- Bellwright is a medieval, survival, RPG with crafting, settlement building, companion management, automation, exploration, combat, war, questing and a storyline. Its got some big ambitions but does it deliver and ultimately is it good?

Just tried it.. requested refund after 10 minutes.. ultra settings looked awful, like a game from 14 years ago. Old interface... looks like a PS1 game.
I LOVE this game, I would love to see you and some of the crew do a lets play.
For myself I would love to see more gameplay from you and this game looks fun but seeing you playing the game from the start from the end will be amazing. But on all I appreciate the time you put into putting this CZcams video I get all thanks.
I've had this one on my wishlist for some time now, and every once in a while, check in to see what's going on. My own take on this video, to me it shows that this game needs more time for more development before I can get into it. I wouldn't object to watching you do a play through Spanj If you wished. Not sure if the chaos crew would be into this though.
I have been waiting for this one for a while now, looks interesting in its concept.
Hey, I like the new animated Logo clip. Very spiffy! (I would have assumed that Character creation system was just placeholder. Would keep my eye on it if that's important befoerr purchasing though for sure.)
It would be cool if the abient sounds of wilderness was actually realtime wilderness sounds. Like the closer you got to the birds or other wildlife, the louder it became, and then actually see the birds
The Devs of this game have a very bad reputation. They tend to not finish their EA titles but just abandon them after a while.
Not familiar with them myself, what else have they worked on?
@@Spanj Last Oasis, which was brilliant to start and now ruined. Looks like they just took the engine from it and slapped on a vanilla medieval setting and some automation options. A lot of things looked the same.
@@josephs883 ah fair enough. Never played last oasis but makes sense. I heard it had a really troubles release and dev cycle, hopefully they've learned some lessons from that and will apply them to bellwright
@@Spanj I believe in redemption, so I think if they show some loyalty to their LO fans and start supporting 3rd party mods, I will give Bellwright a look. They said they were going to, and I haven't heard anything about it since. If I'm wrong, please correct me.
The devs said if bellwright does good enough they will fix or do more with last oasis
Got more information about this game or more to the point the people behind this game.
The developer is from Lost Oasis and the publisher is Snail Games, both the developer and the publisher have track records of games being in permanent early access and getting abandoned. Definitely buyer beware here.

I joined most of ChiselChips over 3 hour long Twitch livestream of this game yesterday, with him and Gwen "the shield maiden". The game looks interesting, but the progression was slow, and the game dynamics weren't always obvious. They spent a fair amount of time figuring out how to do things, how to unlock things in the research table and get things built. Assigning your NPC to a task, etc. We were also wondering why you have four meat skewers over your fire pit, but can't seem to make a simple spear to fight the wolves. We never did figure out how to make anything beyond the club and the axe. I also found it interesting that you could assign an NPC to do research at the table by assigning something to research, but you couldn't research it by yourself. At least they never did. You could make something yourself if you left the crafting window open and just waited for the timer to run out. I think it was a full minute to make a simple trap. Exciting video that. Although the game has promise, I doubt I will be buying it myself. Enshrouded looks a lot more entertaining.
i like such games. NPCs and having my own settlement is my dream game. Medieval and japanese dynasty(i forgot the name) was not it. I hope this game does it. I even made my own villager mod for valheim because of how desperately i wanted a functioning village lol

All I see in this comment is maybes and idks based off someone else who couldn't figure things out. I'm sure in the right hands people will find ways to do all the things they couldn't. Therefore doubling the progression time if not more. Sounds to me like it's similar to tarkov in the sense it doesn't hold your hand and there is a lot of great features that will be found still.

I would happily watch you play this game. I will not pick it up for myself. I do like this kind of game, but have too many to play to add this one to the list.

