Way to do the Type R dirty by making their stock photos b&w 😂
Example of bias
The b&w interior killed me 😂
It's how they advertise their cars to look better than the opponent so people will buy their cars rather than Honda's
I like how they presented the Type R as it is. No ellaboration of its features.
i know it was comical, the guy even changed his tone of voice lol
GRC is a great car. But the Type R is just a monster car. Really well built. I have both and love them. Each has it's virtues.
Both? damn get a STI next!
If someone wanted to build a rally car which would you suggest?
@@fdss-el6lt gr all the way, in the end awd will win in the weather/ road conditions
@@fdss-el6lt None. There is no rallying on the streets. The GRC is an expensive car to just mess it up going mudding.

Toyota is makeing cool cars once again❤🔥
😎❤️
Dang Toyota! I bet this idea had to get run by a bunch of people in legal and marketing. Keep up the 🔥🔥🔥 content.
Thanks for the love. It means the world to us! 🥰
If your dealers didn't price gauge and mark up prices like crazy I would be more inclined to get one.
Agreed
I'm not in america to know the pain of the prices but... I agree.
Toyota this is not a fair comparison. I find it very misleading to have a black and white filter on the interior of the Type R (an area the GRC is lacking). One of the biggest marketing points for the GR Corolla is the free track day. Unfortunately, if you are a halfway talented driver, you can easily overheat the AWD in about 10 minutes of "hard" driving. Additionally, I have had the car detect a crash multiple times on track with proof on my CZcams channel (an issue that was supposed to be fixed way back when Car and Driver did the lightning lap with the Morizo back in Feb 2023 in a pre-production car). Between the issues above, brakes leaking fluid, and poor motor mounts, I feel Toyota marketing has falsely advertised the GRC as a "track capable" car when it is far from it in stock form. The GRC is an amazing car, but it belongs on a backroad or on an icy frozen lake not a racetrack. GRC OWNERS learn from my experience of 5+ track days with this vehicle and keep them on the street until Toyota has resolved some of these issues.
Facts
I see, thanks for telling your resolve. I didn't even know these problems existed. and AWD overheating in 10 mins?! that's crazy. Toyota is definitely hiding something.
@@aiztoh Yes if you have any decent pace on the racetrack it will overheat. I have tons of video from my last event and it would happen consistently 10-12min into an HPDE session. The only “solution” that worked for me was spending $1000 on a syvecs AWD controller which did not prevent the limp mode, but does prevent the car from killing all power to the rear (why does the OEM unit not do something like this??). Once I “fixed” the AWD I was noticing issues with soft motor mounts causing inconsistent shifting (not a good feeling when going 100mph through a corner). Sure you can upgrade the GRC to fix most of these issues, but now you are sacrificing on daily drivability. I will make a video to back all this up soon, but I’ve been a bit preoccupied with trading the GRC. I truly think the GRC is an awesome car, but it is over marketed as a track focused car (even has a track setting for the AWD!) when it clearly is not that. Is it better than an STI? Absolutely, but Elantra N and Type R seem to be more track focused out of the box.
@@ThomasTwomeyThe type R overheats on track as well. The Elantra N seems to be to only one actually ready for the track and actually comes with a warranty that covers track use.
@@CTF33 if you push for 20 min straight when it’s hot out yes. If you take a cooldown lap (like I do with GRC). It will be fine
Type R has the nicer interior.
They did Civic dirty with the grilles 💀💀
Test drove a GR Corolla and the Civic Type R. Purchased the Civic. The interior of the GRC is so cheap and cramped compared to the Civic. We only get snow here 2-3 days a year so no need for awd. The little 1.6L bogs down on a hard launch to where you can’t even fully take advantage of the awd. Hopefully Toyota can take some constructive criticism and make a decent refresh or maybe the 2nd gen of the GRC can fix what’s wrong with this one. Either way, I’m glad this competition exists in the market and it allows more people to have the opportunity to purchase a hot hatch.
Im sorry but I would get a 2024 Type R before a GR Corolla but tbh they are both very good and have their quirks but I do love the Type R a bit more
Got the GR , for the price I guess if I wanted a CTR I could have got one. I love that the GR is a true hatchback, is smaller and AWD. I guess is the rally look for me, I think the type R is a great car but not for me.
has the overheating issue to the AWD system been solved?
No. Trading my car this week.
@@ThomasTwomey Sad to hear. How often do you encounter this issue? Pushing it hard on the track? Daily driving? Mountain passes? Sorry, I'm just asking questions because I've been so excited for this car and want to get one, but a bit worry.

