This field is turning out to be a beauty having previously produced both Roman silver and medieval silver we now have an amazing relic which could be Roman or Medieval…. What do you think??

The silver piece made me think of a book closer locking bracket.
Yes, please give us an update on the silver object…I’d be fascinated to find out what it actually is! Cheers, and ATB!
Possibly very old bookclasp? Nice find my friend.
It does have that look. Good suggestion.
The silver piece looks to be hammer-made. The uneven surface dimples are percussive marks? Very cool.
That piece of silver is very interesting. Congratulations and thanks for sharing!!!
Keep us updated on that mystery silver! I’m very curious to hear what the museum has to say. I absolutely loved The Detectorists!
Will do! And me too!! Hope they’ll be back with a Christmas special!
Awesome silver piece, a buckle, a weight, a musket ball, button and a few lovely coins make for a wonderful day out. Thanks John.
Looking forward to learning more about that piece of silver
Cant wait to hear what the museum says about that silver... Hopefully you will share that with us.. I know you normally do. interesting designs and I bet its medieval due to the crudeness. Congrats again for such wonderful pieces of history you are recovering!
Many thanks. I’ll definitely update when I know more! Many thanks
It is amazing to stand there holding history in your hands ! 🥰🗺 Nice finds.

Nice piece of silver, looks like the end of a belt maybe.. always looking forward for more vid's cheers 🤠
I agree! Others suggest maybe a book clasp! Both good options
Yes John I think you definitely have an ancient relic in that silver plate, really interesting and lm looking forward to you finding out what it is.
A few other good finds but I think they were an added bonus today to the silver.
What a great fun day in super weather & special finds. Hope we learn what that piece of silver is - how curious!!! Thanks for taking us along.😊
Many thanks Judith. I’ll keep you updated
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend, from this old man in Tennessee. Happy to see you back out in lovely weather, detectorizing again. That’s a nice Silver find. A strap end makes sense…definitely mid-evil or pre-historical. Cool.
Many thanks Mr Tennessee and lovely to see you back again!
You’ve inspired me to plant carrots in my garden this year. Only treasure I’ll find is some carrots later this year, if I’m lucky. Nice day for you today, coins and silver. 🥰👍👍
If you get 24 carrots you've stuck gold.😁
Oh I’m going to have to come back here to see if anyone was able to identify the silver ‘strap end’. Very intriguing. The carrot fields are full of surprises. Thanks John, been missing your adventures, but I know you’re incredibly busy and also not many places to detect at the moment.
I’m not any kind of expert on any finds in Europe but I keep thinking a piece of armor. Some kind of scale armor piece. I guess it’s headed to the museum.
Many thanks Laurel. That was also one of my thoughts too!! But in silver I thought maybe a bit extravagant but you never know!!
On it john 😀💪🏴🏴
Enjoy! And have a great weekend
That silver piece that has lines and characters, could be phases of the moon and a way to keep track of days like a type of calendar.
Well done! Please let us know what the museum says abt the silver find. Greetings from Oregon, USA
Will do and many thanks! Have a great weekend
I just love your videos mate! The Scottish brogue is awesome. Wishing you all the best, stay dry and thank you from Ohio in America.
Than Jethro for me- I used a Deus 2
Many thanks Steven and happy hunting
Nice to see you out on the fields!
It's about 100 degrees here... I'd rather be in Scotland!
But then I'd almost always rather be in Scotland!
Hahaha 🤪 stay cool!
Nice finds John. The coins and cup weight are nice finds, the silver is great, and definitely decorated. It will be interesting to see what you find out about it. Cheers from Texas.
Wow what a find! Love the hammered finish to it and all the decorations. Has to be mega old for sure! Look forward to hearing what you find out about it.
Many thanks! Will keep you posted!!
@@thescottishdetectorist Fab 🙂
Thanks John and Yes a really good day out 🤩 That silver piece does look like it been attached through the holes to something, I recon quite an age too 🤞It’ll be interesting to see what FLO says about it, please let us know. Plenty of other good things too John despite what you thought to begin. Those coins apart from one are in nice condition. Looking forward to next time you’re out. Not tried Jethro yet. 🙂
That unidentified silver piece has the markings of being hammered. Have you identified it since? Beautiful! Hello from New York!
No news yet but I’ll let you know when I know more
Great video! That silver piece could possibly be a pendant.
That would be amazing also. I’ll let you all know what the museum say
Honestly at first glance, that piece of silver looked like a piece of scale mail(armor). Until the museum says otherwise, I will believe my imagination 😂
I’d take that all day long!! Would be great if it was
@@thescottishdetectorist It’s a wee flag with hash marks for wins
Chuffed for you!!! Excited to hear what the museum says about your silver find!!! I didn't have any idea that there were even Scots in WW1!!! So sad there were so many casualties 😢😢 This is the best detecting channel for sure!!! Love the history!!❤❤❤
Much appreciated. Thanks for watching
Fantastic to see you out again bro.! So glad the weather was good & you had a successful day. That belt / strap end certainly looks like it's got serious age to it.! Excellent find !! Bless up 👊
Many thanks Nick. Some great finds and a sunny day! What’s not to like
Great finds John. Have a cold frosty beer, you deserve it. Cheers!
Many thanks ☺️
The beavertail is on my bucket list 😂
Great finds in such an short time❤👋🇫🇮waiting to hear about the silver thingy👍
Many thanks! Will let you know when I know more
I'm going with Iron Age on that silver piece. The design looks crude. It looks like something that would be hooked to a garment. Can't wait to find out!
That would be cool! Many thanks! I’ll keep you posted on what the museum say
Cracking silver buckle/strap end John. ... fantastic find 👏 👍
Many thanks Gary…. Can’t wait to see how old it is
@thescottishdetectorist I'm thinking its quite old John 🤔
I reckon the round bit on the end of that silver could’ve been a circular hole into which a clasp may have slotted through.
The strap would have likely came out of the side with the rivet holes.
Whether the other end of the strap had a metal, wood or just was plain leather, I couldn’t say…but it was likely rubbing on the circular shape as it slotted through the hole
Another awesome find John thank you for sharing with us. Have a great rest of the evening.
Many thanks Donald. Much appreciated
cool you found silver
Excellent video, great finds❤
Hi John,Thats real old, love the coins.
Certainly looks it Gloria!! Many thanks
The hammer marks in that silver piece are very distinctive John. Maybe a clue to its age?
Recent subscriber here! Love watching and listening to you 😊 Greetings from southern Portugal!

