Donald Hoffman - Fusing agents and qualia: a formal solution to the combination problem

  • The theory of conscious agents (Hoffman & Prakash, 2014; Fields et al., 2017) is a formal theory of subjects and experiences prior to spacetime and physical objects. Spacetime is one of countless forms of interfaces by which agents interact. Their interactions are Markovian and form new, more complex, structures that satisfy the definition of conscious agent. Thus new agents arise by dynamical interaction. The Markovian kernels describing the dynamics of new agents drop rank in the asymptotic limit of the dynamics. This drop in rank signals the fusion of subjects and qualia. When n conscious agents interact, the set of possible fusions forms an n-1 simplex: the fusion simplex. The dynamical process by which fusion occurs is described by decorated permutations. These permutations index cells of the positive Grassmannian Gr(k,n). A linear transform takes Gr(k,n) to the amplituhedron, giving amplitudes for spacetime scattering processes. Conscious agent interactions are ontologically primary, and scattering processes in spacetime are interface descriptions.

    The amplitudehedron reminds me of the entities Reason and Rhyme who were geometric entities that lived in a geometriculticolored castle in the air, and were capable of repairing space time reality in the movie the phantom tool booth

    Consciousness links consciousness experience with observable sensory signals.
    Exact terminology mapping of observable sensory signals is agreed via communication (speech, writing and etc) and process of building consensus reality model.
    You use consciousness and consciousness experience interchangeably in this presentation, would be nice to have a definition of your understanding of the term 'as of now' together with qualia.
    Same applies to qualia agent, qualia kernel.
    At 12:50 you are saying that amplituhedron volume from non space-time object represented as 4D object gives probability.
    What units of measurements of all of this, how volume can get into probability.
    At 21:33 you are saying that 2 goes to 1 via black and it is 4 for permutation.
    But mod 1 = 3 in modular arithmetics on base 3 used or am I missing something?
    At 22:26 you are saying 'from there it turns out there is canonical way of associating a differential form and you get the amplitudes'
    Can you explain this 'it turns out', I don't follow this.
