The Engineering of this aside, you managed to edit one of the most compelling videos I've watched in a long time. I never expected to be gripped for the full 54 minutes even though I always thought the iMac G4 was the most beautiful system Apple ever built.
Well done!
😂
One thing's for sure: That thing will never pass any airport security check.
But for real: Nice job!
Imagine dispatching an iMac in the luggage.

Well I brought an M1 iMac and iMac 2008 20 inch on the plane on my vacation to Florida 2 days ago. M1 in suitcase and 2008 on carry on bag
Precious !!. Without a doubt, the Mac with the best design in history, renewed to last for many more years. Exquisite work. Congratulations
See children's cushion:
- I have no need for this!
Proceeds to use it for the entire build...
Haha. I think the same 😁 thanks
Ya lol
Could this be done with an M1 board? Shoving an M1 Mac mini into one of these imac g4 bodies would be a dream...
Yes, you should be able to, just get yourself an M1 Mac mini and pretty much just follow this video. It certainly shouldn’t be as cramped as the nuc on the video because the logic board is about half the size of the actual Mac mini. If you do choose to do this, then I wish you good luck
Other than the fact you’d need to chop two posts to get a secure spot to keep the board in, you can actually do it all without a new screen if you wanted to. Just need a driver board for the og lcd or buy a new screen for it.
@@miguelmcnamara8405 someone put an M1 Mac mini in an g4 cube and was left with half of the space being empty. The body of the iMac G4 is probably big enough that you could straight up put an M1 Mac mini in there without even removing the shell? I don’t know the exact dimensions, but removing the shell or not, it would be an piece of cake.
Hardest part would probably be to get a good usb hub so all the connectivity on the back will still work. Change the disk drive for an fast read and write blu ray drive (And give the Ethernet port 10Gbit capability while you are at it) and you are all set. Maybe source an compatible 4K screen as cherry on top although 1080 is already pretty good for an retrofit.
All m1 boards are relatively small, you just have to find the one with th right features. it'd probably pose less of a thermal issue as well because of the low TDP the m1 has.
@@LumaControl big passive cooling heatsink could already be enough.
For me this imac model is the most beautiful of all the time.
That's nice,mine is the new m1 iMac
Candy ones first gen was the best. Especially Ruby
This nearly hour long video felt like it went by in less than 15 minutes. What an amazing mod/retrofit!
i love your creativity and how detailed you re in building this custom G4, the little attention after cutting the back panel, love it! everything
Appreciate the long hours, and the amount of engineering in this upgrade! Stunning.
This was the Mac of my dreams when I was kid, amazing to see it brought back to life and better than ever.
it's really hard to keep people glued to your video for an hour, you sire did an absolutely amazing job. Loved it!
I'm absolutely amazed how practical u are pulling this together!
this is not restoration, this is rebuilding. Good job 👍🏻
it is one giant orgy of connectors and adaptors all scammed up inside a shell of what used to be

Best computer design ever! I'm happy to see that it's possible to mod it into a faster machine. Good job!
What a journey, thanks for taking us part of your trip. Great project.
Thank you for sharing your mad skills brother. The old pedestal G4's are one of my favourite Apple designs and it was a pleasure watching you jump every hurdle the compact form factor threw at you. I need someone like you in my parts cupboard.
Now build me one! 😉
i watched this all in one go, i love videos like this
Damn that’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen
simply, BEAUTIFUL. Excelent job, this model was with me at home in 2010, great memories. thanks for sharing
Excellent job! Looks amazing. The iMac G4 looks so cool - a modernised one really is a dream 🤩
Love and Respect. You showed this machine the respect it deserves.
you used those baby playmats a lot in the end
I loved my iMac G4😭. If I had it customised to bring it back to life again - I would gladly display its beauty on my desk. It was amazing to watch you take it all apart, your dedication, problem solving & modifications. This was a fun watch. I'm so happy to see it come alive again.... the wake up at the end🥺✨💕
This is the most satisfying video i haven’t seen a while. Thank you brother and good job 👏🏼
You used the cushions very well for the build!
I was thinking this the _WHOLE_ time
This was amazing to watch. Thank you for the time and effort you took to make this. I always thought these macs looked awesome and I’m just now getting into the ecosystem at 34 y/o. It just warms my heart to see this.
Truly AMAZING!!! I like the 17" running big sur! what a great job you did! I would love a 17" imac running big sur, something about them compared to the new machines they were just better it seems! you did an amazing job I don't know how long it took in real time BUT I watched every minute of your video. THANK YOU!!
What an excellent job! I am working on a 6” hemisphere mount for iPad Pro 11” with gaming handles and thought of using an old G4 but decided to go with a 6” anodized aluminum shell that will contain a 6AH LiPo, charging circuit and amp/speaker array into an articulated arm with magnetic back fiber panel with pogo pins.

