This course pays homage to the “Grandfather” of American Golf, Charles Blair Macdonald. Nestled on the coastline of southern Oregon, it evokes traditional Scottish courses with wide sweeping fairways and wild undulating greens. Something about these course vlogs just desperately makes me want to go out and have a fun, relaxing day of golf.
He makes the game much more approachable. The fact that he doesnt get stressed over score or really even pay much attention to it helps to find the fun in the game and just loosen up.
Amazing how Erik will play 9 holes in Oregon, fly to Scotland for a golf date, then come back to play the back nine.

These Bandon videos have been at once a delight and a little bittersweet for me--my dad and I were supposed to go earlier this month but delayed the trip due to Covid. Can't wait to return. In the meantime, Rustic Canyon will have to satisfy my links cravings.

Erik another great vlog, thanks. Your comment on caddies, yes they take away your green reading etc, BUT, you can always shake your head yes and just do your own thing. Also the only links golf I play are on video games, otherwise I would start drinking!!!! Take care and be safe.

Just got back from Bandon. Great weather in January. If you haven't been, go. The practice facility and the Punch Bowl are epic. Thanks Eric for letting me relive it. Old Mac was my favorite but by far my worst score. Butt kicked. No Cap!
Great video! Played Old Mac a few years ago and just played Sheep Ranch last week. Almost holed out for eagle on number 1 at Sheep ranch, only good hole I had that day though, in really tough winds lol.
My wife surprised me for my birthday in Feb with a round at Old Mac. I'm a horrid golfer (avg 97), but we gave it a go. Pretty course, not for the faint of heart. Wind was blowing the flag halfway down at one point, horizontal rain. The golfers we were paired with made an excuse to abandon us after the first hole (and we were glad they did cuz we were hacking it up from the start.) We couldn't navigate where to go and I twice aimed for the wrong hole before figuring it out. Minimal signage and no cart paths to guide you. The bunkers there are insanely deep at times (at least one hole had stairs to get down). I remember being in one bunker, staring into a literal wall on the green side that was buttressed with railroad ties. You could see balls plugged between them. Most of the players we could see eventually quit due to the weather, but my wife and I stuck it out and it eventually cleared and we really enjoyed the last 5 holes, just taking our time, no more players pressing us from behind. I think I got one par all day. Too spendy, too elite for my level of play, but we checked it off the bucket list. I'm sure better players would love the course.

I am so happy I never had the bad habit of chewing on my tee. First, it looks incredibly douchy and second its actually pretty gross if you think about all the reclaimed water on golf courses.
I can't wait to go visit this place. Sand valley looks as good if not better. Hard to be the ocean though.
So cool. Played it twice, very fun course. My favorite of the group is Bandon Trails, just because of the change of scenery from front 9 to back 9. I havent gotten to play Ranch yet though. Great content!

If it makes you feel any better, our caddie said he’s never seen anyone play the 10/11/12 stretch under par from any tees. This guy was an Aussie pro for quite a few years and plays with some serious sticks. Those holes are just brutal.

Erik, what lens do you keep on the course vlog camera? I'm just starting out and the 135 to pin on #11 looks massive! Much farther than it looks on the range
I usually ask for a "B" caddy at a course I don't know. Usually just means a guy who'll carry your bag and pretty much ignore you otherwise, lol. But they know the lines off the tee...good enough
Not a huge golfer, but do you think it's possible on your lag putts you are pulling up a hair early and not contacting the ball low and flush? Noticed it on the 18th. Might just be Bandon Dunes greens purely being slow though. Love the series 👌

The only real problems with Bandon is that for us east-coasters (absent a pandemic) it's easier to get to Scotland and might be cheaper.

I did Bandon without a caddy and didn’t feel like I missed out.
The greens looked slow and hairy, hard to make putts when you have to smash 10 footers. You will break 80 soon, I believe.

Me: Pulls jacket out of golf bag and proceeds to find the nearest ironing board. Erik: Pulls light sweater out of bag as if he has a personal dry cleaner inside provided by Jones. He proceeds to walk off the back 9 onto a golf runway show to model said light sweater. Not jealous...just sayin
In hindsight, this was a good reminder that Old Mac was actually my least favorite course at Bandon. Holes aren’t as memorable as the other 3 courses that I played. Not bad, but 8.5/10.
