Nerdy engineer point. A 3 dB difference might not sound like a lot, but dB is an exponential scale, not linear. A 3 dB difference is a doubling in a linear sense. For animals we hunt with much better hearing, a 3dB change is massive.
For old school sound systems that were sold by watts, a 3dB change is the difference from a 500 watt system to a 1,000 watt system.
Very good analogy, makes alot of sense.
Thank you.
Great explanation.
I’m a barrel chested dude at 6’4” 380, down from about 450 after college football! I started shooting when I was about at my heaviest and haven’t noticed a difference in my draw length from losing weight! I also agree with Josh even though my chest is big my shoulders are still square and inline and elbow inline with the bow! Hopefully I continue to lose weight and have an update further! Great podcast! Continue the fantastic content guys! Y’all are killing it!
Dude, another 140 pounds you'll be Captain America with 2" extra!! Lol 😂... 👍...Keep it up!
A bow hunter and a professional chimney sweeper. Y’all should let me inspect and service that stove and chimney and then we can fling a couple arrows! Keep up the great work guys been following for a while now. ❤
A great video idea is how to shoot wearing eyeglasses. How to anchor, draw length adjustment. I’ve asked several people locally but never get a good answer
I was having issues seeing string the frame of my glasses. Changed my draw length shorter and the issue had gone away went from 29 to o 27.5 a little at a time. Had to change my mods remember you will still need to retune your base and maybe shorten your arrows? Lots of fun!!
I can help you. What is the exact problem you are running into with your glasses?
Well, i have to wear cheaters for up close. I know I’ll have to wear them soon. I’ve tried to shoot in sun glasses but I can’t see through the nose piece.
Figure out how to keep your face straight to the target and looking straight thru the lens. I've never had an issue shooting with glasses or contacts. Or has to do anything different.
No matter what I do I shoot 12 inches to the left wearing my glasses. This is shooting with both eyes open. NOBODY can figure it out yet. If I shoot with one eye open it’s ok but field of view is limited
The guy in the brown bear video is Mark Heck, owner of Xpedition Archery
Boys, Tim Gillingham uses his thumb behind his neck
Best 6 minute intro, you both definitely have come along way and now comfortably legends of the Pod
Made my day 😂
Keep up the good work gents
It's pretty cool cuz as I sit here and watch this. Usually every Monday I'm at home so as I sit here and I listen to you and I tend to go pick up my bow and I do the things that you're talking about or shoot how I normally shoot and see what's different from what you say. A lot of times I'm on with MFJJj
So u have no life either . I am a CZcams addict also sir . Honestly if they let u smoke weed at indoor league u would hear the same conversation.
As always, great content, intriguing, and thought provoking!
Yes do an in depth anchor points video and where the best point is for a hinge, thumb button and trigger that would be amazing!
It seems like the barrel chested example is kinda like drawing with or without a bino harness. It sticks way out in front of your face but no difference in draw length.
Are we talkin moving the first axis here? This is the way that I set up my bow for target and hunting, I don’t have issues with my impacts going left and right with a broadhead, 0-120 yards. The only way I could see that problem rising would be if your first and second axis are not married then your will definitely track left and right.
First thing that popped into my head when listening to Joe and remi talk about bows was if you guys were gonna hear it then talk about it
Should also make a video on lens power with draw length and clarifiers to still see the pin without it fading out and sight bar length
Good stuff guys keep it up
Good stuff. You guys rock
Brown bear guy was using 485 grain arrow. Talks about it on working class now hunter podcast. Not that it matters at 12’feet.
Another great podcast.
How much do the decibels change when outdoors vs indoors? Or when firing from inside a ground blind? Also, are some bows louder out the front vs sides and rear? I know a circular saw is measured much louder indoors vs outdoors and is louder on the exposed blade side. Just some curious thoughts.
Working Class Bowhunter just did a pod with that guy.
did Jocko finally sponsor the beverages? lol
I think Gillingham also shoots with thumb behind the neck. Sometimes, depending on what release he's using.
I learned a lot about eyes this year. As you get older the big thing to watch for is your retina. Get regular eye checks past 45 to ensure they are in good health. When the retina goes, it goes quick. Any changes to vision, sudden floaters, blind spots, acuity… get checked. LASIK doesn’t help age… the laser they use is to tack the eye from the internal fluid sack collapsing and taking the retina with it
You should look into the Fletcher Munson hearing curves to better understand human hearing.
There are two episodes of the Deer IQ Podcast with guest Dr. Karl Miller and they discus the senses of deer. Very informative and in regards to deer hearing the bow, it maybe that they actually are detecting movement because of their vision. Highly recommenced those two episodes.
I do the same thing and I've been wondering if that's a problem but I look at my bubble as well
I had lasik and now I have mono vision. Left eye for close and right eye for distance. Together they work flawlessly and I can shoot my bow with no issues.
