this is great. I hope people do more studies on beaver-human cohabitation in the stone ages.

A very interesting video, really enjoyed it, As an ex-professional beaver trapper in the Southeast (Georgia) in environments that are fire dependent I have noticed the same impact on riparian areas. I no longer trap beavers simply because I have no legal means to live trap them for relocation, which is illegal in GA along with most other states. I do, however, advocate to land owners to keep them if they are not doing economic damage to either farm land, timber land or pond dams. I do know their return down here in the early 70s had a drastic positive impact on our wood duck population. I have also noticed a positive impact on ephemeral branches often turning them into permanent streams down branch from the beaver dams. I wish the feds would start a program on BLM lands out west that often have degraded riparian zones and extreme bank erosion. I recently re-read the journals of Lewis and Clark paying close attention to the beaver sightings and observation of their habitat. One of the interesting observations was the dispersal of willow from beaver ponds downstream onto sandbars and fingers through willow cuttings carried downstream by the current. The observations of the large numbers on the prairies and the wetlands noted by Lewis and Clark also peaked my curiosity about using them for prairie restoration. Another aspect that has been studies lately is their impact on salmon and trout....apparently, contrary to the thoughts of many, salmon and trout populations largely benefit from beaver with Chinook and Coho salmon smolt survival and growth rates being greatly increased in beaver ponds. As an almost rabid beaver advocate now, I read every study I can find on them and surprised at the "discoveries" being made that should be common sense if you are familiar with beavers. Salmon, trout, and most other stream loving fish evolved with beaver dams and eons ago learned to use them.

I already know the value of beavers. What time in the video do you explain the change. BTW, it’s Smoky, not Smokey.
