Very fine video, and you showed the details and difficulties well. Thank you!
Thank you for your support, we try our best to show as much as possible.
Just found your vlogs and enjoying them. We have a saying in the UK, A Friend in Need is a Pain in the Arse.:) Nice one guys.
🤣 A very dry kind of pain
Bit like sex then.....
Great walkthrough guys. Helped me out a treat 🙌
Great to hear. 👍
My 2015 golf TDI 2.0 CRUA is just turning 90k and just at the 5 year mark, gonna order the timing kit with studs and all hardware, diesel geeks kit in hand, only difference i see is the water pump is without teeth on it. Love my diesel, cant wait too start the job. Thank you, most helpfull video in english
Hopefully everything is going smoothly!
Thank you guys. Your instructional process for replacing the timing belt was easy to follow and helpful. You just saved me $2k if I got a mechanic to do it.
That's a good chuck of money you saved! Glad that the video helpt you.
@@TheDutchGarage Hi. 0.375 sync okay at 90C? 1.6 cayc
Do you mean ohm at 90c. If so I can't tel you. I just don't know.
On what planet is 2k to change the timing belt and water pump for 1.2 TDI? In my city is 200euro..
That is really cheap, here it is about 800 euro I believe.
Brilliant. Gotta do this on my 1.6 TDi soon. Groot bedankt !
No problem, good luck!
@@TheDutchGarage OK... Nearly done with the change. Just got to put on the multi-Vee belt and put back the top part of the engine mount. On the 1.6TDi I did not have an intercooler pipe in the way, and the particulate filter is not bolted to the engine mounting lower part. I drained the coolant when I took off the water pump. Only 1.5 litres came out from the engine. I recommend putting the car on axle stands at the front, so the wheel and arch liner can be removed. I managed on ramps, but the aforementioned would be easier. Next time I will make a special right angle short reach Torx T30, to ease getting the lower plastic cambelt cover off. Also, there is an unused eye on the lower engine mounting part, and I will cut it off next time. That part was very awkward to get in and out. I noticed I need to renew the exhaust pipe !
Very good steenkool English guys!
Haha, blijft toch mooi om dat 'nederlandse' Engels te horen.
Leuke tutorial ook trouwens. Jullie weten het dusdanig gedetailleerd te brengen dat zelfs een leek dit klusje kan uitvoeren. Good job!
Ja vreselijk, helemaal als het ook nog je eigen stem is 😅.
thank you so much i enjoyed . more work than i thought
Glad that you enjoyed the video, it's indeed a bit of work.
I don't know cars, and I got my skoda estate belt done by a garage. Having watched your video, I am happy what I paid. I knew it was a big job but watching you showed what's involved. Thanks !
Respect for that decision. Sometimes you can beter spend your money on the bigger jobs and save money on the smaller ones.
Great explanation even though you are probably Dutch speaking ....thank you !
No problem, glad that you could follow it.
Thank you indeed for your nice and clear vidio

Thank you, Greetings from Groningen.
I understand why there are so many videos of this procedure. You need the video to get it back together in the right order!!
Wonderful and knowledgeable video @TheDutchGarage 😇🙏
Thank you, glad to hear that.
easier to get belt on if you don't fit tensioner in square slot just loosen nut on tensioner tensioner is free to move round giving you loads of slack on belt fit belt over pullies then use flat blade screwdriver push clip into square hole then tension up belt done loads this way much easier
Great video! Thank you very much.. would you mind me asking what support bar you are using to hold the engine? As with my vw tiguan it seems that where the support bar will rest is very far away from the tabs that hold the engine.
Many thanks again!
Hi there, it's just a standard chinees brace like www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Engine-Support-Beam-500kg-Gearbox-Bar-Double-Support-Traverse-Lifter-Car-Vehicle/133031891722?epid=0&hash=item1ef951930a:g:mjwAAOSwDSRdHIFE
You should not disconnect any hoses to change a belt! remove the bolts and move the fuel filter and coolant bottle away above the engine.
You are probably right but at the moment it looked like the best option.

