  • I thought I do more of a casual story time on how I got to where I am today, as a Tax Manager at a Big 4 (requested by one of you!).
Everyone's career path is going to look different, based on what they prioritized. In my case, I talk about starting from high school, my dilemma with choosing the right career. Then I talk about getting into business school, specializing in accounting in university, taking the right courses for the CPA program, going through recruit, getting an internship, starting work, studying for the CPA exam, and the subsequent opportunities that followed.
I have always prioritized growing both professionally and personally during the past 6/7 years since I started my career. I'm always learning in my field of expertise and in personal development, as I believe it's important to have a healthy balance.

Hi! Can you make a video going in depth of the PEP Program? Like personal stories, struggles/challenges, things you wish you knew, resources you found helpful, how you scheduled your modules, and how you balanced your life? Also curious about the 30 month required experience, considering vacation leave of absence.

Hello! I am a recent graduate and the HR asked me if I was interested in doing Transfer Pricing rather than direct tax compliance. Would like to ask for your opinion in terms of career prospects and exit opportunities for Transfer Pricing, do you think TP is too niche to start as an fresh grad? Thanks!:)

I am currently a senior accountant, non audit in an international mid-tier accounting firm. I would transfer to domestic tax after I finish CPA and go into CICA In Depth Tax. Any recommendations on how to do this or should I move into the Big4 to continue this path?

Thanks so much for sharing! It really helps young professionals like me who is going to land a career in accounting. But I am also curious about is there other career paths after spending 3-5 years in tax at big 4? Will it be possible to transfer to consulting, banking or industry then?

I’m going into big 4 tax mid next year. East coast area. I don’t have an internship or anything, just getting a masters in accounting. Would this put me at a disadvantage if I don’t have an internship? Just scared of going into the job not knowing anything about tax

Hi! I cleared my CA(CPA) equivalent in India and joined a software company's finance department where i am responsible for preparation of financials for its fellow companies across globe and coordinate the audit! I am working here for 2 years post qualification and figured i didn't like this! Can i shift to tax now in a big4? How do i go about it and how to find vacancies in big4 since not all vacancy is posted in public!

Hi..I'm persuing ca and was in one of the big 4s as an article (statutory audit). Getting into big 4s in your preferred department needs 1. Some related work experience (helps a lot in application screening) 2. ( A bit more important that the first one) , reference.
For the first one, since you already have spent a few years in the corporate, I'm assuming you must have handled the taxes as well but in case you haven't try looking for a mid size/small firm that is involved in your preferred field of taxation ( direct/indirect)I'm saying coz even in direct tax they have seperate departments for international tax/local taxation/advisory. Getting in a smaller firm will be easier for you since you are experienced, you may work there for a year or so and then apply to your preferred big 4
      2. As for the reference try getting in touch with your batchments/colleagues who maybe working there. Many of my friends who worked in audit are in tax mostly coz their application went through a reference.helps a ton.
In case you have no reference but are comfortable moving cities, try looking for a big 4 office in a smaller city, generally since there staff is much lesser in number, your chances of getting selected through a direct interview are much higher.( I worked in a smaller city) but once you are in, taking a transfer to a bigger office becomes much easier.
Try for the big 8 as well such as RSM etc, or any bigger firm on a national level. That also creates a good impact on the resume. Hope it helps. :)
