Recently I purchased the XBOX 360 S and needed to reset my old XBOX 360 back to factory so I could sell it. I couldn't find a decent video showing how easy it really is and so here is a video to show all of you how to do it. Check it out and let me know if it helped you.

yes, but it is easier to go into your memory settings and delete what you don't need. Be careful not to delete any saved game information unless you don't mind losing your saves.
Legend, dusting the 360 off after a few years to play some new games and wanted to start a fresh. Great help man!

You have to remove the parental controls first. If you don't know the passcode you will need to call Microsoft support.
Just as a matter of clarification, this does NOT reset it to Factory Default settings, this only erases all of the data. If you need to get rid of content controls (e.g., can't play certain games), following the steps in this video will NOT remove them. I bought a used Xbox that had content controls on it, and in order to remove them I had to contact Xbox Customer Support because they need to give you a code and walk you through that resets your 360 to its true factory default (where when it starts up again you have to select Language, time zone, etc.)
This does reset the Xbox to Factory Default per Microsoft. This was made following the instructions provided by them. Content controls are completely different. If content control is enabled, this reset will not work until you disable the content controls.
It resets the xbox 360 to factory defaults which is the same as wiping the hard drive. You cannot go back to the dashboard that you may have received when you bought your xbox 360.
beck the save games onto a memory stick. You can use any USB memory stick as long as it has enough storage on it.

That's me
it will include your gamer tag and achievements, but nothing else unless you saved the game to the cloud.
It will delete your profile from the Xbox, but not your membership or profile. The actual profile is stored by Microsoft. So if you reset it, you then sign in with your username and password and then you will have it back. This reset will not delete a password that is set on the Xbox.
you would need to call Microsoft for that one.

yes, it deletes your account from the xbox and all save games, etc. Your account will remain though. If you want to cancel the account altogether you would have to do that at the xbox website.
Thanks for the help, bought a mint condition Xbox at a yard sale, so this helped wipe clean inside the previous owners digital stuff. I'm late to the xbox party but having fun catching up with it all.
Mine doesn't do that. Whenever I click format it says "the systems memory unit has been removed. Xbox will now restart" idk what I did wrong.

As long as you first remove the parental password it is. These are per Microsoft.

you don't have to remove it, just go to the xbox website and reset it there.

you mean achievements? Those are attached to your xbox gamer profile and don't need transfer. Just sign in on a new machine and you will have them all.