Those cushy floor tiles were really helpful, it appears! Great video - it was fun to watch.
I had NEVER EVER watched any video on CZcams longer than 30 minutes, but damn it! You ARE AWESOME cause your work on that beautifully designed iMac G4 Sun Flower. I love this iMac design and you were able to give it a new lease of life. I salute you. Thank you for sharing your wonderful work. If only I have the money to buy it from you, I would do that in a blink of an eye. Again, your work is awesome. Keep it up. Domo arigato gozaimasu. Greetings from Indonesia.
Honestly great effort and the results were amazing for that effort though . Making impossible into possible, the combination of og and power 👍🏻
Great Job! One of my favorite designed Macs...EVER! After watching the video, I find myself on Ebay looking for a cheap 17" iMac G4 wanting to put a M1 mini in!
That's a loooot of work on it! ... really that was awezome ! CONGRATS!
I admire your persistence and determination! Well done!

And he said he doesn’t want it! 🤣🤣🤣
Incredible job! Well done. 👏
The iMac G4 is still one of my favourite Apple designs!
Wowwwwww! Congrats! One the greatest hackintosh mods I've ever seen.
What exquisite work! My most sincere congratulations!
👏👏👏👏Hats off to you, sir. You have serious talent. You are more of an expert than the Mac Geniuses at Apple Stores! Your remodelled iMac G4 is priceless now. All of your hard work payed off, BIG TIME! 👏👏👏👏
The subtitles are amazing. A mix of broken English and incredibly polite Japanese mannerism.
I love Japanese people so much. Please, never change.
By the way, this is meant in a good way, I feel like I need to specify it. I understood every bit of it, and from the comments I see that everyone did too. Your English is amazing, dude! And the project too!
His English is fine, but it's certainly not perfect, makes it that much better!
Thanks for including all the details in the video. I have 2 imac g4s that I don't know what to do with, so this gives me a good guide.
Wow!!!! Great video and astonishing result! Well done!
If you are interested in improving your design, I think some devices don't allow the use of extensions (hdmi, usb, etc.), I think you could unsolder the plugs from the motherboard, solder wires onto it instead and route them to the plugs in the back. Also when the glue retaining you plugs breaks, I suggest you try jb weld. There's also some free space to gain with this power supply situation. I feel kind of sorry for giving you suggestions, especially as I wouldn't have put myself into such a project, like all those other people complaining. I think what you already did is fantastic. I'm really hoping to see new videos from you in the future. Improvements on this project or a totally new version would be great.
赤ちゃん用のマットちゃんと役に立ってますね
Mamma mia! My dear and old imac. How many memories. Great job!
Hats off to you on this mod, brilliant stuff!
I totaly love your work, thanks for sharing the video! How about thermal issues, are there any? Everything looks packed soooo tight, and the power adaptor in the middle of everything looks like a potential problem on hot summer days.... Still, you've done a great job with some simple and available solutions, I like it very much! Respect man!
First thing I thought... what about the thermals?!
Fantastic work! I have one question: Why did you place the LCD PSU inside the iMac? Couldn't the 5 or 12 volts required by the LCD driver have been taken from the Pico PSU instead?
He use adaptor... I see that
@@yosukerechain2000 This is true, but I'm asking why they chose to use the adapter, not how they actually did it. Theoretically, DC power could easily be extracted from the pico PSU rather than placing a bulky AC power adapter inside the iMac housing. In the video, I noticed that the adapter took up quite a lot of space inside the already cramped computer, so I was just curious why they chose to build it this way. Maybe there was not enough wattage overhead in the pico PSU to handle the additional load, but if this were the case, I think the computer would be experiencing some other serious problems anyway...
Cool job mate. Nice to see people like you. Huge respect.
Its so satisfying to see progress and the sound of connectors clicking, its just like adult lego!
Well done..
I'm also rebuilding one with NUC10 and a 4k 17.3" LCD panel...

why not use power from output of psu for LCD driver ?
I know....right? Why try to shoehorn that AC adapter in there.
@@joeysluzer1913 Using power from psu, after turning off the PC, the screen will also turn off, and it will not show "no signal", and LCD power consumption below 20 watts
I still had the same unit in my home.. and it still works hehe... it was my late Dad's latest iMAC before he died in 2005... and we just cannot bear to be apart from it...
Same here! I have mine in the original box! I can't seem to part with it! It's beautiful! I wish I knew how to do all this to restore or rebuild! :)
Man you put in so much work into this. 👍👍 Amazing
This seems a big dangerous sitting the power supply for the monitor there and blocking some of the CPU cooler
Good thing there are things called temperature probes to monitor such things and set automation whether limiting resources, increasing fan speed, or full shutdown.
I have one of these sitting around. They seem to be worth a out $150 US for a mostly working unit .
WOW, riesen Respekt 👌
Sieht richtig gut aus und alleine schon die Umsetzung mit Display tauschen und Co. einfach genial ✌️
Man, it was so awesome! I wish I could do something like this! Thanks, it was really well done.
amazing project, say what you will about apples hardware, their design is hard to beat. I've gotta say, it's probably would have been way easier to use an aftermarket 17 inch laptop screen rather than a macbook lcd, you can find them in higher resolutions and they're brighter, cheaper...
keep it up.
Yeah, just rip their internals out and build something worthwhile --I agree
Is this man a magician? He plugged the Usb-stick 6 times without it being the wrong way even once 😱😱
yeah man. he's a wizard😂
Pro tip: the USB logo / pair of square holes is on the top 99% of the time.

