Fun fact:
The "instrumental" part was performed by Roger And Freddie using only their voices and the "tap" part was thimbles on their fingers taping on the table

Freddie singing in French... That fun! (Yes I'm French.)
And it is so true, Roger said it in an tinterview. They had a lot of fun doing it.

Very very clever arrangement and harmonies. No other band could have done this other than Queen. They were head and shoulders above all other bands and still unsurpassed to this day.
Mark Mallinder and to think they're all pretty smart, musically and academically.
MYCROFT IS THAT YOU
Mark Mallinder a
ABSOLUTELY and the sheer variety.
You're right, but you're forgetting "Martha, my dear" and "Honey Pie" by the Beatles, 8 years before this
Songs like this one made me fall in love with Queen, they had ' normal' rock songs (of outstanding quality) but on top of that they had these kind of brilliant 'silly' songs no other band IN THE WORLD could pull off and that made them into a league of their own, above all other bands, Absolute top class A++ geniuses.
To be fair, The Beatles were known for exactly these type of songs, and Brian May did mention he was inspired by them a lot, so I think it's fair to say the Beatles would pull off these songs as well
@Vidmantas Briska Who do you prefer, The Beatles or Queen?
@@mysty1353 I love them both equally
Mysty /\ I’d say the Beatles were a lot more influential than Queen but I could listen to Queen longer than the Beatles.
@CalfMan That’s fair.

Then I listen to all dead

This band feels like a fever dream. Sometimes I have to remind myself that Freddie Mercury was real. That this band was made of real people, and not a bunch of mystical beings sent from the heavens to grace us with their songs. And as for this song, just... Wow. It's theatrical, catchy, in an unconventional way. The way Freddie and Roger used their voices to imitate kazoos and woodwinds, and thimbles to imitate the sound of tap-dancing is insane. There will never be another group of artists like these four.
Great post. The variety these four amazing guys could produce boggles my mind. Going from "Seaside Rendezvous" to "Prophet's Song"...how is that possible?
@@gregbates2844 They were wizards. That, or they sold their souls to Satan. I have no idea how else lol
Great post. Queen was magical, fantastical, mystical. References to faeries, dragons, all wrapped up with Brian’s guitar made this unparalleled band the best of our time.
I think the same of the Beatles, when they released wild honey pie

Can't help but smile every time I hear this -- just thinking of Freddie and Roger creating all the accompanying "instrumentation." What fun!
Just incredible that a man who was Persian, born in Madagascar, educated in India and only came to England when he was 18 should write a song perfectly exemplifying exquisite Englishness and romance. A simply delightful, joyously infectious creation from our dear Mr Mercury.
I’m still discovering new Queen songs although I’ve been listening to them for good 9-8 years now. And I’m really shocked. Is there any music genre they didn’t touch with at least one song? Greatest band in history.

I've been listening to them since 1973. I don't think they ever did country music. I seem to remember Freddie said he tried. It didn't work. But we got the actual song. It turned into Bohemian Rhapsody.

One of the best songs on the album night at the opera
For me, the best band ever!!!
I first heard this in about 1982 when I was a teenager and had just bought the album. I vividly remember listening to it on a pair of crappy headphones on a crappy stereo system (that's all we had back then), but even given the sonic limitations this was astonishing to listen to. Then I listened to the rest of the album 💕 Ridiculously talented

This song is so fun!!! How is it that it took me to read a book about Freddie to discover it?? I love it!!
Freddie’s talent was out of this world, we have lost a legend 😞 and as Roger said Freddie had never read a book in his life and was amazed at his extraordinary brain and where he came up with vocabulary and ideas for his songs with such a big imagination! Roger said him & Freddie went into the recording studio and started messing about with the tools around them for this song. One of my favourite songs Freddie made, french words,English gentleman accent, finger tapping, give us a kiss at the end it’s just sensational 🎤🎹❤️👑
