Nice find my friend! Yes, the brushroll on the wildcat was a big issue for them. As you said the bristles are very soft, and the brushroll is narrow. The soft bristles often tangled long pet hair, rather than removing it. The brushrool end caps are made of plastic, and hair often wrapped around the endcaps, which resulted in friction making it heat up and often melting the endcaps. As a result, the brushroll would seize up and no longer spin. Something to keep a eye on. As you know, if that happens, you're gonna have to find a parts wildcat to replace the brushroll with. I will say, you said in your video the brushroll bogs down easily. I have never found that, though the brushroll is underpowered. Side note, you mentioned how you can attach a Fury, Thunder, or Cyclone XT extension hoses. They also did, again for an extremely short amount of time, make a matching color scheme extension hose for the Crosswind series and Wildcat. The buttons/lights on the machine are a reset button, brushroll status indicator, and a clog/wash filter indicator.
Wow, very lucky and rare find, must be your lucky day. I’m definitely impressed how nostalgic this vacuum is and the Fantom is almost as old as I am being manufactured in 2001. The design on the vacuum is very cool and very interesting, definitely love how beautiful the motor sounds including the carpet lines the vacuum makes
Nice Fantom Wildcat! I'm glad it arrived saved! That cord clip was already there when I had it. Considering how rare these machines are now nowadays, you won't be able to find one in a great condition as this one! Motor does sound similar to the Shark vacuums.
These were always futuristic looking to me as a kid and were pretty cool although horrible design choices led to them failing and going bankrupt after losing the Dual Cyclone patents from Dyson
Love that name!! Wildcat. I ordered a motor for an old Bissell that had been sitting outside for 7+ years. And the new motor was dented up and the fan was hitting metal. So I called them and they said they need to machines model number. But the sticker had come off 😅 it all worked out and they finally sent another motor. Thought I’d share😁
EXTREMELY desirable vacuum. However there are a lot of questionable design choices. Still rare and special vacuum in my opinion. And I almost forgot to say why Fantom no longer used dual cyclone design. They stopped to pay patent fees to Dyson so there is that. In my opinion very poor choice, but I guess they were short of money.
Their relationship went sour due to greed and mismanagement Dyson wanted to bring to market things such as a washable HEPA filter and fantom decided they wanted to continue manufacturing disposable ones.. because of their differences beyond the cyclonic patent Dyson decided to part ways leading to modern day company we see now. I imagine if fantom was still around they would have dominated the industry being the earlier adopters of bagless technology
