- Is traveling broke and hungry the new virus? Just as the original hobos of the early 20th century were scorned by the mainstream of society, so too are today's train riders. Over a year of traveling, the young train riders in Freeload seek adventure and answers on America's freight trains. Freeload is a dive into a beggars existence, it is a ride through America's backyard, it is a sociological examination of the ignored. The allure of the road is infectious. One never forgets the freedom once felt.

I've traveled mainly by hitchhiking and trainhopping off and on for 13 years....these kids are a good example of who I AVOID when I'm out there. They don't seem like bad people, but I don't think I could stand to be around them for more than 10 minutes. Just not the kind of traveler I am. I prouldy work hard and wander. I want to be far away from American society, but I always do my best to be respectful to locals and be good to the places I visit. Unless you're geniunely disabled, there is ALWAYS some kind of job that needs to be done or an honest hustle you can pick up that will allow you to take care of yourself. Especially in the U.S. These are the ones who give us a bad name. But I do hope they're doing OK these days, none of them seem like bad folks
I couldnt agree more. I like to lay low. I feel like flying a sign is a last resort. I like to work and make my money stretch by travelling cheap freight trains and hitch hiking. Ive only ever travelled solo, but would like to travel with someone I can trust. What most people spend on a weekend, I can see the country for a month or 2. There are some sacrifices, but theres nothing like it. My biggest concern is WHO I will run into. That has always been my biggest concern. Riding the train is the easiest part, everything in between is raw as fuck
agreed not bad but surely there's more to it than this and there is@@realrocksrhyming8910
I get what you're saying. The guy does what he does but he has a dog and a girlfriend, so he isn't hopeless. Maybe just a bit too young to get it.
Edit: I watched through the whole thing and i agree. Some people can't see the forest from the trees. It's easy being bad, but it's a hell of a lot harder being good and bad.
Real inspirational
This should have so many more views, it’s such an awesome documentary, that I keep coming back to.
This is excellent, we have nothing like this in the UK sadly BUT my "Soul" cries out for this kind of thing.
The old Hobo's are an obsession for me, You Can't Win by Jack Black is one of the best books I've ever read.
Travel Safe folks, maybe see you down the road one day.
Kenneth allsop hard travelling is another good book, nearest thing to this in the uk is wildcamping so i do that ☺️🤘🏻
This documentary is so fkin cool, an insight into a world and culture 99% of us will never see or do firsthand.
I first came across it on a different channel, and loved it straight away !
Saved it to a playlist, and have probably watched it on at least10 occasions in just a few months.
And glad to see that Dice got his dog back, 🐶 🐕 quality viewing, note to aannyyyone .. this is so worth while to chill and watch.
Solid 10/10. No jk. 😎 👌
❤
These guys are cool but an 18 year old saying he's been doing something "forever" is abit ironic
Yep. It’s a wild time these modern times. Where kids have zero self awareness
Ive always had a huge part of me that wanted to live this this lifestyle. In retrospect, I had the perfect chance in 2019, Lots of money saved up, fired from shitty job, best friend looking for adventure. If only I could turn back the clock and bring him with me.
I must spend, at least a year, hopping trains and exploring with minimal resources.
i hope u do man
Chances are you will NEVER do anything simply because you are looking for approval/someone to hold your hand!!!! If you really wanted to do it you would just do it not want or wait for someone else! You have to do what you want for yourself.... That's how most of us have started out. I miss it from time to time however you move on and it becomes fond memories that no one can take from you.
@@one1onetime935 Lmao sure dude. I live my life entirely based on the approval of others mhm .. you figured me out. Dipshit. The reason I have not done this yet is simple because im having too much fun with my life right now. And i promise you its far from "seeking approval" from anyone.
I ended up raiding with a few younger Idiots. They were fucking around and one guy walked out the boxcar door not paying attention, Train was doing 70+ North Dakota. I do believe it was his last ride.
Wow what a bad ass documentary thanks for making it
Thank you King of Docs.