Thanks !
Great video. What is the size / type of socket you use to turn the crankshaft pulley?
Thank you, i looked it up and it is a 19 or 21mm 12 point bolt.
Thats a good work mate.
My 2006 skoda Octavia 1.9 tdi diesel alh 5 speed manual just clocked 100k kms on odo. Need to change timing kit.
Which is good brand?
INA, contitech, Dayco or gates?
I mostly go for conti or SKF or gates. But INA is decently a good brand Dayco I honestly never used.
Id like to see how to replace timming belt on Golf 4 😀 i think is different.
Thanks for the awesome video! Do the 1.6 and 2.0 use the same torque specs?
Hi there, it is the same belt so it could be. But the torque specs can very between brands of timing belt so always use those.

Awsome video, atleast now i know it is not a small job, i would do this myself but atleast i learnt something and got a quote for 6000 South African Rand to do the exact job hehehe
Respect for your decision! Also for that price that is not bad.
Marco Struwig is that all? in the UK from a main dealer this job costs 10096.72 of your South African Rand £494 in Pound Sterling.
great video! - im thinking i need to do this on my 2013 1.6 Golf TDI as my car has started overheating (guess the water pump has failed. i would be grateful if you could link me the correct tools for holding the cam / high pressure fuel pump / crank shaft's in position while doing the job? thanks in advance
Hi there, Thank you! Are you sure it is the water pump? most of the time you just need to burb the system or replace the thermostat. Please be sure to check that first. Much easier to do and cheaper!
@@TheDutchGarage thanks buddy I did investigate and it was definitely the water pump. The housing was also leaking so it's been replaced with the cambelt with help from your video!
Thats great to hear! Up to the next job!
Where do You find all the tightening torque specs for different cars? Very good video!
Thank you, most of the time I look for workshop manual online or buy the book.
Cant find anything for my mk4 Golf 1.6 online, maybe You could offer me something without buying the service manual?
Try this site. workshop-manuals.com/volkswagen/golf-mk4/brake_systems/technical_data/brake_allocation_via_pr_no./
Not the best looking site but it has a lot of data.
Thank you. Can you explain why it is ok for the HP fuel pump to be off a little bit?
I believe it is because the pump maintains a constant pressure. The actual injection timing is controlled by electronically activated injectors
Great video, thank you! I will be replacing the timing belt in my 2013 A3 8V 2.0TDi (CRBC), but haven't been able to find the right crank locking tool (I'm in the UK. Is the tool the same as the cool for PD engines? Most of the tools for sale on ebay here are described as being for PD engines and list all the old PD engine codes (BKD etc). Great video. I need to replace cam belt on 1.0 MPI Skoda Mk3. VW must put these engines in other models, Polo, Seat? Is the timing belt same as this 1.2 TDI Polo? Many Thanks
Thank you, but I must say that the engine is very different then sown in the video.

