I had nothing better to earlier today, so I said "what the hell." I started watching and couldn't stop. Nell absolutely did not hate men. I don't know what this guy is going on about.
Nell whole motivation is her FATHER... a man, and Nell doesn't like it when people call her NELLY
I am actually surprised since none of your claims are applicable to the show. Yes, she is a female lead, but I don't think she has the same issues as Capt. "flat personality" Marvel or by any means is a Mary Sue... It is actually an example on "girl boss" done right without the character falling into the Mary Sue trope, since she has many obvious flaws, that effects the plot. Maybe you need to watch it again, because it is one of those shows definitely worth a rewatch 😊 also, I am sure you are aware, since you have watched the show, but the "Don't call me Nelly" is mostly said to her sisters and only said to men, when they call her Nelly as a misogynistic way of talking down to her, by not acknowledging her name is Nell

I totally agree with your reply. I really liked the show. I didn't plan on watching it, but I'm glad I did. It's nice to see a show that is about helping those in need and someone willing to stand up to the evils in the world.

I find it crazy that its set in a time when slavery was hitting its height inthe UK yet the many black characters are on eqaul footing or higher than the white characters. I watched Billy The Kid the other day and the same kind of thing going on there. Does this now mean that slavery is now being denied or that history is being rewritten in order to cast more black actors. Cant have it both way

It is a "Fantasy" programme "Disney" etc yeah, Disney is woke as fk! But, If you are looking for Historical accuracies in this programme, then you will be looking in the wrong place, I am HUGE critic of wokeness but I have to say RN is after 1 episode I have watched, Entertaining, ( not funny, but not awful cringe) either, The acting is superb from the whole cast, It is a panto in TV form, so ideal for families, no political agenda so far, maybe less in your face than other Disney programmes, and yes, There are good men and bad men in this show, Think Captain Hook level, accept it for what it is meant to be.

I do have a problem with putting people into roles that don’t make sense within the context of time periods, culture, geographical area, etc. For example to me having a Black person play the role of Milan would not make sense to me, or to have a White or Asian person play the role of an African slave in the story Roots. Doesn’t make sense. And it obvious that girl boss roles and inserting people into roles that don’t make sense are done in order to meet a diversity quota. I'm a life long disney fan who's dropped off. the company is now a dumpster fire. I didn't want to see this show but i'm glad i did. i'm only 2 in and it's very good in my opinion. far from the sh!t they've been peddling in recent years. the main character isn't angry towards men at all so far. Just strong. I'm ok with that because it's not over the top teaching hate like other films have lately. The real life actor might be an angry and scorn woman who has to bring men down in order to feel self worth but i don't see that in the character yet.
