@@michigunsanta8680 I was tough. Spent my whole playing career calling myself a 🤬 but in retrospect I was very tough, physically and mentally. Knock me down im going to get back up and bite your kneecap the next play. Then take another hunk out of you. By the 4th quarter I was the one still standing. My very first game of varsity football I was getting planted by the same player every kickoff. So finally I decided to bite a knee cap and he went tumbling over me. Flags came in from all directions, got booed by an entire town of 3k, and I was benched the following week. It was awesome.

For me going for it on 4th is a momentum based decision. You’re taking a chance but they have the personnel to take that chance in most situations.

I have to admit. I was starting to doubt Campbell after they went 1-6 in 2022. Then the team finally put it all together. Now look at where the Lions are, a contender. Players want to be a part of this team. I was wrong. Campbell is a leader and the very thing this team needs to succeed. He makes mistakes. We all do.

@@LionsVillainSquad No, not so much. I was willing to give the Lions time to change after the Quintricia disaster. But in year 2 I felt they should be better than 1-6. I could see they had a better team, it wasn't getting results. To me I felt that was on the coach as much as the team. But I have to give Campbell and Holmes credit, they figured it out and got results. I am even thinking about the Lions as a Superbowl possibility. Other than in the early 90's I never ever thought the Lions were good enough to make that game. I give Dan and Brad all the benefit of the doubt now. If it isn't working, I am willing to let it play out.

@@LionsVillainSquad True! I didn't love that either. But as a Lions fan... I was numb to it by that point. I wasn't expecting much that first year and I knew it was a rebuild. 3-13-1 followed by 1-6 was where I was saying "OK, this isn't happening, Is it the coach?" I was wrong, but after 45+ years of watching the Lions fail, can you understand why I felt that way? I loved the finish especially the win in GB. Then I knew Campbell was the right coach. He still makes mistakes, he can be better.

The 4th down attempts are more strategic than they are given credit for, it’s not just about aggression and toughness. Mark kind of hits on it a little here, but when you’ve established a 4th down mentality in not only your offense, but in the opposing defense, it allows more flexibility in your play calling ability, and you see the Lions do this all the time. For example, it’s a well established thing in the league that on 3rd and long you throw the ball, and the defense blitzes to put pressure on your QB, how many times have we seen a blitz get blown up by a 3rd down running play to the edges, get to 4th and short, then either run or play action to get the short yardage for a conversion. This means that defenses can’t depend on normal down structure to scheme against, they don’t know what we are going to do on any given down. And having a 60+ yard FG kicker now only adds to this mystery…
The recipe should be easy now, on 4th and short, we go for it, 4th and long in FG range, we take the points. Or who knows, maybe we will just punt it on 4th and pass on 3rd, or maybe we will fake punt it… the point is, the defense doesn’t have a clue either…

Dan Campbell added more points for his team than any coach last year ppl don’t understand how hard it is to stop an average offensive team 4 times in a town a top 3 offense it’s near impossible especially with the new tackling rules that are being enforced this season

It is what it is. This is how we are gonna have to do it. It's not gonna be easy,it's gonna rip our heart out to get it done, but that is OUR team. It's the Detroit Lion way. If you have been a Lions fans for 20+ years, let's say, what did you expect?
We are not gonna get a pretty Cinderella superbowl. We are gonna get a Lions SB,and it's gonna be gut wrenching and it's gonna take a crazy bounce and miraculous play for us to win. It's just how it is. I hate some of the play calls and going for it on 4th and not kicking fg but that's the only way this team and this style can win it all. Im still pissed when he doesn't kick the FG in the 1st Q on our 1sr possession and we get a TD, its not the correct call,we get in to the end of games all the time that 3 pts would have changed atleast 5 games last year. Hes still gonna keep doing what he does and F-it ,hes our coach so i will scream and yell but i still back MCDC

Doesn't Campbell PREACH we NEED ALL 3 phases of the game to win. We'll he ties the specials teams hands because we do have a great punter, we did only miss 2 fgs last year and Badgley didn't miss a fg. Everyone says he Campbell doesn't trust Badgley but you trust him to kick a 54 yarder that basically won us the game. Last point in the regular we play another week in playoffs you lose you go home take the points. I watched the KC vs Bills and Reid tool the points every point matters

The Lions has a better defense now. It’s ok to punt and let the defense get the ball back. Also let’s be aggressive in the regular season and slow it down in the playoffs because it’s win or go home. Play it smart and live to see another game in the playoffs!

Changing the way you play in the playoffs when you were successful in what you did in the regular season is a good way to lose. They didn’t lose in the playoffs because they went for 4th down. Do you easily forget they went for a 4th down in the 2nd quarter against the Rams, and got a TD? They might have lost that game if they kicked the FG there.

But the offense should be sparkling, barring injuries.
And yes, head coach Campbell needs to be better aggressively selective!

Also, I’m not totally sold on her offense in critical situations. Note last year‘s NFC championship game.
    We scored once!

Listen Dan's aggressiveness on 4th downs was a direct cause of lack of talent. As he gains more and more talent will change in only the need to. He figured what do we have to lose? And wanting his squad to realize he believes in them. 1-4 were coming for you is the mindset. And schlereths take on 4th takes pressure off 3rd down is absolutely spot on. Good take.
