Thompson Twins performing Watching from the album Quick Step and Side Kick, on an unknown TV programme. Must be around 1983. If anyone remembers the TV programme, I'd love to know!
@mtsn Yes thats me in the back at the very beginning and also Boris Williams on drums. Andrew Bodnar on bass, an amazing player. This was a TV show called The Switch, it was my first TV appearance and also on the same show Sade. She was so excited she was crying and phoned her Mum. it was the Summer of 1983

This was the one that did it for me - massive fan after hearing this - clearly the best song of 1983. I even had 3 earrings in my left ear and a false ponytail - my mum wouldn't let me shave my hair like Alannah!!!!! Aaahh the good old days!!!!!!
These folks were great. At a time when MTV just started out. They wrote some great music. Forgot this song. She is awesome. The writing is so ahead of their time
This is an incredible performance! WOW! I love this song! I often wondered if it was a single. TT is still weird! Much cooler and weirder than modern stuff. Thanks for posting!!!!
I played my LP tonight and remembered this most excellent song. And searching on here found this. Fantastic stuff! @binker1: Thanks for the upload and in such great quality too. And you’re right, the bass player is very good. The bass line makes the song (apart from the keyboards that is :).
I think a full frame version of this video could be used as an official video for this song (with it being with the audio...recorded over it and in sync too). The original video was pretty well made (in full frame, of course).
Back when I bought this on CD, the only place I could find it was a Japanese CD. So, of course it came with lyrics as the Japanese thought they heard them. Which led to a LOT of funny misheard lyrics. Like this one... only those whacky Japanese could hear _"Dinosaurs are grazing in suburbia"_ and hear it as *_"A timeless source of grace in suburbia"._* I kid you not. That's what they put in the CD insert for lyrics. And in a sense, it's wonderfully appropos for the Japanese with their long history and culture of arts and Buddhism.
I am a huge fan of the Thompson Twins but disliked this for years - now I realise how good it is. I am very surprised no one has sampled this song. It has some great elements in it. It was good to hear Click Five's version of "Lies" - they did a good job.
One of their best songs! By the way, according to Homer Simpson, Xylophone's are the Music of "SKELETONS!" I believe he's right! Skeleton is derived from the latin word for "Dried up".
I wasn't a fan back then, most of their songs sounded a bit trite and predictable, but this track is unbelievable, it's still fresh as when it came out. Leeway had an incredible voice, I love the bits in falsetto.
Anyone realize this is a New Jack Swing rhythm years before New Jack Swing took over. The groove in this song is pretty far out and unique for synthpop.
I find this video and the song pure torture. I'm not surprised Tom Bailey is wearing shades; he doesn't want anyone to recognise him. His two pals are creepy.

Great work true legendary man band never forgot about ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love the bass line on this track...

Andrew sounds a like like Pino Paladino , love his style.
Fellow You Tubers, listen to that bass! Homeboy is killing it. 80’s teenager here. Who’s listening in 2021? Rock in Peace Edward Van Halen! 😔🎸☝🏽
Great bass player.
Boris is spot on, his timing, floor bass drum is sick. Solid start to finish. No beat or fill is missed.

Loved them when I was little!
Excellent stuff - Joe and Alannah are obviously having a great time! And nice to see two future members of The Cure in the backing band!

I had the pleasure of seeing them perform this song live in 1983 and meeting them backstage after the concert. Allanah was so sweet. Great memories.
This is an incredible performance! WOW!
I love this song! I often wondered if it was a single.

Thanks for posting!!!!
Always loved this song. On the album, the female voice is Grace Jones.
Boris is the N°1 in my Top 5 drummers.
Of course you know that a few years later Boris joined the Cure
This was the one that did it for me - summer of '83 - best thing I'd heard in ages!! I love the Twins still - even when they became Babble!!
One of the best videos ever by a fantastic band.

Probably not their most famous song, but definitely my favourite, and one of their best (in my opinion). Thanks for posting.
You are very lucky ! What a great experience on which to look back !

The TT were my introduction to synth pop which i still love to this day. I was also in the TT fan club!
Saw them in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1984! Amazing show. the percussion was the best!
For sure Tom is mega ripped behind those sunglasses lol
It's a great tune...one of my favourite TT songs!

Om Shanti!
i'm watching this for boris williams. i think that he's an underrated drummer
Me too! Boris is the best!
Dario Wirtha absolutely correct!
Your correct..... he was solid
Jesus Christ I could have predicted a comment from fucking RiCHUDo.
Boris from the cure..... Hell yeah.
Excellent quality!
One of my fave. songs from them!
This was my favorite song from their "Side Kicks" LP.
@RogerODonnellTV YES! the switch...thanks for clarifying...i couldn't remember...hope it brought back some memories...
I still have the 12 inch EP of this song I bought in 1983 at Licorice Pizza.
+Gary Campbell Cool!!! did they have Licorice Pizza in places other than Chula Vista?
@@DoDemBeats Yep, there was one in PASADENA, CA.
Excelente thompson twins
Another great song by Thompson Twins!
Amazing tight bass on this track
Saw em El Cortez Hotel San Diego circa 1982.
I always thought Alannah always looked like a female Martin Gore
skintrade Lol I never thought of that, but yeah I can see it. Or maybe Martin was a male looking Alannah? Lol
❤️❤️❤️
it looks like it might be Top Of The Pops
I like your gloves.

IT'S A SONG ABOUT DISCO'S,THAT'S WHAT WAS GOING ON,WATCHING PEOPLE,YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO TALK,MUSIC BLARING ALL NIGHT,WE ALL EXPERIENCED THIS SADNESS
A very tight loud sound
Bring it
You did alright out of though Roger...you and Boris got to join The Cure!
Look Left Look Right
*looks left*
*looks right*
Is it Roger O'Donnell back there?
Boris is the best drummer
Laszlo Hencsei
Igen,ő az

show looks like the Oxford Road Show, I could be wrong tho..
But who is watching the watchers?
I always thought they were HO Chi Mien. 🙃🙃🙃
i think of tufty...the road savvy squirrel
But who is watching watching the watchers?

They look high.
Tom Bailey, at the very least, claims to have never done drugs. They're probably high off of their own sound.
I find this video and the song pure torture. I'm not surprised Tom Bailey is wearing shades; he doesn't want anyone to recognise him. His two pals are creepy.
its repetitive but some what good
