Very clever!!!! Thanks! just saw another video on this. however i like how you anchored the hot pipe and was able to pry the old fitting.
It was a fun experiment and a good option if for some reason a new fitting is not available.
Damn good trick and well demonstrated. That woman knows her stuff!
I f up big time and glued a couple of pvc pipes. And Home Depot is know where near me to replace the pipes. I just wanna thank you for that idea it was quick and easy I'll be sure to pay it forward
You are welcome. Good job on finding a solution to saving the fitting.
Nice! Finally a good non toxic method
Hey Ms. Know How Now - Your varied skills continue to amaze - Thank you for taking the time and effort to produce this excellent, easy to follow, video tutorial on the removal of a glued pvc pipe/fitting connection from each other - many times the project was interrupted to stop and go to Lowe's to get a part - next time, I'm trying the Know How Now way.
Thank you for taking the time to write the kind words. I do my best to post high quality videos on the channel.
Pretty slick indeed. This sure would help on a Sunday evening when everything is closed and you desperately need this fixed. It never fails when all goes bad and you turn to the wife and say, I'll be right back hon, I'm gonna run to Ace and get this part. Her response is that sly smile and says really dear, at this time of night on a Sunday, arrrrgggg. Thanks for posting this really great video. ...The old guy (80) from Marina CA
Great to hear you liked the video. That was my thought the store is closed or it's an hour drive away and you need the fitting now.
I absolutely love & adore a woman who has the brain cells to be able to see & figure out things for herself... I think that's Great, and I respect you for it. This the first video of yours that I've watched, and I've just subscribed and "liked" the video.... will be watching whatever else I find on your channel. God Bless and protect you in the coming months ahead (2023/2024), and always.
Welcome to Know How Now. Thank you for subscribing and taking the time to comment. I find it interesting to understand how things work and I like to learn. So far it's been fun making the videos, helping and hearing from people who watch the videos.
Very nicely done video. What surprises me though, is I've always thought that the PVC cement was a solvent type that melts the PVC, and this is called "welding" the plastic together (not in the torch or electric welding sense, but because the joint is the material itself, 'melted' into each other).
So if the pipes are melted into each other, I'd think it would not separate cleanly at the joint. Kind of like wood glue often separates at the wood fibers. Well, obviously not, so I guess the 'weld' really isn't that great of a weld, but sufficient for the purpose.
Your video was extremely helpful and saved me 100s of dollars and time. THANK YOU!
You are welcome, David. It's my pleasure to help.
What a smart person you are.
Good technique
I used a torch on the inside of 4" pipe that I wanted to save. Worked great!
Very Cool. I glued my two 45 deg. 4" sewer fittings in place and I was off by 2" to sign up with the toilet flange.

Very clever. I'll try it out tomorrow. Will save me some inconvenience. Thank you.
You are welcome.
Tried it out of necessity. It worked. Thank you. Wach out for deforming outer PVC pipe through extra heating.
You are welcome. Thanks for the warning about too much heat and potential damage.
excellent video
Just did this technique because of this video and saved me tons of money. Thank you

QUESTION: What if I have a coupler that I have to get off of a pipe I want to save?
I like it thank you
You are welcome, Ruben.
Amazing
Thanks for watching the videos.
right
Thanks! But why not just plug one end and fill the coupling up with boiling water?
Just curious. I've never tried it.
A propane torch is over 3000 deg F. I never tried boiling water, it might not be hot enough.
Great to know. Question: Are you currently seeing anyone?
Can you get the same results from abs pipe?
I've never tried it.
Your getting a thumbs up from a plumber doing it for 46 years....When I started we didn't have plastic pipe.
It's a honor, thanks Barry. Hats off to our trades people.
Yes we need to lift them up to a high standard....
👍😊
Does it work with abs?
I've never tried it with abs, Angelo. Sorry I don't know the answer to your question.
👍👍
Thanks nice video. My advice is to use gloves when heating something to cherry red. I learned the hard way.🥴
You are welcome, John. Agreed, wearing gloves is a good idea.
Sounds like see Jane drill.
If it's a dedicated heating tool you're making that won't be for just a one time use, you could try closing off the inside end by welding a disc to it to allow using a heat gun for a more controlled heating process. Then it doesn't have to be heated to the cherry red level with a torch and causing the PVC to fume.
If the tool holds water after welding, it should be able to prevent the heated air from passing through to the unneeded areas.
You sound like Franz.......the electronics lady from another channel?
Man this is the HARD WAY. Just squirt some acetone on the joint and wait minute or two. Then twist and pull the fitting right off.
Hi Dan, Loctite says that acetone won't work on fully dried glue. I've never tried acetone, so I can't say if it works. Any thoughts on Loctite's advice? www.loctite-consumer.co.uk/en/how-to-guide/home-repairs/how-to-remove-pvc-glue-diy-essentials.html
Use safety gloves
I don't see any glue only primer
Thanks for commenting Patrick and your curiosity of not seeing any glue. The glue is clear, so you can't see it. It really does work, try it. There are commercially made devices that do the same thing. Evidently, in some cases it is cost effective to perform this type of procedure.
Patrick Johnson believe it or not the primer is responsible for the bond (gluing). The "glue" is actually more of a gap sealant. While I wouldn't advise anyone to do so, you can glue pvc with primer alone.
@@Soknik01 my pool pump plumbing was put together with primer only & here we are 11 years later...replacing the pump & doing the new piping with primer again
@@floridagirl386 That's awesome! The best part about using primer alone is that primer has a fantastic shelf life whereas the glue (once opened) always seems to turn to stringy crap after sitting for 6 months.
@@Soknik01 what was this reply to? A deleted comment?
Aye but can you cook haha like it
Yes, I can cook! lol!
It's settled then I want to marry you haha
I've had two other proposals.... lol!
"As rare as hen's teeth...."
Hey like how you talk . We're you from
Southeastern Pennsylvania, some people identify the accent with Philadelphia, though I live about 50 miles from the city.
don't poke your eye out.
lol!
Wow! That was the “easiest “ looking video I have seen with the goal of separating to reuse the fitting and pipe. Ps lol to “rare as hens teeth…”haha
How does a twelve-year-old know so much about plumbing??
Because I'm not 12!
