A great song, and Cerys is a National Treasure (and not just in Wales).

I played this to my Mother-in-law a few days before she passed away. She was suffering in pain and discomfort. We were waiting for the Nurse to arrive with pain relief. As soon as she heard it, she was soothed and peaceful. Sadly she died a few days later but this song had a special place in my heart.

It’s a song that brings deep cleansing to the soul. In the past I have spent hours crying over the meaning of its lyrics. (if you don’t understand welsh get a translation☺️)I am glad that your mother in law was able to get comfort from. God bless her.

I am enjoying some of these Welsh language songs and hymns by Cerys. Thinking of my old motorcycling Welsh friends and happy memories.

    Paham mae dicter, O Myfanwy,
    Yn llenwi′th lygaid duon di?
    A'th ruddiau tirion, O Myfanwy,
Heb wrido wrth fy ngweled i?
Pa le mae′r wên oedd ar dy wefus
    Fu'n cynnau 'nghariad ffyddlon ffôl?
Pa le mae sain dy eiriau melys,
Fu′n denu′n nghalon ar dy ol?
Pa beth a wneuthum, O Myfanwy
I haeddu gwg dy ddwyrudd hardd?
    Ai chwarae oeddit, O Myfanwy
A thanau euraidd serch dy fardd?
Wyt eiddo im drwy gywir amod
Ai gormod cadw'th air i mi?
Ni cheisiaf fyth mo′th law, Myfanwy,
Heb gael dy galon gyda hi.
Myfanwy boed yr holl o'th fywyd
    Dan heulwen ddisglair canol dydd.
A boed i rosyn gwridog iechyd
I ddawnsio ganmlwydd ar dy rudd.
    Anghofia′r oll o'th addewidion
    A wnest i rywun, ′ngeneth ddel,
    A dyro'th law, Myfanwy dirion
I ddim ond dweud y gair "Ffarwél".

Beautiful song, beautifully sung. But I'm afraid the ballet dancer does nothing for me.

Same, my mother used to sing Myfanwy to me when I was a child as a lullaby. The dancer is very pretty and graceful, and the song is a love song, but I cannot get the lullaby out of my head, so seeing the dancer prancing about is... jarring!

My-van-o-we is that how you pronounce it. I’ve been trying to figure out how to say this name for a ridiculous amount of time now. Sometimes it sounds like she is say Ma-van-o-we though.

Muvanoi. by the book but english speakers will say muvanwee. and Cerys switches back and fore between the two as the song requires. Songs being about musicality not phonetics.
