@@fgpalm -- Burt's had two locations on Washington Ave. McClean's Department store was there; followed by IBM offices; and later Burt's bought the building and moved inm something like 'Burt's for the Home'.
It was that department store. I worked in the building when Modern Marketing Concepts was located there. I remember going into it as a kid when it was a department store and getting the Lions Voltron action figures in the toy department.
@palm...: yeah because the Cinema was down farther which used to be part of Burt's. I used to buy my daughter's Brownie uniforms, etc. in that same building.

The "BAE Systems Campus" is actually the Phoenix Campus (formerly the Huron Campus; it was the IBM Campus before that). Phoenix is the owner; BAE Systems is the largest (by far) but not the only tenant.
This place is so F'ed. I moved out of Endwell in 1991 for greener pastures. At this point, I could move back to the triple cities and start businesses etc. I see no future in this place at all. When IBM retires die, things will get much worse. Sorry but the truth.
@@fgpalm True. The main killer is property tax and taxes in general. My house in SC would cost around $40,000 a year in property taxes in the triple cities. On top of that I would pay more sale tax, couple percent there, higher income tax. Etc. etc.

Subway has been there for like 35 years. Use to be owned by Bill Stringer. Use to work there 85/87. He owned one on Conklin Ave (???) in Binghamton too.

I saw 'A Christmas Story' when it was released at the old movie theatre on Washington Avenue and used to go to a little place called 'Dick's Sporting Goods', also on the avenue, to get a new facemask every year for the Vestal Youth Football League!
I don't remember Dick's ever being on Washington Ave. Dick's was in Vestal across Bridge Street, I think there is a Ace hardware store in that area now. Dick Stack sometimes was at the cashregister at his Court Street store, I don't remember seeing him in his Vestal store. @@davidnull5590 Oh yeah. In the early 80's, Dicks was on Washington Ave. It started out as a tiny little store and expanded to two floors, and then moved to the much larger location after I moved to AZ.
Does anyone know if the trolley tracks that were paved over in the center of Washington Ave. are still there? I don't know what day of the week this video was made; in the 1960s peditistrain traffic was so high on Washington Ave. on Saturdays the town considered rules (really stupid ones) for walkers on the Ave.; and the biggest complaint was chewing gum stuck on the sidewalks; there were lots of people - you really could get run over. And, the parking was perpendicular and at an angle to to the sideways, Washington Ave. was also a one-way street. There was a huge brick EJ factory at the end of the street (North St.)
@@fgpalm That's really sad. Imagine sidewalks so crowed you had to look carefully out for other pedestrians. The chewing gun on the sidewalk 'problem' was a real thing the Town Board struggled with.
I heard there was a lady who just opened a café there and because she had no alternate entrance, like a back entrance, to her business she has to close while construction is going on. That would be quite a while.
Thank you Frank. Very nice job showing my hometown's downtown upgrade. Really felt good seeing it again.
As always Frank nice video.

it decay !
Was that Dept. store Burt's??
Burt’s was more up the block from the one I questioned I think

Individual parking meters are an antique nowadays as most cities go to parking pay stations. Glad you captured these for posterity. Nice video.
I don’t think they are in use anymore either

I remember the tracks, but I think they were removed during a previous do-over in the 80s.
Feel bad for the businesses there.
