Excellent advise Matt , my son has been sent a blast email from a college in regards to attend a camp. I think is nothing but a money grab.

We will probably be receiving camp emails years after my daughter graduates. In my daughter's experience she received texts asking her if she could take a call but never was emailed directly, unless it was a reply to email she sent. Funny how much things changed, in the 80s we got actual letters from college coaches.

Yea I pitched in highschool and also during my youth years as well and at age 13 I started playing travel ball and there is where I was fortunate to play for coaches that played pro or college. So I learned a lot from those coaches and to this very day at 45 years old my baseball knowledge is still rich. But at the end of my junior year in highschool I went to a tryout that mlb was putting on at Emory University in Atlanta Georgia. So I went to it and you had pro scouts there from different organizations and they told us that if they are interested in you then they would give you a call. Well I got the call and at that time the Florida Marlins which now is the Miami Marlins but they were interested in me. But at that time I was playing fall ball with my highschool team but I think the Marlins wanted to see me pitch again but I don't think I could because I was playing for my highschool team. So one time I was playing fall ball for a team out of Atlanta as well and there was a scout from the Florida Marlins that was at the game that I was pitching at. So he wanted to come do a side session with me on the baseball field at my highschool and so I did it. But after it was over I will never forget what he said to me he said be careful what you wish for because you might just get it. So I'm thinking after he said that to me that I might have a shot at the pros but during my senior year in highschool I got cut from my highschool team and it devastated me because I knew that there would be scouts at the game and I could show what I can do. So after highschool was over I thought that I wanted to play college baseball and so I went to a school called Andrew college and I think it's close to the Florida border. So I went to the school and toured the campus and met a player that I believe that was being drafted by the Atlanta Braves I can't think of his name. But I was wanting to go to school there to do video production but see my years in school I was a special ed student and so I think the school didn't have the teachers or instructors that I needed. But my dream kind of fell apart after that and I tried to play after the age of 18 but my velocity started to fade and I had a hard time getting anyone out. So yea like he said just because there is a major league team or a college team that might be interested in you doesn't mean that you will play in the big leagues or college. See I never had a backup plan just in case baseball didn't work out and looking back I wish I did. So just have a backup plan just in case baseball doesn't work out for you

If you can unsubscribe from the email, you're not being recruited.

I was invited to second tryout back when I was 19 with Tampa Bay . Of course I didn't go because I wasn't thinking. But if they want to look at you a "second time" they are getting serious. A contract is the only real commitment however.

Matt, I have a question. I understand there is a thing called perceived velocity. But what are the factors that contribute to that? I have seen a lot of guys who appear to be throwing very hard but don’t show well on the radar gun. On the other hand. I’ve seen many guys who appear to throw much slower than the people mentioned above but show much better on the radar gun.

Spin rate, arm angle, delivery, stride length of the pitcher, a bunch of factors. A pitcher with a long stride for example will usually have higher perceived velocity since they release the ball closer to the plate.

Hey Matt! I'm trying to get on my JV baseball team. I am going into my sophomore year and wasn't able to play freshman year due to injury. With my injury and the whole Covid thing I haven't played much and am a bit rusty. I've been working out doing drills at home. I missed the meeting they had for people who wanted to be on the JV team so I don't know if they are practicing during the summer or not. I also got a job and I work 3 days a week. What should I do?

I thought I was getting recruited to Ole Miss when they sent me an email to come to their camp. Even though I topped at 67, I’m pretty sure they still want me…

I have a 9th grader who has a NCSA page. If he gets a coach that follows him on NCSA, is he being recruited?

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  Před 2 lety

Not necessarily, but could. My guess is the coach wants to at least follow the player and track their progress.

Can you please do a video on drug and alcohol use and abuse in MLB? I don't ask for names, just, is it prevalent? Are there players on their way out of the league that have nothing to lose and decide to use, sell or abuse drugs? Thanks, sir for your videos.

Hey Matt, my son was recruited by a number of D1 schools and has committed already. He received a ‘snail mail’ letter from a big time school out-of-the-blue asking him to apply to the school. There was no other contact. What do you think that was about?

  • @grahammarshall1199

Always try to land a phone call with the coach before you go to a camp. If there not willing to hop on a call they aren’t serious about you.

When I was 13 I was playing in a tournament and some random guy asked me if I was good. I was humble then and said yea I guess. He handed me his business card and it had a Red Sox logo on it and said you never know who’s watching. Had a horrible game.

      I sprained my ucl.
3 months later during summer ball I've been taking 4 ibuprofen before practice and games, does the trick ;)
      I player centerfield now though.
Dude i took it from got triggered and starting throwing as hard as he could at me during warmup catches from rightfield. I accidently threw one above his head, nothing he couldn't have caught. Dude didn't even try to get it. After that i just threw flyballs behind him so he would look like an idiot just letting them drop.
