Thank you for posting, great memories. It was a great place to stay, 1200 students in quite a small area then, with nearly all of them in their first year so it made it a great place to get to know people & party (had about 400 for my 21st birthday party in EPH dining room!). Quite close to Uni so not so much time commuting and no doubt plenty from your course there making collaboration easier, for you parents reading this ;) Was quite surprised to see that your room was pretty well identical to mine when I was there, though I think the service areas, & certainly reception has changed, but then I was in EPH in 1977/78... The year the Uni Sailing Club did a sponsored 24 hour sail one December weekend on Leazes pond, the "do you want to come for a sail after the party" did not work very well as a ... ... 'pick up line' (that was the 70s...) for the Saturday evening party I went to during my break from the sailing... ... ... Also the year some students were quite ... ... compassionate to one of Leazes Moor's occupants one cold December night, more on another reply here. Wonderful Uni, had a great time there
+WinnieNg For some reason it won't let me reply to your comment. My sincere apologies :/ With reference to your question though, all of the washbasin rooms have approximately the same layout. However most of the rooms in eustace percy hall are en-suite. Those rooms are a bit smaller (they fit a bed and a desk with a tiny space inbetween because the shower and toilet take up the other part of the room). The difference to freeman hall is that you are in a different part of leazes but that's all :)
Hi, Thanks for the tour. I was at Castle Leazes back in 1992 and I almost forgot what some of the aspects of it were like, but I'm pleased to say that absolutely nothing has changed in all these years ! Memories !!!!!!!!!
what on earth! i was in Eustace Percy, castle leazes and we were self catered, the kitchen was less than half that size! we only had ONE shower between TEN of us, two toilets and one grotty bath and that was it. My room was also smaller in floor space ... guess your hall does make a difference!
Hi! Thank you so much for posting this video! I've got into castle leazes(with washbasin) too but i've offered to tyne house of eustace percy hall. Can i know is there any difference compare to freeman hall?
Hey thank you for posting this video! It was super super helpful as I've got Castle Leazes accomodation :) Quick question, is there underbed storage at all? Could you fit some flat boxes under there or is there no space? Thank you :3 xox
+Emily Clarke Hey! You're very welcome :) I'm glad that you found it useful. With reference to the storage, I was able to fit two huge suitcases (32'') ones under the bed along with some smaller boxes on both ends of it. You'll definitely be able to fit flat boxes under the bed, however should you choose to fit proper built boxes, the bed doesn't allow for bed-risers so they would have to be of a smaller size...If I remember well, the distance from the bottom of the bed to the floor is around 30cm. Feel free to ask me any other questions that you may have! Congrats on getting a place at Leazes!! You'll love it :)
Dear CollegeTips, thats quite useful information. Can you comment about Bowsden Court accommodation. Can I get roommates in the 2/3 bedroom flats? How do the accommodation at Bowsden Court compare with Castle Leazes?
Hello! I've been looking into Newcastle uni accommodation and your tour is just perfect!! An off topic question tho, what do you think of the course media, communication and cultural studies in the uni? Is it a popular course and is it good? Imm struggling so much as I'm not from the uk so I do not have much first hand information. Hope to hear from you soon x hehe
Thank you so very much for your kind words. I can't say that I know many people doing that course but Newcastle is a well ranked university. I'm sure that the course will be great but I don't know many people on it. That being said, attending an Open Day or getting in contact with a Student Representative from that course might let you get a better idea of what you want to do. Hope that helped a bit :)
Hello. Thank you very much. You aren't able to pick the specific hall which you are placed in but they all have lifts because each hall in Castle Leazes has multiple floors.
Hey thanks for this video, it was very useful. I was wondering if you could tell me anything about the policy for overnight guests in castle leazes? Thanks :)
+Cathy Heatley Hey! You're very welcome, I'm glad that you found it useful :). Overnight guests aren't allowed according to what we were told last year. That might change for this year but they will definitely inform you on it when you first arrive, and if they don't then you can ask. However for us, they weren't allowed. Although it's not a very strict rule (and they are quite lenient), guests are usually not allowed for security purposes and in case of a fire. Hope that helped a bit. Let me know if you have any other questions :)
PhD students usually live in post-graduate accommodation. Castle Leazes is an undergrad accommodation site therefore most probably no. If however you have arranged something with the University or have been allocated this site, you will most likely be in the Wardens House. The layout is a little bit different compared to a single washbasin room. A lot of PhD students and postgrads also live in houses or flats instead of University accommodation but that depends on the individual. You can go on the University's website to see the different postgraduate accommodation sites available. I hope that was of some help!