Manual for life! 🗿
I’ve had my gr corolla for over a year and would definitely trade for that blue circuit
But why black and white the CTRs red interior? I’m a big fan of their red seats but still think the grc has a really nice interior despite what others say. The black and white picture just seems like a cheap shot
I don’t mind the interior at all either. Love the stitching on the seat on my GRC, they also didn’t cheap out on the back seats..

Both are solid performers & it's just great overall that they're two of the few hot hatchbacks left available to buy new in N America. I daily drive a 2018 GT Sport hatchback which is no longer offered here in the States, but overseas it's known as the i30N. I recently just ordered from factory a 24 A4 Allroad Wagon in Prestige which forsure isn't as track focused as these, but it still performs great 0-60 in 5s, has more room than the hatchbacks which is what I'm needing, but it was tough cross shopping. If I were deciding to stay with a hatch instead of a wagon, I'd more than likely go with an Mk8 GolfR, you just can't beat it as a daily, but I'm just happy to see hot hatches in our market regardless.
I have a 94 supra turbo 6speed. The grc will be my next sports car from toyota. Please make more circuit edition. I cant find one anywhere!
I just wish there wasn't any lousy dealer markups on these awesome machines. I would buy one in a heartbeat.
I have the GRC and I'm really happy with it. What won me over the handling and balance. It's my daily and it does great doing errands as well as occasional spirited back roads driving.
Sounds like you're having a lot of fun together! Thanks for sharing the GR Corolla love! ❤️
Do dealerships still add $20k markup on both of these cars?
Honda and Toyota aren't ready to solve the problem with that.
All they care for is big sales but not rest enthusiasts are sad and left out
I have both and love both
GR Corolla 🔥🇯🇵
I was looking at both the GR Corolla and the Civic type R. Went with the GR Corolla for 2 main reasons, it’s much easier to find the GR Corolla for MSRP and the AWD making it a fun car no matter the conditions. It’s honestly the most fun car I’ve owned and I’ve had a WRX, Fiesta ST, and 3 Mustang GT’s.
Good choice 👍🏽
Good choice, love when CTR owners say “ well you can just put snow tires and I’ll do just great” well you can put snow tires on the GR and I’ll do much better then great. Can also take it the mountains, dirt and all those type of roads if you want. The type r is just a spring, summer car and on tarmac..
How many times in the last 1yr did you actually use the AWC, be honest
@@JG-mg3ifyou take a $60K GR Corolla to drive on dirt roads? Are you guys ok?
@@JG-mg3if yeah I appreciated the interior of the Type R but the rougher ride and lack of AWD just didn’t make it as good as a daily. For a more dedicated track car like the Type R is it’s pretty funny how close the track times are between the GRC and CTR’s. I thought the CTR would be seconds faster on track but it’s usually just a few tenths faster. I also got my GR Corolla for $41k at MSRP and the cheapest Civic Type R I could find was $55k.
Best Duo!
Morizo tucked neatly away in my garage. Thanks Toyota for building a car just for me. Compliments my STI and Evo nicely.
You paid what for it?
The GR Corolla reminds me of our 1975 Corolla SR5

@@GR_Papi thank you. I might have to look at a used 2017 sti though. Marvelous cars without a doubt
I like the Corolla GR is made at all these days but the CTR clears.
For 2025 please replace old man red for the shade you offer on the 86 or Supra 🙏
Hey, your AWD clutch pack overheats consistently at 15 minutes rendering the AWD useless on a track. And then it massively understeers.
15 minutes 🫣, damn what the hell are you doing wrong!!
Is it covered under warranty for a fix?
I test drive the 2024 gr corolla today I great car but the only thing I didn’t like and didn’t pull the trigger in buying it is that theirs no arm rest and in my opinion driving for a long trip is very important an arm rest I will go check out the 2024 type R and test drive hopefully I ended like it and purchased it
I like how even behind the uninformed / glossed over / laughable biases presented in this comparison, the Type R still won in half of the segments.
What's especially funny is that the Type R gives a universal offering for all its premium comforts that Toyota doesn't (I.e. alcantara steering wheel, parking sensors as standard, DAB, interior accent lighting, FULL suede interior, 10.2" screen, choice of exterior at no extra cost).
But for the GR corolla that's an added **feature** :O.
This is literally the only comparison test the GR Corolla won
Both cars are so cool, but I'm happy with my GR86. Would be really fun to cruise on freeways in a GRC though.
It's cramped, no?
Can you compare dealership markups/market adjustments? 😂.
Every new GR car Toyota makes, makes me love this brand even more.
That's quite the compliment! 🥰 Thanks for the love!

