  • This is a LEGO My Own Construction (MOC) of Bilbo and Frodo's house - Bag End. I designed this house mostly on the existing LEGO set - 79003 An Unexpected Gathering. I built this set using 2 of the 79003 sets, heaps of food and bottles from eBay, and trees and mushrooms from the Mirkwood Elf polybag (30212) and the Frodo cooking corner polybag (30210).
I hope you like my design. If you have any questions please ask.
    Thanks for watching!

Can I just say, what a brilliant little re-design of the original. It has inspired me to have a go myself. And the extended version is truly epic. Great work.

Excellent indeed, your upsize is like going back in time to when the Lego sets were a larger overall design.
I felt that The Hobbit, like Lord Of The Rings suffered from what I call scene bloat, the efforts to drag out the story across multiple films was to me a bit obvious, that scene of the feast to me felt very long.
This MOC extension would do well at a Lego show I feel.

Yeah I though the Hobbit was extended way beyond the scope of the book. Although I didn't enjoy the movies anywhere near as much as the Lord of the Rings, I was happy to be back in Middle Earth nonetheless. My MOC has grown even bigger since this video. Great job on this! When I saw that that Lego released this set I was excited about it at first, but seeing that it only came with 1/3rd the Dwarves from that fantastic dinner scene, I was a bit disappointed, but as you said, Lego wants you to buy more sets to get more minifigs. That being said, if you did get all the minifigs there was the problem of room. It seems like you basically answered most of my questions already in regards to putting something like this together. I can see that with two of the 79003 sets and those two poly bags that you mentioned, in addition to some minor ebay purchases (for the food items), it can be done. The biggest thing now is trying to get all the Dwarves since these sets are no longer produced by Lego. Excellent work! I hope to eventually do something similar. Oh! Minor flub, but you said 12 dwarves in the video...there are actually 13.

Great MOC. I love all of the extra details you added, especially the pantry and the table full of food. One thing though, on eBay things can be overly expensive. Try a website called Bricklink, it's an online marketplace just for LEGO where you can get quite good deals on individual parts, minifigures and sets.

Thank you for your kind words :) Thanks for the advice RE Bricklink. I discovered Bricklink late last year and have been using it quite a bit. I expanded on the Bag End MOC quite a bit, the pics are here: flic.kr/s/aHsk5y2EWJ

    Great stuff seriously!!!
I was gonna improve my Lego original version to try to close the back of the house and I already encountered too much trouble...
    You're very good indeed!
How's the progress now tho since your photos a year ago?
Mind to share how you come up with the design?
Do u design using some software before going for eBay shopping?

+Schwarz Crepsley It's grown a bit since then, I have some photos here: flic.kr/p/q4zDYw, flic.kr/p/pM7kuW. I ended up buying a lot of parts on Bricklink. It's a lot cheaper than eBay. I just worked on the design as I went. I didn't have any instructions or anything like that. Just what looked good to me. Good luck with your project! Thanks for your nice comment :)

Wow! You really kept busy on this, huh? Great job! I like how you made the interior of Bag End even bigger. There is a nice living space in the front and an even larger area where Bilbo was writing in his book. I could see even enclosing the area where the supplies are to create a 'pantry'. But as is you did a really good job with this. Did you still get your bricks through Ebay? Or are you using Brick Link more now?

    • @S3ISOR
      @S3ISOR  Před 8 lety

jukingeo Hey mate, sorry I only just saw your comment :) I used eBay back when I made this MOC, but now I use Bricklink all the time. It's waaaay cheaper and easier once you get used to it. Thanks for your nice works on my MOC - I really loved building it and it's a standout in my collection. I also built a Barad-Dur tower based on someone else's design. It's on my Flickr. :)

That's fine, it was only a week actually. Yes, I found that out really fast, as well, that Brinklink was much cheaper in MOST circumstances. However, reading what you wrote, I found that Ebay does have its good points as well. When you mentioned that you used two 79003 sets, one with Minifigs and one without. I found that you usually can get a great deal on Ebay if you don't need the second set of minifigs and just need more of the same pieces. I also found out that sometimes you can score a deal on 'flop' Lego themes. Many times people put the entire theme up on Ebay hoping to sell it for a good price, but because the theme was a flop, there aren't many takers. But it is a great way to pick up some extra pieces which are in a particular style / color. What you did with your Bag End Moc is a simple solution to what I wanted to do. Out of the initial Hobbit sets, I wanted 79003 the most. I was waiting for it to go down in price, but it never did. Apparently it was a popular set at the time. Later on I wanted to get it so I could do something similar to what you have done, in which I could set up the entire feast scene with all 13 dwarves. But I realized that they were not going to all fit inside of the structure. I did think that I would have to get some extra pieces on Bricklink to pull it off, but even there, it would be a cost prohibitive project. This was until I found your MOC and read what you did. So I am heading down the same road. I saw the most recent version following the link you posted below and what you did is awesome! I like how you made the 'dining room' a whole separate area of Bag End and that it now has a proper foyer and writing area like in the movie. Great job! I am not going to copy your design exactly, but I am going to borrow heavily from it (if you don't mind). I will certainly give you credit for the idea, of course. But I am going to make my own changes as well. Oh I am going to have some fun with this too. I bought some extra food pieces on Ebay from a guy that was selling his Lego collection and my sons can't wait to get in on it too. I showed them your latest MOC and I could see their eyes almost left their sockets. So they are looking forward to this. You made Barad-Dur?!?! Can you post a link to it? I would love to see it. I know that Lego made the Orthanc Tower...but from what I gather, it wasn't very popular. I always said Lego concentrated on the WRONG tower. Granted it and it's interiors were featured more in the movie, but C'mon! Which tower is more cool? I would have loved to see what Lego would have come up with for the eye...which is the best part of the tower. Anyway, can't wait to see what you come up with next!

Edit: I just saw your Barad-Dur. Amazing! I love how you did the full style Black Gate and the Nazgul Fell Beasts. FAN-TAS-TIC! I see how you put the Orthanc tower next to it for a size comparison. It does have me also thinking that you used an Orthanc tower or two to make the Barad-Dur tower. I have to say that I would love to see some kind of tutorial for setting that up. While I was not a big fan of the Orthanc Tower, I certainly LOVE the Barad-Dur tower along with the Black Gate. Well done! BTW, you should post that here on YT,
