- For those of you who don't know, Petz was a series of animal simulation PC games made during 1995-2000, it was made by P.F. Magic, who were notorious for making the abomination on the Genesis and SNES known as Ballz. Unlike that, however, these games were actually somewhat interesting. Though they weren't technically games, they were more like simulation programs. (Sort of like how Mario Paint wasn't really a game, it was mostly an art tool for the SNES.)
I just happened to stumble across my old Catz CD a while ago, (which also came with some version of an free 30-day trial of AOL, as many software CDs came with it during the mid to late 90's, as well as the shareware versions of Dogz, Oddballz and Petz 2. All of which I remember playing, along with Petz 3.) so I decided, what the hell, I may as well make some filler.
Recorded in DOSBox using Windows 3.1. And yes, I have Calmira. Go me. :D
The sound of the cat brings joy to my ears and to my heart.
I can picture myself playing this in the den with my sister sitting to my left and the both of us are laughing as we watch an adorable cat munch on a treat. Those were such good times. Then of course time sped up. Now my sister and I hardly speak to one another. Not because she's sore at me, but because her life is intertwined with the family she has created. It might be selfish to say, but, I sometimes wish I could go back and persuade my sister to stay single, so I always have a friend.
The nostalgia is real!!!

I've spent FUCKING AGES trying to remember what this was called, and finally, finally, I found it. bless you so much for uploading this, the nostalgia you've triggered is quite something. this game was the shit, man. for the mid 90s, this was pretty crazy. amazing.

feels good, doesn't it! a more innocent time for computers, it felt so exciting and adventurous using computers back then, now it's just a part of normal life. this game was so addictive, I played it on a friend's computer many times and I had grand ideas about it. I will come back to watch this video from time to time to remind me of good times :)

Over two decades of wondering what this game was I decided it was all a part of my imagination as a kid. I’m so glad other people remember it as well as I do and with such fond memories!

1.) Google a laptop that is compatible with Windows 95.
2.) Go on Ebay and find a cheap laptop.
I did this. I bought a laptop for $62.00. I installed Windows 95 using the OS boot disk. The OS boot disk cost $12.00. Not a bad price tag in comparison to the $880+ laptops today.
And all I could do as the huge impact of nostalgia hits me is to continue watching, secretly longing to travel back to the past just to play this game once more...

Yeah, taking the cheese off the shelf encourages the mouse to leave its hole. I personally wouldn't recommend taking the cheese off the shelf though, because then the mouse comes out whether or not you picked up the cheese (a kind of glitch occurs). The cat becomes distracted and that takes the fun out of watching it play with its toys.
Omg I never knew it would attack the mouse. That never happened when I played, and than God it sounded horrifying!

OMG this game was literally my childhood, I spent hours playing this game everyday, this game always made me laugh when I grabbed the dog and shook my mouse so the dog flew around the screen, obviously I was young so I didn't think it was bad, but thats what made it amazingly funny for me! Please tell me how I can play it again!

I'm 25 years old (I'm almost 26 years old) and I used to play this Catz computer game from when I was a little boy a very long time ago! Me watching this CZcams Video and some other CZcams Videos of this Catz computer game is a flashback from back in my childhood!

The operating system? No, that's Windows 3.1 with the Calmira shell replacing the Program Manager. It was meant to be a semi-replica of the Windows 95 GUI, intended for 386 and low-end 486 users who were unable to upgrade to Windows 95, or they could upgrade to it, but it would run like molasses.

Yeah I remember playing this, the bit that brought back the most memories was the sound the catnip made but this is going to make me seem like such an asshole but I used to pick the cat up and fling it about on the screen, and it would like hiss at you. At least I didn't do it in real life

I never liked this cat, my fave was the big grey fluffy one :) i used to spend ages on this game. If you were fast enough you could grab the mouse and dangle it in front of the cat.

To be fair, Petz 4 & 5 were nothing more than rehashes of Petz 3. The only major changes were the ability to make custom playscenes (Which I will admit was pretty cool.), minigames which I felt were stupid and pointless which got in the way of simply getting toys for your Petz, and the ability to have more offspring. For me, the series stopped being interesting after Petz 3 and it just got even worse after Petz 5 when they shot for a more realistic look and made it into a shovelware series.

somebody should try and get this working on windows 10 by making a source port or finding a way to get this working physically this game is a peice of electronic history without this we wouldn't have a nintendogs, digimon digivices, tamagotchis giga pets or even the chao's in sonic adventure and the pocketstation mini games like chocobo world and that one game with the hamsters, the guys over at sega owe alot when making this game also i was sent here from lazy game reviews

nothing wrong with the disc, its the computer it will not play on because the cd does not work on the up to date computers.
its a shame, because this game was alot of fun back in the day.
Download a virtual machine and they will work.
Pretty sure Microsoft now gives 95 and 98 out for free (though not the games). That combined with virtual box ought to do it.
