    It's very simple:
    GK - Pickford
    LB - Shaw
    RB - Walker
    CB - Stones
    CB - Branthwaite
    DM - Rice
    Box to Box - Bellingham
    CAM - Palmer
    LW - Foden
    RW - Saka
    ST - Kane
Forget Maguire, you give Branthwaite a chance, with one eye on the future. You play Shaw in the group matches so he gets his match fitness up to speed. You bring Trippier in to LB if need be. Rice ABSOLUTELY can play DM and do that defensive duty. He's proven it at Arsenal, with Havertz and Odegaard (both attacking players) playing next to him. You play Foden LW and Palmer as the CAM, but you instruct both to switch positions throughout the game, so Foden can drift into the centre where he is more dangerous and effective.
Bellingham can play the Box to Box role, and he can put his foot in and win the ball just as well as he can go forward. You DO NOT play Bellingham CAM, otherwise you lose out on Palmer and Foden.
You DEFINITELY take Eze, as an impact off the bench, as he opens things up, like no other player England have. (I'm slightly bias, as a QPR fan, but I've seen first hand how he makes things happen. He's ridiculously good)
That team and setup, CHALLENGES for trophies. But Safegate won't do that. He will play Maguire, feel the need to protect him by playing 3 in midfiled, and he will leave Foden out on LW or bring him on, off the bench.
Attack is the best form of defence. Yes, our defence is our weakness. Therefore, PLAY TO YOUR STRENGTH, which is our attacking prowess.
Alas, it will be 3 in midfield and we will go out in the Quarters because Safegate has no backbone.

I just feel like Toney wouldn't get any minutes at all with how brilliant Watkins and Kane are, plus his form has been kinda poor for Brentford since returning. I see the arguments around penalties but does that warrant him a place? I feel like considering its very possible Shaw won't be fit enough, and given Stones and Maguires recent injury proneness, we need as much cover as possible in the defensive positions. He deserves to be on top... at least left wing... I don't see him fitting in the midfield... you need someone with good defensive skills there... a midfielder needs to be a little bit of everything while having a good vision for the field... that's why Bernardo fits very well... he doesn't shine that well in any position but he has a bit of everything. Maybe Gallagher would be fine more to control the possession and the counters... you need someone to stop the iniciative of the opponent right from the midfield... Foden just ain't it. At least Pedro Gonçalves or as he's called Pote, who played a very good season. Some have doubts about Pedro Neto on the squad since he has been injured. Also, Matheus Nunes ain't on the list due to his phisical conditions. Overall you can't please everyone can you... only 26 spots... we have some fresh legs with João Neves from Benfica and Francisco Conceição from Porto. Roberto Martinez likes Conceição since he can bring the ball forward on the flanks... he's fast and good on one o ones... although a bit scrappy on the last shot... when facing the gk... And Neves has a very good and competitive spirit... he can go far...
I am currently not expecting much from Portugal since there is a good and strong competition. It will depend on how they start the Euro's... England and France are my top favourites to win. Would be interesting to see a clash between the two at some point. Then there's Germany and Spain who have a tendency to show some good tactics and good, strong and attacking football even if they don't have the best players. Then Italy of course... always a pain in the *ss to play against Italian tactics... Atalanta played very well against Leverkusen yesterday...
I shall see how Martinez wants to put Portugal to play in the Euro's... there are 5 center backs and 3 defensive midfielders on the list... gives me flashbacks of 2016... we got very lucky back then... that won't repeat again... The one who wins will have to put some scoring boots for this year... that is what I think at least, can be wrong

@@joaochanoca3317 I have been a Ronaldo fan and watching Portugal since 2016 but everytime i see them play i dont see hunger and determination from the players to win. Even under Martinez portugal has looked vulnerable during defensive transitions so many times. I think the friendly against Croatia will give us a good idea how good the team chemistry is and the players willingness to win. Other than that they have great squad to compete against the likes of France and England

probably too soon for Quansah but stylistically if you want to play a more progressive style he might sneak in if he gets a friendly game and does well. Defending in one of the hardest systems for a young defender, often 1v1 on the half way line, to do that and perform really well in your first season shows the quality he has.

This weekend will be his 57th appearance in all comps this year (including the Europa League). Henderson, Trafford and Ramsdale have just 59 between them, with almost no European Football (Ramsdale made one early appearance). Butland is ahead in almost every metric, except the 'plays in England' one. It isn't the first instance of Southgate ignoring strong talent playing in other leagues either.

Maddison's assist was brilliant and creative in a tight space... given he's not likely to play unless we're chasing a goal in the last 30 mins I wonder if he can't give you that little spark for one of the forwards to latch onto.

It'll be a mix of Trippier (has played there for club and country), Shaw (when fit) and Konsa (left footed and has played there before). Zero chance that Southgate trials this Trent experiment now, he's more likely to be brought on at right back or play in midfield to open defending teams up
