      @Chopstorm. Před 4 lety +16

      The name Jumbo was never used. The problem with using that name is tanks that were not actually M4A3E2s get lumped in together. Standard M4A3E8s that were uparmored with concrete or armor scraps from knocked out tanks are considered "Jumbos" as well. They do not have the same armor thickness, nor the same weight or much of the same infrastructure.
      As far as I'm aware, the M4A3E2 did not come equipped with the M1 76 from the factory. Those were field conversions.
      It was also classified as an assault tank, not a heavy tank. US classification for tank roles were distinctly different from other nations.

      The supposed "Tiger II" destroyed by the Super Pershing was either an entirely fake story, made for US Propaganda, or it was a Panzer IV. This is because, according to the Gunner's story, he shot underneath it, since it was attempting to go over some rubble. The shot then hit the ammo locker and the tank exploded. The reason this has to be a Panzer IV is because the Panzer IV stored it's ammo on the top, unlike the Tiger and Panther, which store their ammo on the sides.
      Zaloga, on Pershing “Though the new tank would never meet its intended nemesis, it did enter combat on 4 April along the Weser River, firing its main gun only once, yet destroying an enemy tank from approximately 1400 meters” . Clearly he is unsure of the correct identification of the engaged vehicle, at 1400 metres a late Mark IV could be misinterpreted as a Tiger.

      Kind of a shame since the T-14 was a Sherman but better in almost every way, combining the battle-proven design of the Sherman with the heavy armour of the Churchill. Just replace the 75mm M3 with a 76mm M1 and you've got a tank capable of outclassing the Panther and taking on the Tiger 1. (the only real downside imo would be the reduced speed, but a good engine could improve this)

    You forgot the M4A1 (W) 76. There where actualy quite a few build and it showes just how competent the original design was and you are missing the M4 (105) which was a very liked tank because it could go threw the upper Plate of a Panther at any range and it could defeat dug in Infanterie and anti tank positions because guess what? You have got a Sherman with a 105mm Howitzer in a supersised turret.
    The Jumbos mantlet and turret are both Kind of small in your moddel(Mantlet was 178mm thic and turret sides where 152mm thic)
    Also for WW2 standards the M26 Pershing was a heavy tank(it became a medium tank in the Korean war).

      @davidkristyhaan3178 Před 4 lety

      AmazingViz yea but the actual tank used in the film is indeed an m4a2e8 (76), the main difference between the a2 and a3 is the engine, a2 being deisel (which the brits preferred, and were really the only ones fielding the tanks under lend lease, US did not use the a2) and the a3 was gas.
      Also, the m26 and t26 would’ve been considered heavy tanks, it wasn’t till after the war that it was reclassified medium. Why no t30 or t34 or t32? I do believe the t32 actually predated the t29 as far as trials go. And no m12?