This is really helpful for a nervous Mum about to send her boy off to uni (he is buzzing haha). Just a quick question did you provide your own chair for the desk ? Thanks - fab video.
Hello! Oh congratulations! I'm glad that you found this video helpful. The chair came with the desk. If you dont like the chair that he will be given though you are able to buy your own! I hope that helped a bit and please let me know if you have any more questions
Thanks for posting this! I've just got an offer for the same house in the same hall so it's useful to see what it's like as the uni site doesn't show much. Quick question though, what's it like noise wise? Like is it generally a noisy place to stay in? :)
rowlinginthedeep Thank you for watching and having such a nice comment! Sorry for my late reply. Noise wise, it honestly depends on a lot of factors (i.e. where you are, who is on your floor, the time of year, etc). I found it to get a bit noisier during the second semester but it didn't become unbearable. Overall it's not as noisy as you would expect. And if you want to silence out the noise, the sliding door in your room blocks out quite a lot :)
@@collegetips6316 It all depends on the students around you... There were some ... significant sound systems when I was there, & seems that occasionally people there liked to make sure that they could hear whatever was playing ;) Thoroughly enjoyed my year there, the year that some students felt concerned about cows being left out in the cold on Leazes Moor one December night, so they guided one of the cows into Havelock, sent it up to the 8th floor (the female floor), where the occupants awoke to find a cow in their corridor, it was warm though ;) ... Then decades later one of my customer's son went to Newcastle, and heard about the tale... Was the story still around in 2015?
Hey , I know you uploaded this ages ago but I’m going soon and I’m washbasin/self-catered. Will there be a communal area on each flat or is it shared between a few?
+φρανκ κι Depending on whether or not you have an offer from Newcastle and if you decide to put it as your firm choice, an accommodation application form will be released at the same time for everyone after results have come out. If you have met your offer requirements you will then be able to apply for the accommodation you want :)
Sonali Venkat Thanks for your comment and congrats on getting in! Blackett's house is exactly the same it is just in a different part. All halls are split into houses which refers to their position in the building. All the rooms in Freeman's hall have the same layout so you have nothing to worry about! :)
Hello! If you are in a self-catered room then you will have a communal area/dining room for your flat. However if you have a standard washbasin room you will probably end up pre-ing in someone's room, in the hall, or in one of the communal areas of the accommodation (TV room, Snooker room or in the Bar). I hope that helped a bit. :)
+Anujan Weshley Lesley Jayanthan You're very welcome! We had amazing pres this year and you'll be surprised as to how many people you can actually fit into your room. The people you're with make your pres fun so don't worry too much about it. You will have an amazing year!
It isn't the closest accommodation to the Law School. It is approximately a 30-minute walk but if you don't mind the walking distance then it is definitely recommended.
Stephen Moran I can't give you the exact speed but the wifi is fast. If you have any problems you can just get in contact with the IT department and they will send someone out to resolve the problem as soon as possible. I hope that helped!

What floor were you on?
Hi, do you know what the standard rooms are like? Are they situated with everyone else?
Hello. The standard rooms are like the one shown in the video so you will either be in a flat of 8-10 or on a floor with approximately 15 people
Hey thank you so much! I got into castle leaves too. Except i got, Blackett's house in freeman hall. Is it similar to this house?

Hey, I am interested in New Castle University, I sent email them but so far I got non response.
Giant Microphone you need to apply through UCAS with school referrals and at least 3 A Levels
Are ensuite rooms same gender?
+AKGsmile Depending on the house that you are allocated to in Castle Leazes, you can be with people of the opposite gender
+CollegeTips thanks
AKGsmile is there rules about girls going onto male floors or is it just how rooms are allocated?
