  • Today’s episode got a little heated, but for good reason! We are talking about raising good humans and sharing some things we believe are important to instill in our kids. I’m sure all parents can relate that raising a good human is something we all want to do, but it takes time, energy and effort to get there! Andrew’s talking about how to love your child and how discipline is love and Andrew is saying that in and of itself is unconditional love but it’s only an EXAMPLE of unconditional love haha. Love you guys - but yes to this whole pod ❤️❤️👏🏼

A child's safety IS unconditional love.........jumping in the water alone and telling them not to do that is unconditional love and safety

Unconditional love is great but that isn't the same as tolerating/excusing away things are wrong. Fine line. Sometimes Unconditional love looks like tough love, too. Unconditional love sometimes means loving them enough to stop them from heading down a destructive path.

I was taught that little ears, mouths and eyes will always repeat what the see and hear, so always chose wisely around them what your actions are in front of them. Also, one of two little words to say is the hardest to say to someone "I'm sorry" and the second one is "I love you' in the fashion of truly meaning it not just saying it. Actions will always outweigh choice of my actions in how I show it and in what content I do it in. Blessings and Love!

This is actually one of the few episodes where I passionately side with Shawn over Andrew on having expectations for you kid discussion.

This was great and I hope you do another one like it using specific situations. Unconditional love is the most important but children need boundaries too. I love what Shawn said about who they surround themselves with. As children get older this is so important because as they grow you want them to be able to make the right decisions on their own, independent of their friends. You are both great parents!!

I'm a 66 year old woman so a grandma I enjoy listening to you guys a young couple starting out life and having kids it's enjoyable and what's enjoyable is that you share with others to let them know what they're getting into what's going to happen how it's going to be and I love that. I sent you my email address to receive your letter you said you were putting out but I never got it and I guess I did something wrong I'm old and sometimes it doesn't work for me well you guys take care of those babies and love them stay Who You Are. I will tell you I think what makes a good human is knowing that they would help someone if they saw they needed it and they would be courteous and they would be kind and thoughtful things and compassionate these are the things that were losing in this world of . They would start out life on a high note but now this is just my opinion.

Me and my spouse argue the SAME point all the time. Men and Women are different!! Our brains explain and process things differently. Nature. Andrew is explaining how he SHOWS unconditional love is different. That is natural. Great talk!

    Without a doubt:
    1. Healthy boundaries
    2. Open communication
    3. Comfortable talking about feelings in a honest way
    4. Internal security and ability to validate oneself/strong self worth
    5. Consciousness and an ability to self reflect
    6. It is okay to say No, and to be assertive. Being assertive is not the same as being unkind.
    7. Listener who listens to understand and be interested, asks empowered questions, and is eager to learn
    8. When mistakes are made, owns them and uses them as opportunities to learn.
    9. Sincere empathy, and authenticity
    10. Appreciation/gratitude - has a sense of what they have already, which reduces nees to look outside thenselves for fulfillment because they are already full and whole

That was intense! Sometimes we overthink and that may not be healthy for our children just do the best you can do and have a go with the flow attitude they defiantly learn by our words and actions so be mindful.
You can do everything right and still your children will be who they’re supposed to be and it might not be how you envisioned 🤷‍♀️

All three of my children, (ages 32, 30 & 17) does something now or how has done something that has been shocking to me. For an example, my 17 year old says she is transgender. She is the sweetest, intelligent and a great human. It hurts me so much she feels this way. I have expressed my concern and reservations but conveyed no matter what I still love her. It has been so difficult. It hurts so much. Behind closed doors my husband and I pray for her to never actually change her sex. However, no matter what again I will always love the essence of her. It can hurt and be painful for you though. Children do follow you like sponges. I cringe so much when I see anything negative in my children and know they learned that quality from me. I can not emphasize enough to watch every single thing you do especially communicating with your spouse, praising God, how you treat yourself and how you feel.

  • @hendrikeisertbender3949

We will always unconditionally love our children, but I believe that we don‘t love all of their behaviours, choices or values, but we will love and respect them.

  • @godmom2
    @godmom2 Před 2 měsíci

Unconditional love is loving someone no matter what they do/say. That doesn't mean you agree or condone the behavior. Hate the sin, love the sinner. We all do things that God doesn't approve of, but He still loves us. We can be Christ-like to our children (even if they are grown adults) and still show them love while letting them know we don't approve of their behavior/actions/words.

I don’t necessarily think Andrew saying things like drew is a leader etc is bad or conditional love or setting expectations, leadership is also a personality trait and definitely something that can be seen in a 3 year old especially with a younger sibling! Some people simply aren’t made to be great leaders and that’s 110% okay but some people also are and I don’t find anything wrong with empowering someone and encouraging someone who has those skills and that kind of personality to use those traits to be and do good things in the world!

Did they say what if Drew became a Mormon? They said they were both raised Christian and then acted as if mormonism conflicted with that. The Mormon church is called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Being a Mormon in no way conflicts with Christianity but is a church who believes in Jesus Christ as the Savior. That was strange. I don't know what they were trying to say.

Was just an example of no matter what their children believe they will love them unconditionally even if they may not agree with it. It was an example only. Nothing against the Mormon religion.

Andrew, unconditional love, is GOD LOVE Period. He created humans, and as a father he loves us, soo much so that even through every wrong decision... throughout history, he makes a way to love on us... he makes a way for the best of ourselves to come upon us....to be who we are... unconditional love means allowing a human to grow in a way that wants to choose their parent. Because it is so fulfilling to be the family that you are.. Just like the relationship in Christ.... as Christians we chose unconditional love, we didn't choose conditional love.... if we did then his sacrifice meant nothing. Love the podcast, and you both, and I truley relate to Shawn's POV. ❤️❤️

Also why do you have a document??? They are kids.....literally like babies... if it's for you to establish healthy habits, to show them the healthy way to go... cool. If it's your expectations? not cool. Woah. I wasn't expecting that at all

Thanks for all you do to uplift and inspire people to be good humans! One tiny clarification (and I totally understand it was a hypothetical situation). You intentionally or unintentionally implied that Mormons are not Christian. We 100% are Christian. 😊 Keep up the fight for goodness! ❤️
