      The best part is the movie didn't just act like the first movie doesn't exists. It's a true sequel that just expands on the original idea. Dude was just upset that new characters were introduced? But these new emotions make sense to not have as a kid or at least not have them be a huge part. At the end of the sequel the end scene shows her dad has Anxiety still, he was just hidden and didn't have a dedicated seat. This is why people need to wait until they've experienced something to judge.

      Well, a reasonable claim could be that some of these emotions are not actually present in the mines of others at the time. My evidence from the first movie is that Riley runs away from home and doesn't answer her parents' phone calls. This leads to some anxiety and at the same time anxiety among the parents, but we do not see that it has not previously been shown in the minds of the parents themselves. While you could argue that it's still a foregone conclusion if the new emotions shown in Inside Out 2 still exist in the first film, the father's anxiety really comes out of nowhere when something goes wrong, so it could be an act , which the new emotions come when something happens.
      But long story short, since it's just a movie, I don't even know¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    1. I don't think they stop existing when we mature, it's more like we can control them better.

    Maybe Riley's parents learned to suppress their other emotions? I mean, most parents would want to suppress their emotions like anxiety or envy because they fear that showing these kinds of emotions in front of their children might result in them thinking that they made a mistake or they're the reason why their parents are unhappy.

  • @lazylexy2123
    @lazylexy2123 Před 2 měsíci +1826

    There's a simple explanation for this.
    The new emotions introduced in the second movie weren't relevant to the plot of the first movie, so to fully design and animate them (and hire voice actors) for a few minor scenes in the heads of the supporting and tertiary characters would be a waste of time and resources.
    So it's safe to assume that they are present in the heads of the other characters, just out of shot.

    • @paradoxine6287
      @paradoxine6287 Před 2 měsíci +106

      Exactly. Or they could not be there because they are temporary. Adults may lose those new emotions, but hey. I get anxiety and I'm an adult, so I can say it depends on the person.

    • @lazylexy2123
      @lazylexy2123 Před 2 měsíci +59

      @@paradoxine6287 I wouldn't even say that they're temporary. All emotions exist inside everyone, it's the person's personality that determines which emotions take front and centre, and which get sidelined.
      The evidence is in the first Movie. With Joy being the centre stage of Riley's mind, Sadness being centre stage of the Mother's mind, and Anger being centre stage of the Dad's mind. All 3 of them had all 5 emotions (relevant to the first movie), but it was clear which ones were more dominant in their minds.
      Anyone can experience Anxiety, Ennui, Embarrassment, or Envy... It just takes a very specific situation for it to occur.
      Riley is young and has just started a new life in San Fran, so Anxiety is bound to set in, but for the parents, they've probably moved places several times in their life, so Anxiety will barely be a problem in this kind of situation.

    • @the_indecisiveartist_5850

    It's not just that we explicitly see like a dozen people's minds and they ALL have the core five in the original movie - it's also like we're pretending the climax of the first movie literally didn't exist.
    The ENTIRE POINT of the first movie is that Riley, as a child, thinks and feels in simple terms, and her "default" state is pure joy. She essentially sees the other emotions, especially Sadness, as obstacles in the way of Joy, or brief stepping stones back to the default of Joy (hence why Joy is so controlling.)
    The end of the film is Riley maturing and feeling and understanding more complex emotions - represented my memories that are no longer a single simple color, but combinations of colors. She accepts not only that she can have Core Memories other than Joyful ones, but that some memories can be more than one emotion.
    Would all these "new" emotions introduced in the 2nd film not fall under the umbrella of these complex combinations of emotions?? Fear and anxiety? Disgust and envy? Sadness and Ennui?

That’s why we don’t see them early on, as a kid, everything seems magical and easy, once we get older, these complex emotions hit us and we don’t know how to handle it. That’s where the anxiety, embarrassment, and the others come in. Once you’re an adult, you’re more than likely to not experience these that strongly, as you’ve worked it out, but as a teenager you don’t know that.
    Edit: for clarification, I did indeed experience envy and embarrassment and boredom, but it wasn’t that present until I was in my teen years. My childhood was for the most part really good, I had little to no trauma until I reached 12-13 years old. She has no knowledge of other emotions when she's young so she doesn't picture them until she develops them herself.

    For everyone saying that these are teenage emotions and that they'll fade away or whatever when she gets older, you do realise that adults can be embaressed. Adults can get anxious. They don't just lose the ability to feel these emotions and you don't just suddenly gain them when you turn 12 either. Hell, I remember being embaressed by things way before then. What happened is that, for whatever reason, they desperately wanted anxiety to be its own character. Pretty much all of the new emotions are just subsets of the existing ones. The ending of inside out 1 showed that life is often a mix of emotions. That was the whole point. Riley's first mixed memory was of happiness and saddness, the two emotions that are the most opposite. And then we see that many of her new core memories are mixed of emotions. What makes infinitely more sence is her gaining new personality islands, not new fucking emotions.

    Yeah, Disney and Pixar have been writing sequels that throw out the point of the first movie for years. Frozen 1 was about how Elsa belonged in Arendelle even though she had ice powers. Frozen 2 was about how she didn't belong in Arendelle. Wreck it Ralph was all, "Don't go turbo! Stay in your game!" and the sequel was like, "If Vanellope wants to leave her game, you have to let her go."

      i agree with you ralph breaks the internet was a train wreck but elsa has always been different from the rest of her kingdom not just because of her powers. does it not make sense to make a sequel exploring her purpose and more importantly asking the big question: why the hell does she have ice powers??

      @@rakano3733 that is the message of the film and i guess you can go outside your game buts heavily discouraged besides at the end of the first movie venelope is so happy and the reason they aren’t in the second is just the very generic “oh it’s getting boring” it’s lazy and it doesn’t make sense pac-man has been doing this for forty years and he doesn’t complain. venelope leaving is almost like ralph leaving she’s the most popular racer sure her game can function without her but it can loose player base with her gone risking the game being unplugged.

    Riley is a new teen in this movie. Idk if you remember, but new teens have CRAZY emotions and hormones. Adults tend to have those emotions in check and the main five would be the emotions we saw everyone else have. It makes sense lmao but also, I'm sure they'll explain it in the movie. Let's save our issues for when the movie actually comes out lmao

      The thing is they don't have new emotions. Hormones cause the emotions that are already there to be more intense, which then makes it show more obviously that they are still children (ie operating with limited experience in processing these emotions, and being less affected by their intensity).
