderful quilt which is absolutely stunningly gorgeous and beautifully crafted too. I absolutely love ❤❤❤❤❤ it too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
I just love 😍 all your quilts!!! It’s just works of art! Beautiful!
Nice quilting design for a complicated design!
The quilt is beautiful!
This is just great! Thank you so much for this tutorial - I’m just about ready to quilt my first quilt. You have helped me so much, thank God for sewest like you. (Greensboro, NC)
This quilt is so beautiful. Great job, wonderful video.
That quilt is beautiful well done
Nikki you are awesome! Luv all you do!! I was looking for cow fabric at Joanns so I could put “ one in the road’ if I ever make a wonky house quilt😁 but first downloaded the “Birds of a Feather” instructions and had to pick up some solid colored fat quarters!! Sooo loved ur quilt on the couch in your living room!! And after watching this video I’m thinking I’ll be able to machine quilt it YAY!! Luv u girl mucho!! 💕
I love the practicalities of you videos. Thankyou.
The quilt turned out so lovely!
I enjoy the simplicity of your quilting style. I too do my own quilting on my machine, I like using different fabrics for backing it makes for an interesting back..sometimes I prefer it to the front ;)
What an awesome, happy quilt! You really break down the steps and make them easier. thank you so much
3:09 The thread brand you mentioned has "gone off" a bit. I mentioned the issues I was having with a sewing instructor person in a dedicated sewing goods store, and she said a lot of people, with newer/more recent models of domestic sewing machines, were having issues with tension and shredding of that brand (a different company had taken over the brand). So I bought a different brand of thread for my totally new sewing machine, and stopped having tension and shredding of thread issues. Just FYI. Thank you for the important info re. the walking foot especially.
Gorgeous quilt
Really pretty! Me too… sheets from thrift store!… and pieced backing! Love this quilt.. love your videos!❤
What a fun whimsical quilt!
My first machine was a very small Janome 525s, I managed to quilt a single sized duvet on it and I reckon I could get a double under there.
My tip is to get some of those trouser clips designed for cyclists, you can roll up one side and pop them over to hold it in a tight roll which means you can squeeze more under there.
Great idea 🙌🏻
Your quilt is absolutely amazing. I love it. You’ve given me the inspiration I needed to take a chance and machine quilt. I appreciate the videos. Thank you.
Watching you quilt is the best !
Good job. What a beautiful quilt. TFS
Such a sweet quilt that your daughter will forever cherish! I've been learning many new and helpful techniques from your videos---thank you for your fresh approach to the art of quilting!
Hello Nikki, Thank You for this video. I have a domestic sewing machine a juki HZL-LB5100. And it's an ok throat space, but not really big enough for quilting quilts. It's 7" wide by 5.5" tall throat size. So After watching this video, my problems were solved. I now can use this method I'm sure to quilt my quilts.
Looking forward to seeing your next video, to see what else you have to share. And teach me.
Ive been busy quilting a large quilt… and I did it on the dining room table. Using gravity as the quilt comes off the back of the table is brilliant.
Great instructions. I normally do quilt-as-you-go style because of my small space. I have a few large quilts that are waiting to be quilted but I felt stuck. Thanks for the answer to finishing these items.
Nikki you have such good posture! I think your grandma would be proud of😂 ❤❤
Haha!
Beautiful ❤
You give me hope that I can make a quilt! I enjoy your videos!
You can do it!
THIS is what I have been looking for! My thanks to you for explaining and showing how to machine quilt. Now I have a reference and a guide! Finally 😊
Thank you so much Nikki for this tutorial. It’s the first easy to follow instruction I have found as a beginner. I will subscribe since great minds think alike. I love Quilting but it doesn’t need to break the bank. Love that quilt pattern too! ❤
Congratulations on 100,000.00 subs. Adorable quilt.
Thank you!!! 😁😁😁
Beautiful quilt. Great tutorial!
You are so incredibly inspiring!!!
I've quilted 20+ twin or larger quilts on my home machine *without* a walking foot. It can be done!! But lots of good tips in this video, thanks!
I really love that quilt! ❤ I am sitting here hand binding my latest quilt while watching this video! You and I have the same exact sewing machine (I LOVE this machine!!). Next to the extension table, the walking foot is without a doubt the best accessory I have purchased for my machine. Using that walking foot gives me so much confidence when I quilt on my machine.
I would definitely like to get the extension table at some point! Maybe I’ll put it on my Christmas list.
@@PinCutSew You should! You will love it! Even so, this is a GREAT machine, with or without the extension table. In fact, watching your review video of your machine is what inspired me to get my own. Janome should give you a sponsorship! ❤️
@@PinCutSew I agree wutg the comment below. Janome should definitely sponsor you!
Looks wonderful!! ❤
It’s adorable! ❤ and I love the diamond shaped quilting!
❤ lovely quilt and thank you for sharing xxx
A gorgeous quilt!
Beautiful quilt!
When you finished the first set of diagonals I thought it looked great. Then when you did opposite and created the diamonds..wow!!! Beautiful pattern also. Thanks so much for all the tips.
It's beautiful
You are awesome! Great job. I love your quilting style.
Great video. Well explained and demonstrated. Straight-line machine quilting can be quite relaxing. Basically, my method is the same as yours other than I thread baste instead of pins. I have a smaller domestic, use a walking foot and roll up the sides. I hold the quilt by its rolled sides as well. The feed dogs do all the work.
Thank you! All of this info is helpful as I am into number 1 on 3 quilts on my plate right now😊
It’s so beautiful!!
Thank you!!!! You are encouraging!!! ❤❤
Love this quilt! ❤
This turned out so lovely!!!
First of all I really like the quilt you are working on and thanks for showing how to use our regular sewing machine to quilt 😊
The quilt is LOVELY! I quilt on a domestic maachine but never did triangles because I didn't know how to make the lines correctly. Thanks for all the tips ❤
I have the same table you have!!! It’s so versatile! Can crank it to different heights. Got mine at Home Depot.
As a quilter who has learned entirely from videos, I treasure good lessons like this. I wanted to ask what model your sewing machine is, please. Thanks again.
Hi! It’s a Janome MC6650 and she’s a gem, highly recommend.
@@PinCutSew Thanks much!
Love it... I also quilt on my small machine ❤
This quilt screams 'love'. Thank you so much. I would love to know where you get that tape.
It’s just Scotch brand from Amazon 👍🏻
I love this! Thank you so much for this video! I’m learning how to quilt using my super simple Singer sewing machine and wishing I had a better machine, but you are encouraging me to just keep on quilting. I love the diagonal crisscross pattern!
So pretty
Nice video! I struggle with the quilting part. I usually do very minimal quilting with very big grid lines even on small quilts. TFS
Great great video….you have inspired me to continue on my journey of quilting on my domestic machine! Thank you for sharing!
Great tutorial. I love how calm and patient you are. It makes me feel I can do this. Thank you!
