Part of the problem is I don't think there's law on the books yet here in Maryland to cover this. That's why the charges filed seem minor. I think Baltimore County police charged him with what they could.
But if that principal lawyers up and sues that athletic director I think the jury would award more than a slap on the wrist.

I remember, 5 years ago, some guy on a laptop in his kitchen, told us AI would be used to fake audio and video evidence in order to defame and accuse people of wrongdoing.
I knew this was coming. I just didn't know it would be so soon. This deepfake stuff is very new. Not in it's infancy, but new. (like...the internet in 1994) Imagine how bad it will be 5-10 years from now? 20 years? I don't think even computer forensics will be able to differentiate fake from real.

When anyone does this sort of thing, the legal system has to come down HARD on them to discourage such lies, which are hard to detect.

I'll tell you what happened, lawyers got a pay-out and thus, an industry of professional victimhood was born.
It ends where it becomes active defamation, with negative consequences. If you go around telling everyone a former friend is a child molester, and he is arrested or attacked, then that's not Free Speech.

It's interesting how the voice in the recording may sound like that of the white principal, but the inflections and cadence give away the black individual who made the recording.
