Swing is musical italics
Most accurate definition i have ever heard
that sax player is a killer!!!!
When did she kill someone?
@Angie Zhuo But was she reported to the police, though?
@@PragmaticDany no, she will kill again
you probably dont give a damn but does any of you know a way to get back into an instagram account??
I stupidly lost the login password. I would love any tips you can offer me
@Rowen Asher Instablaster =)
She has a fantastic 1930's-1950's style of phrasing. Incredible tenor playing
Thank you! I'm teaching my 4th Graders about the History of Jazz and one of our vocabulary words is "rhythmic".
Swing is one of the most beautiful genres to ever be created. Just *SWING* it!
It is not a genre...
Luuk Woudstra
You’re not a genre
It's a subgenre of Jazz
What a great tone on the sax, great playing!
she sounds like Paul Quinichette.
The emphasis on 2 and 4 is something that is often so lacking in bassists. Put that in, and the whole band comes alive! thanks for emphasizing it. MBB
+Michael B-B Many bassists would disagree with you here! Even alot of the greats didnt put emphasis on the 2 and 4 and left that up to other members of the band(drums/piano/guitar). Also consider there are many instances when a bassists does not play on the 2 and 4 at all, like when playing half notes on the 1 and 3.
You are welcome. There is one very competent local bassist who suffers from a 2-4 deficiency. He knows the instrument and knows music, but does not play with that sort of swinging emphasis. I wish he did.
Everything that is alive and moves breathes: jazz is no different. A flat line flatlines the band, indeed. Later, MBB
@@sean_on_bass I couldn't agree more. An ensemble is an organism. Not every player should be fulfilling the same functions all the time. The bass player here isn't playing any harder on the offbeats. It's a phantom effect produced by the swing and the feathered rhythm on the kick drum. If you don't like four on the floor basslines you hate 99% of all great jazz bass players.
@@peterchoe quarter note basslines in jazz get boring very quickly; it is why all jazz [of that era and any modern covers] sounds annoyingly the same. like ska, where all ska sounds the same, due to the characteristic rhythm pattern in. every. and. any. single. song.
I love the little philosophical/political nuggets JLCO stick into their music vids. Wynton has come out with some profound stuff, but jazz at it's best is democratic, everyone gets their turn to shine and everyone supports each other. Its real generosity, and when someone is having a great solo all the people around them support them and elevate their music selflessly
Just found about this channel while searching some material regarding walking bass and jazz composing techniques. And wow I'm glad I did!
I compose music and already did some jazz, yet I have some serious holes in my jazz knowledge as rather I come from the "rock" side of music :) Nice video!
Sound very nice. How has it been for you so far?
Swing has a sort of "bounciness" to it. It really makes me want to rock my head to it! I love it!
Its all in the drumming, super fast and the instruments to keep up with that is amazing.
Thank you for this explantation!
These two ladies rock!!
fantastic !
This video blesses me!!!
I love jazz! Is beautiful!
Can you make a video about jazz fills and breaks and how to end a jazz song (drums) ?
This is great! Thank you!!
the drummer is cool!!
Most musicians are
I would have like to have seen more than just 15 seconds of explanation at the end of the video for swing era music, and perhaps some demonstration, to round out your video.
Thanks for the feedback! Check out this video then, which goes into swing band rhythm sections pretty thoroughly: czcams.com/video/yYQ8P7nOygE/video.html
Mint Julep Jazz Band juh
More videos about swing music please!!
As a metal head and a lover of Hip Hop Swing is one of the most fascinating genres in music history,so underrated, its basically Jazz on cocaine.
Camille's tone is incredible
Such lovely people.
This is a great video taking a complex idea and simplifying it. One of the best explanations of swing I've ever heard.
that guy plays piano on the right looks like Daniel Radcliffe
my thoughts exactly
Javier Yturriaga Aniel Radgercliffe
That *is* Daniel radcliffe
It is daniel radcliffe.
I literally thought it was him!!
The two-beat beat is generally reserved for the statement of the theme. Trying to reach a consensus about most aspects of jazz is to invite general disagreement rather than any real hope for a common basis. If you think the emphasis on the 2 and 4 in the bass shown here is not "right" and proper or otherwise reasonable in the style, ignore it or use some other approach. I no longer attempt to create agreement in most aspects of the jazz discussion. MBB
What tune are they playing it’s really good.
thank you
OH YES PLEASE !!! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
What was the song that they played in the intro?
Thanks, I finally know swing from you.
We need more women on the bass! 😎
Eeco Rijken Rapp : We need more COWBELL. 😃 Sorry, couldn't resist. LOL
check out Lake Street Dive. Fantastic singer and upright bassist.
Hell yeah! She's killer on the saxophone!
We don’t really
I’m here……. I play bass for the school jazz band, swing is fun,
What song is the tenor saxophonist playing? Pl
this is good
The way the girl in the blue moves her head is soo coool
Nice video, however, didn’t really answer my questions about what specifically makes swing swing.
A walking melody on bass or piano:
O O
O O O
O O
Accompanied by a lead, Beat, and underlying lead to tie it all together. This music here is not swing. Think Benny Goodman.
dotted 8ths.. more space between the 1 and the and. can be viewed as the first and third beat of a triplet, but swing doesn't have rules it can be tight or loose, have more or less room between notes
I'm not the best at hearing chords, but is this sort of based off of Rythmn Changes? I don't think it is, but it's bothering me so I thought I'd ask!
It is!
What tune is this?
yay
Nice straight ahead tenor :-)
1:47 I'm that guy at the back thinking 'i did not know that..'
Why have both a guitar and piano comp?
oh, thank you; that was very nice, but a little notation would make it a lot more easier to visualize the patterns!!
I love this channel, but they need to include some electric bass too!
What piece is that
?
Rushing or dragging?!
Like a democracy? not the american government
this didn’t age well
Aged like canned VCRs
who plays the bass.. ?
A guitarist and a pianist comping at the same time?
Is that harry i see 👀
What is Daniel Radcliff doing on keys?
hi
Is that you Potter??? 🤣
I like how this black beauty watch him as she is new to this but she is master sax player.
I remember somethin' it goes like...
"stop it.. get some help.."
Did this man really reduce swing to triplets?
I can't hear the guitar.
Pianist looks like Daniel Radcliffe
i love that black dude
HoNk :O)
Pianist looks like Aniel Radgercliffe
Why is it that u always barely hear the guitar lol
Can you see harry potter
HAHAHA yessss the wizardry on them keys

That's the least jazz looking jazz band I've ever seen - cool
You look cute.
