    Thank you a bunch for speaking on security. That's a very important piece for people building and maintaining a website for a long time. I had my Wordpress site for near 4 years and about two different times I had major security vulnerabilities take place. The first time I had to hire a coder to come and fix issues related to my customers not being able to make purchases. The next one was more recent where I totally lost admin access to my Wordpress site due to malware. It was baffling. Long story short - I got a full refund from my Hosting provider and I think with this video and some add't research I'll just go with Squarespace.

    Excellent video. I was on the fence on the two and this helped me to go with Squarespace too. WordPress seemed too complex to deal with especially if you know little about websites, like me.

    Thanks for helping me make a decision. I have used Wordpress before and didn't like it much. Squarespace wins for me because of ease of use and the fact that hosting is included!

    Basically agree with everything you say. If you start out, an automatic builder will better suit your needs for sure. However, there comes a time when you want to go pro and that means differentiating your site from others, at which point you will start cusomizing. And by that time, you wish you had wordpress from the start. On the other hand, you probably will want to employ a developer / designer for doing that anyway. PS. Siteground and most of the local hosting providers I know let you install wp with the click of a mouse button, db and all. So no trouble there...

    So, I am a fine art landscape photographer wanting to build a site to sell prints of various images that come in different sizes and framing options. I want to be able to link with my Facebook business site, my Instagram site, my Twitter feed. I using Wave online account, so it would be convenient to like with that as well. Cost is not the most important consideration, but is a factor. My goals are modest - about 10 sales per month. I am considering Shopify, Big Commerce and Squarespace at the moment. What would you recommend?

    What do you mean Wordpress is free? They have a free beginner option, but their Business plan is $25 a month, which is what most people would want.

  • @johnsmith1474
    @johnsmith1474 Před 2 lety +8

    You are doing this backwards. You should help people in the process of deciding what they will need (which they do not generically know if they are creating a 1st site), then direct them to the service that will provide that end product.
    The problem with template based site builders like Wix or Squarespace is that they are just layouts, with zero function and locked in use of space. If a new user would be satisfied with a billboard ad as a website, then a template is fine. If a new user expects a useful STRUCTURE of pages connected to pages with volumes of text or images, a template may be a dead end. It's like Legos vs woodworking. Legos are fast but only build Lego shaped objects. In wood you can build anything.

    I am tech savvy
    I DETEST wordpress. It is BY FAR the very most UN-intuitive inflexible ultra illogical app I have ever attempted to use. I have now had a WP site for 3 years. I still can't get it to do WHAT I WANT it to do and look. I even purchased a dedicated WP theme from Envato for the very thing I want it for. USELESS. It's pure hell. ...Just my 2 cents worth.
    PS: 5:25 sorry, but 100% disagree.

    • @1tansu1
      @1tansu1 Před 2 lety +1

      If you're not a programmer than you shouldn't be complaining if you can't customize a theme. You shouldn't be saying a platform is crap when its clearly your incompetence.
