- Well that didn't exactly go to plan. After training hard all winter I rocked up to my first fixed gear crit of the season and it all went very wrong. Thank goodness I still have all my teeth.

Ugh my heart is broken for you. I was so excited to see you race Saturday and was scared when I didn’t see you in the finals. I’m glad only your Bike was hurt, but man what a bummer! I’m sure the rest of your season will go at a different pace. ❤️

Aww Juliet, not so pleasent to see your lovely infectious smile taken & replaced with sadness. It's OK though as this shows what matters to you and that you put your heart into racing, it's good for things to really matter. As someone who is just starting fixed gear racing and a little anxious about it your openness & honesty is appreciated. It has equally made me certain I have picked the correct side of the sport if you are representative of the people associated with fixie crits.. you will bounce back faster have no doubt 💪 btw please don't be to hard on the weirdo who wants to say hello at his first race, that will probably be me.
the riders (and spectators) at fixed gear crits are awesome, it's like a big family. I love it when people come say hi! See you at Thundercrit.

I feel your pain as I skipped Red Hook to recover a head injury. Seeing my mates race Mission crit reignited my fire to first recover fully then train and ride smart. I'll be at the back line party with ya the next RHC!

probably good to watch for concussion symptoms next couple weeks (i had a helmet-breaking crash a couple weeks ago and get relatively mild intermittent headaches still)).

Glad you survived to race another day! So gutted for you. Broken helmet, broken bike frame, whiplash and bumps/bruised and all be fixed or healed. You've got a fantastic attitude and I'm sure that even starting at the back at the next rhc, you'll make up some lost ground. Hope I can make it to the next one to watch you finish strong!!!
Damn, that was a solid knock to your head, really glad you didn't race again. The 2nd concussion is always more damaging so it's not worth risking it until your brain has healed. Glad you're ok, take it easy :)
So sorry for you, that really sucks. I got curb-checked a few years back and I know how bad that was, and I didn't even damage as much stuff as you. Don't let some jerk get you down though, you can come back!
Omg, so sorry to hear about the crash! I'm glad to hear you're ok especially your head. Definitely agree, thank goodness for helmets! Not sure if you're able to, but I would protest your result and maybe find the racer that pushed you in the barrier and see if the judges can do something about it. I feel the same after a spill going through so many emotions. Glad you're at least enjoying yourself and cheering on your mates!

This totally brings back some memories. I was out on my bike like 25 years ago, and came across some loose gravel on a hill. I looked back to check for cars, and my front wheel slid or sunk down in the gravel. I flew over the handle bars, cracked my head, knee, and arm on the gravel and asphalt. I had to walk home, leaking everywhere. Splendid ride, my mom freaked.

Gald to hear that you are unharmed from the crash. More than a month ago I got ran over by a car whilst I was training for fixedgear crit racing season, bike destroyed and a broken elbow is keeping me off the bike since then. I understand the ups and downs of your emotions when cheering for your mates. Best of luck for your season!

Juliet Elliott I don’t know because I’m still not able to extend and flex my arm as before I tried to use the turbo trainers but my arm is weak af and as soon as I start pushing hard my back starts to hurt and my elbow hurts. Mid june I hope to be back hitting the roads but the racing season is done

This was a hard watch, Juliet. However given the damage to your bike and your helmet I’m relieved that you weren’t hurt worse. Don’t dwell on it. I’m sure you will bounce back stronger and faster than ever.

U took the crash with style and grace. I had many in my duathlons(do they still do them anymore. Run..bike...run..???)and Triathlons. After Ironman 1991 I retired from Triathlons. After 25 marathons...I retired from them. Now that I am now retired for 15 years... Biking in my 70’s 80’s and 90’s. I think I’m pushing the last one lol Keep posting and I’ll keep watching. Norm

This sadly reminds me of a scene from the film 'Breaking Away' when the main character is crashed by his Italian competitors. Getting driven into a barrier is no joke - hope your recovery went well.

Yep, but fixed+crit is 10 times more dangerous than road if you discount cars during training. Happy you are ok to race another day, lucky you were due for a new frame anyway!.

There must be a Cycling Law (a bit like Sod’s Law), that the newer the equipment, the more likely it is to get damaged! I got a new Gore Jacket the other day - 30 minutes into a ride I went over the handlebars and ripped it. Hope you’re ok, great video showing all the emotion of being a bike rider 👍

i was standing very close to that barrier. sounded horrible when you slammed into it. glad you walked away and i think the other girl was okay as the stretcher looked precautionary.
Just found this, took me bake to riding Crits back in the late 1980's around Newcastle and Sunderland. But we used gears
