This rugged pouch, used to stow an entire Basha set has changed the way I use the Bergen for recreational stealth camping. The pouch has freed up space in the pack, balances the load, and can even be mounted on a webbing order.

Great space saving options, the modern approach of trying to stow every piece of kit inside a pack, doesn't work for me. Roll on the spring camps...bex

handy little pouches ... biggest plus is that it removes items from being carried internally so free's up some extra space.

I use the space yo accommodate extra rations, allowing a longer trip or stay outs. My 200 quid trekking pack needs to be packed internally, (no side pockets) only base straps. Just need a nylon MTP rain cover that was missing with this cadet bergen....bex

bex bugoutsurvivor ... I bought 2 soft side molle pouches by some firm called viper to go on my Alice pack, I tried to go down the ‘sack’ route with everything inside the pack but keep ending up with external pouches. I have a plce Bergen (for over nighters) I stripped the zips and front pocket off, so haven’t given up on the idea completely. Lol

I found infantry 120 begens bomb proof, but heavy, not comfy or easy to carry. The internal space of this cadet bergen stows everything my 120 does. Also a smaller 50 cadet prevents over loading with unnecessary items. There is a saying in the British army called (KISS) which stands for, keep it simple stupid. I have adopted this KISS method now...bex

Nice. You gave me an idea. I have just bought a brand new Highlander Blackthorn 1 tent (in camo), this gives me an idea for storage on my Bergan as it came with a cover bag in MTP (or close to), so your vid gives me a possible way to stash it on my Bergan.

The basha stash (lumbar roll) has a long strap, that is meant to drop down between the bergen and the rocket pocket. I had the blackthorn before I had my Dutch bivvy. There are many options to use the lumber roll, think you would love its versatility. All the best...bex

Liking them bags especially the basha bag ,and dosent MTP camo go well in a British winter, and like you're NI Patrol pack ,been looking at them the one I've got a little small for a day pack it's a highlander skirmish 30L, the mat I use is highlander folding mat MTP ,quite good but you're kits looking pretty good bud

Love MTP in this environment. I have the 30L MTP patrol, but never found a use for it, too big for pocket carries, too small for kit carry. I now use my Bulldog lycan 55L but boy sooo heavy even empty. So the 50L ammo cadet in this video suits my old bones to a tee. Speaking of T, off for another brew.....All the best H....bex

    Hello! Bex,
The cammo matches the environment really well. It would probably be really good to watch birds or wildlife.
Do you see much wildlife in your forays into the woods, or does the scent from your coffee mean them giving you a wide birth?
I like the fallow deer and red squirrels, we still have pockets of the latter here that haven't been pushed out by the grey squirrel.
I find it nice to watch them.
Do your neighbours ever give you odd looks, or comments, when you go out dressed in your cammo, or do they just think you are off poaching again? 😊
    ATB Steven.

I see some of the most amazing wild life. Can't turn the camera on quick enough. However there are previous vids, including night camp videos, where I was able to film, deer, badgers, squirrels and foxes. Wish I had a DSLR with tele lenses, but don't make a penny from these videos as people assume I may do, so cant afford a 800 quid camera just yet.
A big stagg came to my camp as I was making coffee, it stopped about 20 meters away and stayed for about five minutes. I moved to grab my camera and it was gone....
The neighbours know what i do, the cadet training camp is not far from me. The rest just think Iv'e lost the plot.....Lol

There is a large field at the bottom of where I live. Most nights there are three or four foxes near the back of it close to undergrowth.
Tonight it was down to zero degrees centigrade and they were running all over the middle of the field, looking for food.
I think foxes are omnivorous and eat earth worms or anything they can find. They have even been known to eat McD's food, so they are not fussy eaters.
They are very wary of humans, not without reason I suppose, but it always gives me a thrill to see their eyes glowing red in the shadows as they wait for me to throw the food out that I have brought them.
One in particular seems more daring than the rest. No sooner does the food touch the ground, than he runs in, grabs it and runs off into the shelter of the bushes.
I disturbed a couple in a car parked under the trees one night. I didn't see them until I was almost on top of them.
Seems a bit lame to say, 'You carry on, I've just come to feed the foxes.' 😁
I don't know who was more embarrassed, them or me. 😁
In Northern Ireland it is called contraception, in England I believe they call it dogging. I'll leave it to the imagination of your subscribers from across the Pond... 😚

There is a link to the bash stash in the description box. The bed roll waterproofing was Ebay, can't find the link just now, but will send it ti you soon, The pack is a cadet bergen. We issue them to the young cadets for training. They are lighter and smaller than an infantry bergen, and not as robust.
Providing you've no plans to throw your pack from a moving truck, or from a CH47 helo, the cadet is just fine for civvy use. It was from ammo company. Not sure if they sell to non serving, but give them a try....bex

Another great video Bex 👍 one of my favourite channels you should have way more subs. What’s your thoughts on small wood burning hobo stoves? I don’t notice you using them much. It’s all pros and cons but they do have almost unlimited free fuel so in an extended bugout the stoves use wouldn’t be determined buy the amount of fuel you carry.

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  Před 4 lety +1

Thank you for your kind words . I have a Kelly wood water boiler come stove, for a doomsday kit bag. I have used cutlery drainers as wood stoves in the past. To be honest don't see the point of fire box stoves. I dig a trench about 6 inches deep, and narrower than the width of my cook pot, and the fire goes into the trench. When your finished just cover it over, Special forces technique.
On a tent or hammock camp, I love gas stoves, or hexi, purely for convenience. My lazy mans approach, to gathering tinder and preparing it, just gets on my t#ts Been there done that, but makes great video entertainment for youtube bushcrafters.
Next year will do a bush camp for you. Wool blanket next to fire, hobo stove, and eat from the land. (video may include eating bugs worms, and snails) my favorite staple for wilderness survival, don't even need to set a trap or shoot it....bex

bex bugoutsurvivor I’m not overly keen on the worms and snails 😂 for camping, hiking, bushcraft etc my favourite stove is the Swedish mess kit with trangia, gas is great but it let me down in minus temps once so I strayed away from it. I could have kept the canister warmer if only I knew that.
I do like the bushbox stoves tho keeps the fire contained, free fuel and efficient on the fuel use. But yeah a hole in the ground could pretty much do the Same lol
      Thanks for the reply 👍