Great Project, you pushed me to buy an iMac G4 17", such a great piece of art. Thank you :-)
I was impressed

if I'm ever gonna do a transformation like this I'd just grab the hinge mechanism and build a custom enclosure around it.
I was thinking the same, man. Lmao. Make a plug, fiberglass, same matte white, along with larger screen.... ya know what? Why not just design your own in the first place now that I think of it?
that mac was always my favorite , and now you have made it a thousand times better! kudos
It looks stunning with the widescreen monitor!
There's things that could've been better, but nevertheless really good job and most importantly u had fun while doing it!
congratulations.
Wondering the temperature inside with that packed room 🤔
eh ada indo juga 😂
I think so too. it is not enough to cool all of component in that G4
Super cool project - impressive execution!
I love iMac G4 design! So awesome, this!
I was wondering how you would handle the circular IO distribution. Well, doing it the Apple way, dongles !
Ngl I would pay this guy to build one of theses for me
Beautiful results. Relaxing and entertaining video. Thank you.
You are an inspiration for me brother! Much love from a malay guy from Malaysia !!!! Keep up the great work !
Awesome work!! One point of “critic”, the video is almost unwatchable due to the excesive amount of commercials…
ublock origin
That’s not his fault. It’s yours for not having CZcams premium.
here i´m using adblock and non commercials appears, or you can use CZcams Vanced on Android
@@rp6782 i watch tons of this kind of videos on my iphone with way less ads in them without having youtube premium… when uploading videos that are longer than 8, 9 minutes you can choose yourself to add ‘mid rolls’. You choose the amount, the placement, etc… standard uploads are mostly at the begining and end of each upload… so no its not “my fault” for not choosing premium… I dont mind for any youtuber to make money at all, but my point was that it still has to be watchable for those without premium or adblock options (because of an iphone)
@@rp6782 creators of this scale actually do have input on the degree of monetization of their channel and are paid accordingly.
How much was the cost of the modification? How much would you charge for a kit to do the modification? This was absolutely brilliant and I would love to do it to my G4.
Just watch the video. Most of the items in said kit are self explanatory.
What a beautiful project congratulations, this is so beautiful
Love your works! Terrific jobs!
I really think the M1 Mac would have fit in there, you'd save all the space on the wifi card. Plus with a bit of electrical work, you could have saved on that second power cord. But either way, great work!
He said the M1 won't output video in 16:10 for some reason...
@@prodbydanai I have an M1 Mac, it displays 16:10 just fine.
@@deidyomega Wow!

This is just amazing, you did something that I always want to to!
Wow, that is awsome that you updated the internals, replaced the Firewire with USB-C, and the speakers go perfect with this computer. I do love that I-Mac. And you have the most recent MacOS (Big Sur). I am so impressed. Great job!!!
They go perfect because they were made for it
Cool project! Mind you that instead of the pci-e wifi adapter, you could've gone for the compatible ngff card that you could've replaced within the provided factory housing. Any Broadcom 94352Z would've worked, both Dell and Lenovo variants. Nevertheless, really nice work and an awesome build.
Or just usb dongle which is better compatability with hackintosh and would avoid interference all together.
@@downthecrop Dongles work fine for basic connectivity but lack the support for airdrop, continuity and other essentials
You could’ve bought a Dell XPS 17 panel! It’s 4K, 16:10, 100% AdobeRGB, and 500 nits! (Though, I don’t know if that panel is on the market by itself yet).
i love the design of iMac g4, and the remodeling the machine, it's useful now. cool
I really like how you found uses for the foam puzzle pieces that got shipped with it.
Imagine wireless mouse, keyboard & levitating speakers!
He did set it up with wireless mouse and keyboard at the end. Wtf do yoh mean levitating speakers? Wth
Should had put the USB's individually, and not through a HUB to one port on the motherboard. That basically limited the bandwidth of those ports to a third of USB 3.1 capacity.
Because two out of the three are for keyboard and mice...
Try again.
@@DrZbo so, mice and keyboard are going to be need to be connected internally (inside the case), directly to the motherboard all the time?
Seems like a lot of work to go through everytime you need to connect such essential peripherals...🤷🏻
try again
@ seems like you're just mad that this guy's weekend project reached more people than your entire musical career. So now you're latching on to some tiny mistake he made.
@@jorysbeard3657 my initial comment was meant to be educational, or if there was a reason behind his decision, I was hoping for the channel owner to share it. I liked the build, and wish him continuous growth and success with his channel and future projects.
It was because I liked the project so much was that I made my comment, in case he didn't knew how USB bandwidth and PCIe lanes work on a motherboard to take advantage of its full potential, precisely because the build is awesome and he went through a lot of work to achieve it.
So not a jealous or mad individual here, my musical career has been dead for many years now 😁