This has to be a Toyota marketing strategy lol. I have a SI and I can tell you this is a base civic model hahahaa
VTEC vs VVTLi came first, and now it's Inline 3 vs Inline 4. Front wheel drive vs All wheel drive!

Very good comparisons as always Toyota team😊
Thanks for sharing. We're glad you enjoyed it! 🤗
I wish they made a red leather seat just like Camry and offered automatic transmission instead of offering only 1 manual.
Next year possibly. Or it may be a lexus

AWD is superior in the rain, dirt, snow, autocross, and rally stages. FWD is too limited to what you can do.
True words have never been spoken more honestly than your comment! CTR fan boys “ but it’s faster on a dry day on a tarmac Road” 😂
How many people touch AWD a few weeks after buying their car? Mostly don't
FWD is still what they default to mostly
And type r still wins, crazy ain't it
Corollas are great family cars but I don’t understand why anyone would op for the GR version, over the type r or any other sport cars for that matter.
In general. Both Toyota GR Corolla and Honda Civic Type R are great Japanese sports cars and they are both a must buy. ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

Props to Toyota for offering the GR products at multiple price levels, hopefully they start to push the envelope a bit further!

What's wrong with a 6-speed manual transmission hm? Ya know, I think Honda did that on purpose to give the drivers the opportunity to shift or practice how to shift without running to a dual-clutch automatic because they don't know how to shift or their hands hurt.
Honda made a big mistake when they got rid of the handbreak.
BATTLE OF POPULAR SEDANS!! But the coolest of them all… 2024 TOYOTA GR COROLLA❤❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing the GR Corolla love! ❤️🔥
You mean Hot Hatchbacks.
Toyota really did Honda dirty with the choice of picking a dull-colored TypeR to show off and denying viewers from seeing the perfect blood-red guts bucket seats the Type R packs.
They also didn't show how crampy the GR's rear seats are compared to the spacious rear seats of the Type R.
Thirdly, they didn't talk about how noisy the inside of the GR is compared to the TypeR or how the feel of the quality of interior materials for the GR feels inferior to that of the Type R.
Luckily, some of us have sat in both cars, and there are indie CZcamsrs who have bought both, and returned one or the other after having it for a while because it didn't really give what it promised.
Only things I see the GR beat the TypeR with are the AWD options and also the heated steering/front seats.
The TypeR has a better interior feel and space.
The Canadian Civic Si 🇨🇦 has heated front/rear seats and steering wheel too, not sure what went wrong in the Honda design department that they didn't include that in the most import feature for cars coming to Canada, for a car that cost almost twice as the Civic Si, the expensive TypeR selling for $75,000CAD right now sh9ukd have heated bits everywhere inside it, while the GR Corolla sells for around $70,000CAD.
Both atrociously priced and not in the best interest of enthusiasts that need them as an only car to do ALL things.
By the way, what happened to the Moritzo? Saw only CORE, Premium, & Circuit. Has Toyota quietly eliminated it?
Control the dealer marks up first please. The GRC is a great car no doubt but the CTR handles extremely well due it being a very focused barebones track machine. Instead of the comparison to show which one is superior, I think highlighting the cool factors for both cars should be shown since cool cars are a dying breed at the moment. Good video nontheless.
On their own marketing page, promote a competitor in good faith? Hahaha
How can they solve dealer markups. I'd really like to hear that
While the GR Corolla is a great car, tomorrow I'm going to go pick up my new Civic Type R. There is no comparison! Those who know, know! Surprised no lap times were present of the two at the same track.... nice video though, enjoyed.

Man I love both cars but this is the most misleading comparison add I've ever seen.
I own a 2019 corolla hatchback right now, and I've been on the fence about upgrading for quite some time now. I was waiting for the blue flame to come out so I'm happy to see that. But this video is just funny. 80% of this is pure subjective things, and comparing 5 seats to 4 seats... WOW, the room and comfort difference is basically different leagues in favor of the Type-R. The climate control along with seating comfort is wayyy more adjustable. Worse yet the AWD system has a serous flaw in its design, it can't be cooled down under hard/ slippery driving even in very cold climates, the clutch pack ripped out of the RAV4 just wasn't built for this level of abuse.
Non of this takes away from what an amazing car the GR corolla is, but just sell it for what it is. It's a basic Economy car with badass powertrain that gives it a sporty feel for performance/ slippery drives, but its no luxury car, and defiantly not a rally ready car. It still needs a few things fixed, and even the aftermarket community is having a hard time solving the clutch pack issues.
Love you Toyota, my GF and I own 4Runner TRD and the XSE hatch, But sell it on what you do best, just make it better than the rest! Don't talk about, just do it.
