      @Mark (217maka) The emphasis is on the "vain," not the repetition. Repeating a prayer is only wrong if the prayer is said without Christian faith.
      Interesting to note that, right after that verse you mentioned, Jesus gives us a prayer to pray in verses 9-13.

    I’m a protestant who started to get closer to God and I started to pray to God and ask what church do you want me to go to Lord and all the sudden I wanted to learn more about the church about the church history I didn’t even know there was something called church fathers. I started to look at the history of the church, and I found out there were something called orthodox Christians. I can’t explain it but my heart gets pulled to the orthodox church. I don’t know why. Orthodox Christianity is very foreign to me. The only explanation I can come up with is that it’s God leading me that way. I started to do the Jesus prayer every morning no matter what. I also do it when I feel the need to sin or need to center my self through the day. I have a ten bead prayer rope or rosary? I don’t know what it would be called. But now even just holding it I know it may sound weird but it feels almost like a weapon. The priest said sometimes bad things creep into our thought and it’s true. One day I was praying the Jesus prayer and vividly I could see a woman with a burnt face staring back at me mad. I was not afraid I stared back at her saying the Jesus prayer over and over again smiling because I didn’t feel fear. I don’t know why my thoughts brought that vision up but I was amazed how clear she was without me even thinking of anything like my mind went there.

      CHRIST IS RISEN+++
      Hope this helps to understand Scripture from early CHURCH INTERPRETATION - even going ba k to the Old Testament+
      Throughout the Bible, godly men are called “father”. Joseph was a wise counselor, and was therefore a “father to Pharaoh” (Genesis 45:8). Job said he was a “father to the poor” (Job 29:16). God Himself calls Eliakim a “father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem” (Isaiah 22:21). And in recognition of fatherly spiritual leadership, the prophet Elisha calls out to the prophet Elijah, “My father! My father!” (2 Kings 2:12). Later, the king of Israel called the prophet Elisha “father” (2 Kings 6:21). When these men demonstrate godly leadership, Scripture does not hesitate to call each one of them “father”.
      Quote-
      “apostle John recognized his spiritual fatherhood, by calling the members of a church his “children” (1 John 2:1).
      And Paul speaks this way many times, calling church members his “children” (2 Corinthians 12:14), and his “little children” (Galatians 4:19).
      Perhaps the clearest mention of spiritual fatherhood comes from the apostle Paul: “I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children.
      For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers.
      For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel” (1 Corinthians 4:14-15). In this Scripture, the apostle Paul calls himself “father”.

      @Isaac Brian Denny Does that mean we cannot call our own dads "father"? Don't be absurd. Christ our Lord often uses hyperbolic language. In fact, I would say it is one of His primary preaching techniques. Also, St. Paul says he has fathered spiritual children in the faith. Would his spiritual children stand condemned by Christ for acknowledging this fact which he states plainly? No, they wouldn't.

    Thank you, Father Spyridon. In dark moments I turn to your guidance. I thank the Lord that I found your channel. I did struggle with prayer, and not once did I ever think to use my hands.

    Yes, I agree 100% with the importance of this practice. This is what retains your presence and life as a being created in the image of God, and prevents the world from dragging you down and under. It is like the Africa wildlife videos where an animal goes to the water to drink. As long as we are in a state of prayer, we are safe from all the dangers. But the moment we are not, the crocodile will leap up from the water and pull us down and under. I am very surprised to hear these teachings offered by a form of Christianity. I don't know of any other form of Christianity that teaches these things. These are practices of monks and nuns, those that are truly dedicated. Even if you can do this for only an hour each day. If you can dedicate a whole day to it, it is well worth the effort. If it becomes a permanent state of your being, so that you are ever present, and never again submerged by the world, then there is nothing further that can be done. That is everlasting life. Being present, without interruption or disturbance. Death cannot touch such a being, and no Evil can deceive it. I don't know Fr Spyridon's view, but I understand this to be sainthood. So it seems to me. This practice is my greatest effort and commitment in life. There is always time for it. It is first on my mind as I wake, and last on my mind before sleep. And an arduous struggle to maintain throughout the day. But it bears good fruit.

    Thank you Father. I was contemplating this very thing after my morning prayer. I have been so distracted lately, my mind fills with quickly with random thoughts of daily activities, responsibilities etc. I definitely needed to hear this today. 🙏

    When i am reading the book of Revelation aloud many times the demons cause distractions causing me to yawn or itch here & there. I get rid of them telling them to leave in the name of Jesus Christ.