Well done John! Great work!
Many thanks!
Absolutely BRILLIANT Silver item (guess is something to do with a sash) LADDIE!! Cheers fae Canada. Hope tae attend Detectival 2024 in Sept. and meet you if you are attending.
Incredible find John! Definitely looks very old. Middle Ages I’d think. Off to the museum with that one!
Many thanks Greg. Will keep you posted once I know more
Hello John, it looks like you got a fair collection of items on your outing. Have a wonderful weekend… John
Glorious day !
The holes on the silver thing seem to be unfinished. The top hole looks half rounded so, perhaps it wasn’t meant to be seen or made in a hurry. Book clasp? Box or chest lock ?
Book clasp would be amazing that’s for sure!! Thanks George
What a beautiful silver thing you found! Hope you find out more about it and let us know. Someone said book end, and I could see that.?😂
Book clasp is another potential!! Thanks
I think its one scale of scale mail armour. Maybe some part of a neck protector on the back of a helmet ?????
Even 2000 years ago people were excellent at working metals, so this example of silver might be either earlier than Roman or not actually decorated and marked through use etc.
Much appreciated
Could your bit of silver be a piece of Roman armour - the lorica squamata?
Very lovely ship's design on reverse of the George VI half penny . I have always enjoyed looking at these. What ship is it supposed to be a generic ship or one is known ? Thanks .
It’s the Golden Hinde. The ship Francis Drake circumnavigated the world in in the 16th century
The silver incised strap is really incredible and no telling what it is or was.
Thanks Jeffrey. I hope it’s Roman/Iron Age, but I’ll keep you all posted
Hopefully the siver proves to be a great find.
How long do you have to wait to show items to the museum?
Would you consider doing a video of finds the museum has positively identified?
Nice piece of hammered silver. I hope you can find out what is is and let us know.
I hope so too
Nice finds! Silver! A wee persons metal vest! 😂 hope to hear what it might be.
That would be cool! Hahaha 🤣
Brilliant 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed
Thanks for the video. Very intriguing and rather beautiful silver relic. Please share any info gathered. Thnkx
Cool hand John lol
looks like medieval hand worked silver to me very good find.
Many thanks!! That would be amazing
Pictish....Best Martin
Are you allowed to keep all your finds or do you have share them with the property owner? Thanks for the video.
oh, I so want a real Gothic Victoria!
Beautiful
So excited !!! 7 days is too long
I feel it's a book or bible catch. Nice hunt John. Good to see you out. Get your wife something nice for standing her up 🎉
I get the impression that it looks hammered. Looks old to me!
The dots on your silver strap-buckle piece look reminiscent of viking decoration.
Actually think it's more likely to be Bronze Age.
Stonker of a find.
the lovely silver find is clearly handmade. Looks to be very old.
Thanks Lucy. I’ll keep you posted
👍👍

Nae idea.
Hey John. I am curious. There are newer technologies and apps that allow you to scan the sizes and shapes of things like furniture and shoes. It would be great if you could use (maybe develop) one of those kinds of apps to help identify the finds. I know that many of the finds are fragmentary or squished but then there are the ones like at the 9:00 mark than are complete. Is there some app that may perhaps give some answers? Anywho, kind greetings from Los Angeles!
*that*
Buckle plate maybe john 🤔
Looks like it doesn’t it! I wonder how old 😯
That silver piece is crudely hammered to shape. The dents are too irregular to be very modern. The whole piece is crudely made. Maybe the museum can tell you.
Actually that mic is a lot clearer
Possibly a church token? My husband thinks there are some like it in the Perth Museum.
Many thanks! He’s right there are lots of old communion tokens in Perth museum! Many thanks
Looks like part of book clasp item w 2 holes
Would like to see what museum say on that piece and an update please.
Good suggestion! Others have said the same which would be amazing!
Definitely will! Thanks
👏🏼
THANKYOU
Is it me or does the silver have the same kind of circle marks as the ingots you’ve found before?
Hi Aaron. There are a few wee circles on it but they aren’t the same as the ingots, plus little diamond decorations too. But who knows! Maybe same era! Maybe that was the fashion of the time
Do you have any good programs for Nox 800 saved link or something to it?
Good job, i really like to follow your videos nice finds.
In my imagination the silver thing is a book clasp for an anglo-saxon monk's psalter, self made from silver coin that he beat out, and with fastenings of leather thongs rather than metal. This is just my imagination about it.
That would be amazing!! I did wonder about a book clasp actually!!! That would be awesome
Looks like hammered silver
Thanks Nancy. It’s an interesting piece that’s for sure. Look forward to seeing how old it is
Antediluvian silver? I hope so.
That would be nice!!
John are you on any rallies this year buddy
Hey Karl. Heading for Rodney Cook end of August, early September and otherwise I think I’m working flat out 😢
The ships haepenny that was minted the year my late husband was born.
My Aunty also 😊
You got hammered silver... just not the shape you're used to looking for!
Hahaha 🤣 you’re right!!