This is an awesome documentary about traveling the rail! Dank 😎
Boy what a difference from the hobos of the 80’s. Watch a doc from that time and it’s all them being smart using services in different states , talking about the state of the country , something truly has changed and it has to be because of the internet and phones. And I don’t see it ever getting fixed.
These guys seem ok to me. Kind of modern adventurers, cowboys. Could be far worse. They could be clean cut Stanford graduates looking to fleece the working folk. Lotta issues, excuses and chips on their shoulders but thats everybody and they’re young. At least they aren’t staring at their phones like zombies (yet). They are feral and that scares good family people but I think pilgrims are on a journey of discovery and that’s important too.
Inspiring
i love the hellhammer and darkthrone shirts! these guys have great taste in music
When you know everything because you know nothing, that's the Dunning Kruger effect.
I own this on DVD !!
Nice
I watched 58 seconds and I’ve seen dude ride a gondola loaded with ties, if the train kicks could kill him and his dog, or at least maim them, and hang is legs off a ride going at speed.
Both huge fuck ups in the train hopping world.
Been doing this shit 20 years and I’m 35, and the amount of stupidity I saw in 58 seconds astounds me. I’ll watch the rest, though.
Lies you watched a couple CZcams videos and now you're some expert 😂
@@one1onetime935 honestly I like your joke, but I’ve been riding freight for nearly 20 years, I feel as if I’ve been around long enough to talk a little shit on internet strangers making my world apparent to the rest of the world.
Well, it's kind of like working in the factory or any dangerous job doing construction or whatever roofing... There's always those guys that you gotta be careful of because they'll get you killed too.
Kid had a Ambix jacket patch that's awesome hiked all of the big three listening to to Ambix it fits when your out there
Hell Yea! The Horny Hobo was here. toot toot🚂 What a rush. Thank You for this awesome video.

They limit respect when one does not respect themselves and leave pizza stains on their resume.
I've always been enamored with the hobo lifestyle, the train hopping, the urban exploration,... there's a romanticism to it.
All the movies, doco's and books have colourful characters that possess their own brand of honour and esteem. - This is the first documentary i've seen where every character seems detestable and utterly unlikable. (the girls were ok)
From the idiot brothers who pretend they like metal but are actually gross crust punks, to the shitty addicts and other miscreants.
This isn't a documentary about travelers, its a sad indictment on the mental ill endlessly running from themselves.
britt Iowa has a hobo convention every year the first week of august if you want to learn more....my dad wrote a poem called the hobos prayer, they have a copy at the hobo museum in britt.
I'd love to know where these guys are now
Why are these kids so angry and entitled. Why do they think random people driving by owe them their bank account. These kids make real hobos look bad.
We call them shwilly kids. Or dirty kids. Yes avoid them. They are usually drunk and like to start drama and try to fight
Those poor dogs.
Their tails didn't wag much. That's what I noticed. At the mercy of their owners but I have the pay. Respect to the travelers that they always had a leash. And most people in the nice neighborhood don't have leashes on their pets. And they don't realize it's illegal.
These guys wait till the train stops to hop it?

Seriously people to avoid, I expect they do plenty of jail time.
Double hip implant,57,Ojibway..ride till death.
Is still a sheep following another sheep
It's the way they intentionally look scruggy. I've always looked at life. Whether I was poor in a dirty environment or in a super clean room. Environment of electronics detected from static electricity in the air with the ozone system and a lab coat. The point is to be an ninja and the chameleon in life. Not to put the plot of your story and resume on your skin and boot cover. But always leave a riddle or an assumption of what people want to believe not what you want to look like in force upon people who don't give a shit
Anyone know which of these kids lost his arm and leg?
How did you hear about that? I just found out about this story and it's just one of those kinds of stories. You gotta watch and find out where these people go for the rest of our life that we are alive.
Stinky gutter punks. Having New Orleans flashbacks.
Those garbage bags you're going through--they come from people with jobs, homes, and money. Can't live off what grows wild.
