  • Welcome to this week's FEATURE FRIDAY ✌
This week we get to litsen INDIAN HIP HOP for the FIRST TIME!
starting with ‪@DinoJames‬ and his emotional song "Hancock". We then travelled to a brand new dimension with Dhee ft. Arivu - Enjoy Enjaami, then Raja Kumari & DIVINE performed "City Slums" live from bbc Mumbai. The Kaam 25 OST reminded us of back home and our underground rap styles and to finish it all off we enjoyed "QUARANTINE" by Young Stunners, Talha Anjum, Talhah Yunus & KR$NA
Thank you so much for the incredible suggestions! I love you guys. ♥♥♥♥

In India, English is our second language... first language is different for everyone as we speak different languages in different states. Majority of the population here are multilingual. Like I'm from Kerala which is in the south part of India and there we speak Malayalam, but I live in Delhi which is in north India and here we speak Hindi and as always English is our second language. And almost every songs no matter which state it is from , it's common to mix English words or sentences fluidly within the songs

"Enjoy Enjaami" is a song from southern most part of India called Tamil Nadu. The song has great significance as it is a song of resistance, and story about Tamil migration to Ceylon during colonial times told to singer Arivu by his grandmother who called him Enjaami meaning My Lord! He tries to reflect the relationship between humans and nature as we are a part of nature and not devoid of it!! Love this song!

The first song you played in this video is dino James Hancock .. omg 😱 this is a very emotional song and i can't stop tears whenever I listen to this. These songs are for dog lovers for sure and also for everyone else as it displays unconditional love and a heartbreaking story of the guy - dino James (he's lyrics are legendary) and his pet - Hancock...

Love these podcasts!! and yes, latin music like reggaeton is listening in South Asia (Pakistan/india etc) area, and especially popular with South Asian immigrants to western countries! In the early 2000's, and even now, there are a lot of artists like Raja Kumari who like combine a variety of Indian language and English because thats both of their identities. Kind of like how Shakira goes from spanish to english. I recommend listening to Dil Luteya by Jazzy B and Apache Indian or like Jogi by Punjabi MC to listen to the reggae influence of Indian pop music! :) Jazzy B is canadian Indian, Apache Indian is British Indian and Punjabi MC is British Indian.

Although Enjoy Enjaami may seem commercial but the meaning behind it it veryyy deep. Its about slavery of the ancestors of indians(this song was written by arivu on how his grandma was one of em who worked her whole life in sri lanka but she was never appreciated) in sri lanka and how the western colonizers deprived their rights and land despite all the hard work they poured into to flourish the land. The meaning behind is soooo heart wrenching.

The plot followed the life of Vivian Fernandes-known as Divine, along with Naved Shaikh-known as Naezy. The role of Naezy was played by the actor Ranveer Singh (it was the actor himself who rap for the move) while Divine’s role was played by Siddhant Chaturvedi (Divine rap for him).
