Last night I dreamt I was a Soros DA who suddenly realized that the point of having and enforcing laws is not to end all crime forever, but to minimize the impact on society it has as an ineradicable component of the human condition.
I was immediately hit by a crushing sense of guilt for the trauma and pain I've gratuitously inflicted on the law-abiding public even as I sneered down at them in press conferences, instead of protecting them like I was supposed to. I also realized I would no longer be able to deliberately misuse that Einstein quote in the wrong context anymore.