You won't be saying that in 10 years when it's a robot that did the work and that person you speak of right now will pass away or be forced to stay home over the future lockdowns, there will be more lockdowno. They got away with murder for 4 years so far. The statute of limitations is not up yet. There will be a rebel. That has to be that archie has been waiting since forever. 1913 18 ninety, which decade do we roll with? Where the people have been screwed over by a nation of debt. They put us in debt. We would be alright if they managed the money we gave them to be responsible. Of in the first place but we trusted these people. We trusted a lot of stuff and it was all narratives by storytellers. They never could say that they would put their life on it and they still won't..
Been to grandbury tx many times were pony boy cones from ; worked in a area as a millwright made good money there; there a Jessie James grace there too.
Millwrights. Good money yes. Overworked. Hell yes. The job aint the same as what I were grandfather's and father's head. We have to work more hours. Get less bonus, get no field trips. No company picnics no real parties anymore, no more barbecues. Log your biometric data into the hand reader. Download the application to the corporation. And now they come home with me every night and they can listen watch. Because we have to give them access just so we can punch in and collector fake paper. Check that we never see in our hands and goes straight to some bank number.
I made even better money being with p l c controls , robots, electrician and maintenance. But it's a lot more responsibility. It's always a trouble morab troubles because everything is electrical.
oogles
I guess, old video, Dead or in jail, OR figured it out and started making a life.
Pretty disappointing, I would highly recommend watching "Hobo" (1992) , way better documentary!!! 🍻
Honestly, they're both the same to me. Because when I was homeless and I was actually living with people like this with on a level of having absolutely nothing, but knowing people that did have something and I would follow along when I had nothing and I learned not to judge how someone talks or how they smell or how they look.. But there is a mode of self destructivism. Where it is a mode of anarchy or carelessness that what happens to them will happen to you and affect you. So they become a side effect. And that's why we're admitting hobo. Also, he keeps himself separated from other people. Intentionally, and that's part of the reason. He probably just couldn't think of it to explain that as well as the kid could in this video who lost teeth.
Well, we think these kids might be rats or whatever whatever. What about the parents and system of bad food and health? I mean, my teeth are falling out. I'm not 50 years old yet. And I don't think that's normal for humans. But I'm also not the type to get fake teeth. I don't want fake hair. Fake boobs fake butt. I don't have sleeves of tattoos to dirty my fresh skin. I don't understand all of the tattoos that these people do or there dirty hair. There's water and there is bathrooms at every fast food. These people didn't teach how you can use advantage of all the commercial systems and you can hang out in the middle of them all. I mean you can be normal and still be homeless and not even look homeless. You can work at job and then just go hang out at the mall if you work a night shift. And you can pass out in a restaurant or something like. There's a million ways to survive cleaner.
these guys are bums not hobos.
Occupy was a hilarious failure. They dont care how you feel

It's just language would especially in our culture today. Since the 80s hip-hop has really been a bad influence. I would say because it has infected everything even the punks. The punks don't really be punks. They're not with their own style cause everything's digital. It's like the guy with a band he couldn't even take his band on the road, but he could. It would all fit in their carrying pack. Everything works on a phone today and you can plug in all kinds. Find the things up to a 127 things into your phone. Because it's USB and that's the standard of u. Yes. B. But these kids don't know no better that they could create a website. They could create a domain. They could create something like Facebook all on the damn train. Using free Wi-Fi at every ma your stop. It's crazy that these kids have all the time in the world to create and do something digitally. And it can happen right on the train and on the tracks on the side. And with the campfire and anyone can do it because everything's battery solar. All the capabilities have been around since the 80s. But that's when you realize someone did realize that. And that's why they're on the train filming them as we watch it. Someone took advantage of it and they got paid.