Thank you perhaps it is me but finding a workshop manual for my skoda seems impossible. That was why I thought a Seat or whatever manual would do instead. Many Thanks
@@paddy9021 If it is the same engine then it would not be a problem.
Great video, thanks!
I have a question though: Your torque values do not match the ones in the video you postede a link to. He specifies +90degrees for the camshaft bolts and you only specify +45degrees. Which is correct?
Br, Johan
That is a good question, i do have seen different numbers between different cars with the same engine. The best is to follow the instructions of the timing kit manufacturer. workshop-manuals.com/skoda/fabia-mk2/power_unit/1.6/55;_66;_77_kw_tdi_cr_engine/enginecrankshaft_group_pistons/removing_and_installing_a_v-ribbed_belt_and_a_toothed_belt/removing_and_installing_toothed_belt/installing_(set_the_timing)/
This is official not from the polo. but at least it has the same numbers as i mention. Sorry for the confusion, it just sucks.
@@TheDutchGarage I bought a Bosch kit, and they just state to look up the values in the electronic workshop manual which I of course don´t have access to... The bolts for the camshaft are the same diameter and have the same thread as the ones for the diesel pump, but they are shorter, so I went with 20Nm +45degrees. There are of course a few other things to take into consideration, eg. differences in material.
You will let me know if Robbies polo suddenly starts to smoke a lot, right? :D
@@johanskou Robins car is still running fine. if not you are the first one to know. The car has some other issues though but that has noting to do with the timing belt. Good luck in your quest!
Hi there,
I'm soon to be doing this job, but I am so torn on what timing belt kit to purchase..
I see you have purchased the Continental belt kit for this video. What's your opinion on using their kits? Are they a good brand?
I'm thinking of going for the same myself
Hi there, continantal is a great brand but SKF or Gates are fine brands also.
I'll go with Continental like you say!
Thank you!
👍
Hello, can you please tell me the bit size of the 4 screws XZN from the bottom poly? Is it a M8 or a M10? Thanks.
Most of the time i mention it in the video. I really can't tell on top of my head.
Fantastic video, was thinking of doing this job myself but have now decided to let VW do it for me, the job looks very difficult indeed for a part time mechanic like me.
Oh, wouldn't it be great if we got rid of rubber Cam Belts, BMW use good old fashioned chains.
The thing is this job costs about £500 at a VW dealership in the UK and needs doing every 5 years!
Hi, I've got great respect for knowing your boundaries. Chains are great but also have there issues like ratteling and the railguides break over time(plastic) also chains take more energie to rotate. 500 pounds is a lot of money the kit itself cost around 100 pounds I believe.
My local garage does the VAG timing belt and water pump for £300. On my Octavia 1.6 TDi CR the change interval is 140,000 miles.
no
@@JohnnyPaton I think that Skoda also states 4 year time limit for engines before 2010, then 5 years for 2011 onwards. Not sure why they do short limit but they do it in UK. Lots of people confused and complain about this, like why every 5 years in UK but no such time limit in other countrie? Weird.
Can anyone tell me if you carry out a 10.000 mile chech and tell the garage that you think that your car is losing some violent would it be picked up on a visual inspection, completion and diagnostic check. Many thanks in advance.
If your car is leaking, then yes. But most of the time it is just a too big of a mess to really pinpoint the problem. But there is a possibility that your car is burning fluid.
Good one, thanks
No problem.
Wow that is some shady tree stuff right there lol
Yes, yes it is.
I don't have the silicone grease for the waterpump gasket. What is the correct name , so i can order it ? Or can i use something else?
And did you take the air out of the watercircuit via a nipple somewhere? Thx for the good video anyway .
Hi, for the gasket I used some RTV (liquid gasket) something like Wynns Gasket maker. I do not recall opening a other valve for burping the system. But most of the time if there is one it is at the bulkhead where the hoses for the interior heater are located.
Ok thx . One more thing . You take off the studs with 2 bolts. But how do you tighten the new ones? My Clio belt doens't have these studs@@TheDutchGarage

Is this engine similar to the 1.2 TDI in the Lupo 3L?
Sorry, but no. The high pressure pump part is missing. But for the rest it looks similar but it isn't the same.
how to change the belt on a audi a1 2015 petrol 1.4L 150bhp ? thanks
If I ever have to do one I will make a video. But the changes are slim.
The side bracket is the worst part off the job getting it in and out
That is absolutely true especially if you don't have a proper support bar.
What is the interval of cambelt on rapid 1.5 TD CR..
Hi, what i could find. 2012 and onward 210 000 km or after 5 years.

So I followed this procedure and everything was aligned to TDC and my 2011 vw Jetta 2.0 cjaa isn’t starting. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!! I primed the fuel pump and other the the HPFP being a bit off I have no idea why it’s not starting..
That always sucks... feul lines backwards? Air in the feul lines? Maybe a sensor not connected?
Yeah it does suck. All sensors connected unless one has some dust in it. All lines are in the right place. However I didn’t cap of the fuel and dripped over night. Although I primed the pump idk?? 😕
I do think you have are in the lines.
@@TheDutchGarage Did you cap off your fuel lines on timing belt? Also how do I get the air out of the lines?

Hi mate I had my timing belt Changed on a polo 1.2 tdi when it came back from the garage it had the glow plug light flashing and it’s keeps going in to limp mode but when I turn the engine of the light goes of for a bout 5 minutes then back on again I get a code p0087 fuel pressure to low do no what it could be
That sucks! Can be a lot of things. Air in the fuel system, fuel lines clogged or wrongly installed, pump timing to much off.
The Dutch Garage do think it could be the fuel pressure censor or the relief Valve
It ofcourse could be that. But you said that happened after the belt change. It would be a real coincidence that there is a problem with those things. It's more likely that it has something to do with the repair.
The Dutch Garage ok thank the reply I sent back to the garage to him today and he said the timing was of half a tooth but he said that wouldn’t make it run like that
Good luck. Hopefully it is something small. You don't want to get into a right/wrong game.