Long time listener first time caller… 😂
A live Q & A just with the same fire rule
Tim, love the questions about size and draw length... Unfortunately, MFJJ is right for me personally. I have a relaxed 56" circumfrance chest and 77" wing span. I'm only 6' 2" with a very relaxed and balanced LIFT 31" draw length. Josh cleared it up.. it's not my shoulders or long arms, it's my big melon head that pushes my draw length past the average for my height. My wife heard it, now I have to deal with that.... thanks very much.
Couple things with your eyes. Part of what you may be dealing with is a dryness on your eyes. If your eyes dry out they will affect your vision. If you sleep with a fan at night this will dry your eyes out.
Lasik will affect the front of your eyes or the cornea. The close up side is the focus muscle of your eyes starting to go. Thats just an age thing, hence the need for readers for most people around the age of 40.
The macular degeneration, you need to get to an eye Dr and see whats going on within your eyes and see what the overall health of your macula and retina/ optical nerve is.
You mentioned time to target. Will you guys do a video on exactly that. Time to target on various arrow speeds and various distances.
When shooting, specifically a hinge, is there anything wrong with the idea of taking a deep breath as you aim, then initiating the release motion as you breathe out.
Ptch plays into dBa the pitch may cause a bow to be louder in a different scale like dBc. I have never been confident in using a camera for noise. Id look into a sound pressure level. A scale is used becaus humans can hear that best its a big area never discussed
Maybe can touch on the topic of - always promoting a “surprise release “ but then in the moment of hunting it’s ok to command the shot. It’s a bit confusing because all year we practice getting the surprise release and learning how much it helps our accuracy but then in the most important parts of the year it’s ok to forget all that and command the shot. Just seems wrong to me . I get it because I’m a whitetail hunter in Illinois things happen very quickly. Just an idea of topic I’m sure others are indifferent about this topic as well .
The guy who shot the Grizzly did a podcast with the "Working Class Bowhunter" podcast, his arrow was mid 400 grain iirc
Great discussion as always. It would be interesting to get Paige Pearce on to discuss rail to string and bubble to rail. I know she hunts as well as being an amazing target archer, it would be interesting to see if she just uses mechs broadhead or she adjusts the rest….
😂 6’5” Josh enters woods.. bear not scare you, you scare bear.
I had a German shepherd for 11.5 years… the power he had was impressive… a wolf is two and a half times that…. I don’t want to cross paths with one in the woods.
Josh, I would recommend trying some pin-hole glasses to try and use while you are reading or using a computer. They exercise your eyes and can help with vision issues.
I had lasik for distance, I find Ive lost at least the first 5 minutes and the last minutes of legal shooting light while hunting. Low light shooting is more difficult.
I also find it harder to selectively blur and focus quickly while looking between the peep, pin/level and the target.
I’ve found my vision for shooting my bow is worse after lasik, I much preferred shooting with contacts. Although most other aspects of my life a somewhat improved after lasik.
Dude, you need to learn up on wolves. I’ll take a bear any day of the week. But for reals, still loving the POD! Thanks
Deer drops he hears the bow. Deer drops and rolls he hears the arrow coming. Fast arrows make more noise and vented broadheads add to that, so there may not be any advantage to super fast arrows.
Please make an anchor video. My AP is a mess atm
If you listen to Working Class Bowhunter episode 651. They have the brown bear hunter on and they go into the whole hunt.
Wolves are super sketchy !!!!! They will kill for fun where a bear or lion for food i agree with Josh on that one lol 😅great talk guys thank you always good stuff
I also draw down and raise up
If what Tim is saying is true in the beginning about draw length… and I mean this in no way meanly but he could definitely lose some of his width (or perhaps gain 100 more lbs) and see if his draw length changes…. I’m w MFJJ head and shoulder is same place and distance as an adult unless you are a child and still growing.
👍
I saw the Sig brown bear hunt. You said you would have hunted without back up.Hope MFJJ would make funeral arrangements before he went. 😢
New video to prove the point, get a fat suit or a Hulk suit and give it a try!
Baiting with someone else is a recipe for arguments and chasing off big bears from over sitting at the site.
Wolf by far scariest thing. Those things are crazy. Truly not a fan of grizzly bears but having a bunch of wolfs coming at you. Oh hell no.
How much weed did Tim smoke?
Your string does not catch on your bino case on your chest . And toy don't draw around that
Pretty sure Tim means a deep chest not broad
Damm MFJJ it's 2024 you should be carrying a pistol everyday regardless of if your hunting ...wild animals are probably the least of the worries..
Just get a pair of reading glasses and be done with it
Also, Josh, for the love of sweet baby Jesus, STOP saying “orientated”
