Sky still don't get it. They've called Chelsea "Billionaire blue bottlers", lambasted them over how much players have cost (without acknowledging sales). they've said they spent "scattergun" and now say Enzo, the bright young star of the last World Cup is hampering the team while not understanding the guy has a hernia problem. Suddenly they say Chelsea have " turned the corner". The word to describe those pundits at Sky has to be "hypocrites".

If you have watched Chelsea this season, it's clear that they play better with caicedo and Gallagher in a pivot and Palmer in the 10 than when Enzo is forced in next to caicedo and Gallagher plays the 10. Caicedo is going nowhere, Conor is the first name on the team sheet, and Enzo just hasn't been good enough. I just can't see a spot in the lineup for Enzo

The thing is, there are two competing narratives when it comes to Chelsea’s midfield - and neither one is accurate.
The poch out/Gallagher haters argument is that this is all a symptom of bad set up from Poch and that if Enzo was playing in place of Gallagher now (with Cucurella inverting) he would be great.
What’s wrong with that is that Cucurella wouldn’t be inverting with Enzo in there - the only reason Cucurella is in there is because we have no one else to play there right now and it would be robbing Peter to pay Paul to move Palmer or Gallagher.
Enzo cant do what Gallagher does so you can’t straight swap the two and have it work like it’s working now - Enzo has to play next to Caicedo with Gallagher ahead which means Cucurella is back to his day job.
The other side says we are better without enzo, enzo has been poor and whenever he plays we get overrun in midfield and the Cucurella experiment shows how much better Caicedo is with someone who is reliable next to him.
That all is true - but the reason Enzo can’t move is his groin and hernia issues. He has been playing with pain killing injections all season and was basically sacrificing his reputation in order to not also join the injury list.
In the first quarter of this season when he was fit, he was bossing midfield and performing really well and it was Caicedo who was the weak link at that stage.
So basically, the problem IS Enzo - but he’s only a problem when only partially fit. Once properly injury free next season, he most likely will be good again.

Reaching any conclusion on Enzo after an injury riddled season is pure comedy and utter silliness. This narrative is because the Sky pundit possibly feels like selling Enzo protects Gallagher. They are 2 different types of midfielders in a squad that hopes to play 60+ games per season. Sky's shortsightedness is mostly borne out of protective bias. Besides selling Enzo (at a loss) actually hurts FSR and makes it even less likely to hold onto Gallagher. Think😌

People are only saying now that Chelsea have ‘turned a corner’ but I’ve been saying this for almost three months. I’m not even a Chelsea fan, but even I can see that since the Wolves defeat at the start of February, Chelsea are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 games in the Premier League - winning six, drawing five and losing just once. They’ve been improving for a while and as far as I was concerned it was always just a matter of time under Pochettino.
His teams generally tend to follow this pattern. He doesn’t always come in and make a flying start, because he’s a tactical coach not an impact coach. A similar thing happened under Spurs when he joined - after the first few months some fans were calling for his head but he eventually found his best team and the best system to use, and after that they grew and developed exponentially.
Even at PSG his side were far better in his second season and I have no doubt they’d have kept getting better and better had they given him another year. And now at Chelsea, after half a season of trial-and-error, and trying to unify a squad that’s largely made up of young players who were only signed in the last year or two, his side are starting to look like a really strong unit with bags of potential. They still have their cracks but I think they’ll only get better from here on out - and I really wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea were in the mix in the top-4 battle next season.

The problem is seems to be Enzo caicedo but it's not, in reality its poch, how can you for much of a season see them two struggling and not alter it? Ppl talk about cucu stepping into midfield but all he is doing is doing is adding another body in midfield a simple and obvious thing any manager worth his salt should have been doing if their midfield two is being overrun by sheer numbers and you didn't need an underlapping fb to accomplish it, just a switch to a 4-3-3 or not having Gallagher play as a headless chicken trying to get the ball off opp cb but instead using his energy to control mid which then allows the team to control games and then you see the best of Enzo because then he gets to dictate play with his passing

Time is just what this team needs. Time with each other and time with Poch. Klopp's gegen-pressing didn't set in instantly nor did Pep's tiki taka. No manager will do any better with this team. It's just the growing pains of a young squad. Tactics may not be visible in every game, no consistency, chemistry and cohesion missing etc. We forget that even the best of players need to be settled not only on the field but off it too. New players, new environments and new surroundings. A new culture and homestead, add to the mix that the majority are youngsters too makes it difficult to adapt immediately. Sure, people will always point to the amount spent and mention that it should be relative to the success but this is a unique scenario. Boehly and co. not only invested in the first team but largely the potential second team which are either out on loan youngsters (Datro Fofana, Gabriel, Santos, Washington, Hutchinson etc.) or backups (Cucurella, Petrovic, Lavia, Ugochukwu, Chukwuemeka etc.). They tried to condense five years worth of work, scouting and development into a short space of time. Every time we sack a manager the whole process resets, this is essentially our first year under Poch, including different players once again. Projects like these need time to breathe. Sadly us football fans are impatient. Klopp, Pep and Arteta all had mediocre first seasons in charge with a somewhat more stable group of players and backroom operations than what we have had for the past couple of years. We probably have the most experienced and emotionally adept coach to deal with this core. No other manager will have the patience to handle this group as well as Poch has, period. Most coaches would constantly complain about the inexperience, scrap the project, start again with new players and thus the cycle continues yet Poch is dealing with it well enough. He understands that it's a process. Forget comparing him to his Spurs days, we're a basket case of a club at the moment where even the most tactically astute would suffer. The team speak highly of his man management. For a squad of this size, it's commendable that he's held the team together as well as maintain morale throughout. No other coach would deal with a young group and still give the likes of Golding, Gilchrist, Matos and Castledine a chance. Added to his push to build an English core of James, Chilwell, Colwill, Palmer and he's constant appreciation of Gallagher, he is probably the one person at the club who is striving to maintain Chelsea's recent traditions. Give this team and coach three years, same spine of players, no major overhauls then we can truly assess what we have.

Chelsea do look much better when Enzo is not playing. Slows the game down way too much, holds onto the ball unnecessarily long, killing off possibilities of a counter attack or a quick, sharp buildup play, incapable of making those intelligent late runs into the box to take a shot at goal, has horrible shooting and incapable of playing that inch perfect long pass up the field or across the field to convert defense into attack.