Victimhood.... The younger generations excuse to fail, "Not their fault" they say, Just bad luck they say" I was out on the road/rail for over 10 years, If I suffered (It was my own fault) Getting jailed... Stupidity.
as a seasoned homeles kid , these guys got alot of god things about em but theyre dumb who yells while dumpster diving

Come on, you can relate to that if you were desperate. And you are craving beef and someone gives you chicken. Even if you are doing great in life and all the things that are perfect. A plus and the wife comes home with chicken blend and juicy with water rather than a nice brown steak. It's all the same. It's what you desire and hope for your happiness. When you Settle for something you didn't want. It's still settling for something you didn't want and ultimately. It's not happiness it's still just plain and simply surviving. That's when we become greedy and ruly, and it's somewhat of a privilege entitlement to judge others. Or to even throw consequences. The person that gave the cigarettes didn't feel like you did. But they also didn't feel bad that it's not what they wanted. It's just what it is okay. I know you're still going to smoke it and they did and they will. Even a homeless person would even when I was homeless. There was things I wouldn't accept like polo shirts. Or someone gives me a Eddie Bower blanket. I don't want that i'm not trying to be boujie either. It's like if you're in the thinking of helping someone. In you realize you didn't help them and here you are saying they are ungrateful because they didn't really get help because they didn't really get help because they didn't get the flavor that they wanted. It's no different than telling a kid to shut up at Christmas time. Because they're upset they got a substitute of a name brand item. The kid will still voice their opinion and the parent will still say you selfish prick. 😅
Yeah obnoxious is all I see with these guy
Well, you have to have a rough upbringing. To understand how to even understand it to begin with. You would have to have a brutal parent or a parent that just tossed you to the street and have a school system so diverse that you feel everything your parents did work for there's no reason to protect it because they gave it up to the diverse school that sacrificed their kids education altogether. Dad slaves for money while the kid is suffering at school dealing with drugs, gangs, and all this crap that came from everywhere, that was the worst neighborhoods in a nice neighborhood. That's what did it for me that everything he worked for and I was dealing with Detroit and all kinds of crap that he never believed me about because he paid the money. So I rebelled and I skipped school and then he tossed me to the streets. Rather than try to fix it. He just gave up. He said I don't follow the rules. His rules actually broke actual state laws and civil infractions. Not to mention morality as just a decent human being. But whatever I didn't want to kill my dad. So I left as he requested I didn't fight. I spent 7 years as a hobo as a transient or all those weird things of weird people. But I was always clean-cut. I always had tons of money. I was always ghetto rich and I still am. Cause I rap and i'd imminent electrician. I do all kinds of crap. I always have a way of providing a solution or a service for someone whether it's a big corporation that pays me a lot an hour. Or i'm gonna contract or side hustles whatever. The older I get though especially after Corona. I can't take this society anymore. I can't take going punching into that corporation. Or even for the guy who is independent trying to get all he can to compete. It's all one big rat race and it's Li. Don't know where I wanna go cause there is like this no happiness. It doesn't matter if I drive a Ferrari. I'm still not happy doesn't matter if I drive a train. I'm still not exactly happy and I don't know what exactly i'm looking for or if i've already lived it all. What all you can do is make your own happiness. I realized when I was poor with absolutely nothing. Or when I have a $100000. I know that I never did the scroungy things that these kids did. I never damaged myself. I never stunk and I never looked like I was coming from the street ever. Even working in the factories or in a foraging plant or stampings or welding. It doesn't matter I always clean. I used to roll with the street gangs and be in jail. I was always clean, always had a type of manner in etiquette because I was raised well as a Catholic kid. I know things. And I always carry that with me and taught people of the street how they could be a little more respectable to themselves not to be judged by the society of the slaves. And sheep, but when it comes to a style of free loading or living free at all. There's always a following. It's always a trend like you can look at these kids and see for that time PERIOD that was the trend, and they were still not Living Free but still Living to some kind of trend of the current narrative of kind of logical time on our calendars and that's what Really Crazy is You can. Actually tell.s of time by the clothing the hairstyles the language. It's always as if we're always on some decade program that flips every decade.
what a waste of life.
100% wasted lives. Sad...
What's so wasted about having fun? Especially when your young. What's sad is those who judge without cause or meaning. I have live more of a life in my 32 years of living to know I didn't waste shit. Don't judge what you don't understand a wise man once told me. I went from hopping on trains, to now hopping out of planes. Nothings sad about that my friend. Get out and live a little it's worth it.
Better than rotting away in section 8 housing and collecting a check
wasted lives slaving away to a corporation for 40 years
