Maasai Dancing and Jumping

- These are Maasai tribesmen (and girls) from the Amboseli area of southern Kenya performing a dance. The rhythmic motion that they perform is surprisingly difficult to do and the height that they jump is impressive to say the least. The mountain in the backdrop is Mount Kilimanjaro just across the Tanzanian border. This was filmed while on a Ker and Downey Safari. www.kerdowneysafaris.com/
proud to come from this community that has stayed stuck to its roots up to now ...maasai girl
I'm telling you they were not colonized at all... I'm so jealous
My roots come from them too I want to visit an be amongst them can anyone help me
I visited the Maasai this summer in Northern Tanzania and was lucky enough to be able to spend a night at their boma. Their culture is so rich and beautiful, watching this brought back many memories. I have to admit I shed a few tears watching this and remembering the overwhelmingly amazing cultural experience. These people are so strong and awe-inspiring. I hope someday in my future I can go back and visit them again.
Next time you want to visit let me know I am operating a cultural Masai Safari company. mo.naputu90@gmail.com
I think these wonderful people should enter the High Jump in the next Olympics. Kenya would almost certainly get a Gold!
Swear I love the Massai people. So much happiness with what we in America call so little
*****
It's all good boo lol *****
Yeah if you're idea of fun is jumping up and down in dust while humming, then this is the life for you.
You're an idiot
+False Teeth you fail to witness what is on display in the form of pure spirituality. Imagine an existence where you don't even know what it means to be a troll because loving yourself and your people and your environment implicitly and without doubt where there is only one grass and it is very green.
One of the most beautiful cultures. I love it and one day I shall go and see for myself.
These people were the happiest, proudest people I have ever met and in the Mara, I made several friends.
Great fashion idea! I never thought the purple and red would make such a beautiful contrast.
im proud be a part of this tribe.
So you should be! The Masai tribes of Kenya & Tanzania are amazing, to say the least! I have so much respect for the Masai & i find them totally captivating! They are so tall, handsome, graceful & strong. Amazing humans really.
Orgulloso y fiero de tener origenes MASSAI UN SALUDO DESDE EL PERU.
@@INTUITIVENORSK2303 Uganda too
Watched over and over- love the rhythm and singing everything about it is nice
Wow!! Such amazing culture & history. I can never get enough, of all things Masai. Talk about great genetics! Their stature, their customs & their culture is incredible! I am Swedish, Norwegian & Danish, but when i took my DNA test recently, i found i was 2% Eastern African, with Masai being my primary African ethnic DNA marker. Needless to say, i was so blown away & very proud of course. I wonder which one of my many thousands of ancestors, hailed from this amazing global region. In Europe, we say that the Dutch men are the tallest, along with some of my fellow Scandinavians, yet almost all Masai, many East Africans & Africans in general, are the tallest humans in the world. An amazing fact. My English is very poor & i manage with spell check to write this. Tack for sharing this video.
Maasai are tall, but east Africans are generally smaller than West Africans, the maasai are hamitic and nilotic. The south Sudanese on the other hand are purely nilotic and are the tallest Africans.
Amazing tribe, Maasai means so much to me...
its not really vanishing. they are one of the few tribes that refuse to give up their culture
The music is actually therapeutic to the heart.
it's amazing to see such pure and untainted form of joy from these people. life can be so simple...why must we complicate it?
+kcwarren01 I thought heart attack, diabetes , cancer , stroke, obesity etc were diseases too :)
+Wologan B. Not cancer and heart disease some ppl dont even know they have it
Wologan B. Either way you die from something and obesity and cancer is more commom in the US/west
+kcwarren01 You mean like the smallpox that almost wiped them out when white people showed up? Those are healthy people in the video, btw.
I was in the Masai Mara, Meru, Lake Nakuru, Samburu, Amboseli/Tsavo West areas in 1988 and loved every second.
Before I was born
This is awesome so unique i love it am so proud to be a Maasai
Nashipae Networks Pls sorry for the intrusion. I am looking for a Masai girl named Ann. I met her at a dating site, but somehow cannot contact her. Pls do by anyway know her? My name is Chris. Thanks.
My community my age set my loving kind friends that we spend with now and then. i use to enjoy with them on such an occasion at Soit Nado kerdowney camp Amboseli.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing this video about a vanishing culture.
Sharon Dwyer vanishing?
Can you imagine when there were thousands of them...
I weep at the sight of this video. This proud and noble peoples, once the great hunters and warriors of the Savannah, who, at the very sight of them, instilled terror in the hearts of other tribes, now reduced to dancing for a few pennies from rich German and American tourists.
Maasai men themselves are warriors
Esiteti Area ,Amboseli NP, Kenya, Proud of this home guys👍👍👍👍
2:19 THIS IS MY JAM!
that shit was fire af
Some of the fiercest and most physically powerful warriors on the planet. A Masai warrior's right of passage into adulthood is to fight a lion and overcome, with nothing more than a spear.
Not anymore. They stopped killing lions because they were on the brink of extinction.
me too i am so proud to be a masaai
It reminds me of my past time when I was a warrior...!!proud to be long here
Maasai are such a good looking bunch of people. And that jumping looks like fun.
hmmmhmmmmm its fun!found myself dancing to the rhythm of the humming!!!!
I love this every time I watch this it is like being called home.
they've probably been doing that jumping since they were little so no wonder they're so tall. The music is so soothing :)
There is a trick to the dance. It's so hard to emulate because we westerners think of the dance as being based on body movement and position but when I was there I was very frustrated because I'm a dancer and I wouldn't stop trying so finally they told me the trick. I'll give you a hint though, it helps a lot if you wear one of their necklaces. Watch the men's necklaces. For the women's dances, you'e on your own.
Hahahahhaha true
this is awesome
unbelievably cool!
Simply amazing.
I love the beauty of the tribal dances and I hate how it gets almost mocked unintentionally by rappers who don't even know anything about their own heritage.
American rappers are descended from West Africans, not the Masai.
whats worst is white people mocking it.
@@robertbrandywine correction. A lot of American black people are Hebrew Israelites
@@ely1188 A lot? And what is a "Hebrew Israelite"?

Awesome! Why is jumping so important to the Maasai? They seem to be so proud of the vertical height they get when jumping! Very impressive but why investing so much time at it? Beautiful community.
Form of dance..the Morans are the only members of society who dance n like that .....to show their strength to the opposite sex

Love the spirit displayed in this culture. I have heard they treat their women and girls like shit tho
They used to kill everyone who transversed their territory too, the British tamed and exterminated them.
