He told me he was not interested in doing the mainline clubs like the comedy store and Improv because he would have to change his street brand of comedy to appeal to a crossover audience. Back then i never thought he would get exposure that way. But then cable blew street comedy into the mainstream and Robin became known at set the stage for Bernie Mac and others who followed.