Combat is stone age
Village building and management is stone age
Quests are stone age
Lot of balance issues, progression issues like the one I like the most - you have a tech tree and to progress to tech level 2 you need rags, that only can be crafted from Iron on a smithy tier 2 tech, but you need 15 rags to get to tier 2 first and some rags to get pickaxe to get this iron
Thats just one example of progression problem, but there are LOT LOT LOT.
Quests that need you to get items tier 2, when you are years and years away from tier 2
Hunting deers with X-ray vision that scan area 70m around is bullshit.
Lot of bullshit and everything feels just cheap.

would like to see you do more reviews of games like this may be one a week or every other week. I look forward to Bellwright, have not seen good reviews on the combat or the "Mass" battle.
If you Let's Play it I'll watch to see if it's something I'd be interested in playing. Not sure how I'd feel about a stream if it's as laid back as you say.
This seems like a lot of fun. I think this would make for a great series, although I really hope they improve that combat. That was painful to watch

Donkey crew abandoned their previous game in the middle of development. Don't give them anything.
And it also Snail Games as publisher which is just a cash grab publisher with what they are doing with Ark.

Im trying to google. What can you build in this game whats yhe building limits. Is it freestyle building or a set blueprint you click to build something
How is this different from Medieval Dynasty? From your description it sounds like a lesser rendition of the same game....
They are very similar but MD doesn't have army management or direct control of soldiers. I didn't have enough time with the game to get to that part but the two games are very similar for sure

@@Beio1992 world doesn't revolve around you. Not everyone wants combat in every game they play. Some, including myself, enjoy relaxing colony builders from time to time.

This is published by Snail Games so don't count on it not sucking in some money grab like they did with Ark.
And lets not forget, its developed by Donkey Crew (fitting name) who made Last Oasis and then abandoned it.
I would watch a let's play of this. It is a type of game I enjoy playing.
its only going early access, its not release so we have to expect its going to grow a fair bit before release, they just know how keen we are and are releasing it pretty early, we'll help them finish it by playing early access

It s fucking amazing. Bannerlord combat system, rdr2 details, and amazing building and crafting system. Looks like life is feudal

Translation : Medieval Dynasty, but with actual proper combat.
I get heavy Medieval Dynasty vibes from this but I'm interested in how it will progress.
So I played a lot of Last Oasis and wow its funny to me how much this game is like it I even spotted several of the same assets and the fog is the same combat animations, I'm not saying any of what I mentioned is bad per say but it looks kind of like copy paste with some tweaks kind of like how ATLAS was a copy past of Ark Survival Evolved but with a few tweaks. I'm still very interested in the game but I'm gonna hold my excitement till I see some more reviews.
This is pretty common practice for most devs, I mean Ubisoft are the king of copy & paste, almost every game they release is a retextured Assasins Creed

why the hate? last oasis did better than starbase but ultimately suffered the same fate. You're not hating on frozenbyte for making trine 5? Donkey Crew is making games to survive, they have to because their last one failed...
@@noah8162 there is a difference between running out of money/funding disappearing and what happened to donkey crew alienating the entire player base.
Also you must not know me that well, ive ragged on FB plenty and much of the studios fault lies directly on it ceo who i have also had strong words about,
Another problem with donkey crew is they aint a 20 year old studio with many games under their belt, they are a mod team turned pro with ZERO successful games

@@noah8162 Last Oasis failed, because their lead dev at the time Chadz wanted to make a game he wanted to play, and didn’t care what the people wanted, thousands of suggestions, feedbacks, voting polls, they themselves asked for on their discord got completely ignored and they just did what they wanted anyways, so it failed. Now look at them, Chadz ran away from his failure and left it to rot, now they have to depend on modders to save the game.

Trying to get friends into any game is tough. Getting them to play more than one or two sessions is near impossible. ADD is rampant in the gaming community.
I have to say it looks like somewhat like a Medieval Dynasty clone. I know it's not quite the same, but I'm just kinda eh about it. I'm not saying it's bad, and I'd likely enjoy watching you give it a go. But to be honest, it's probably not one I'll be playing myself.

Plenty of people saying that in this comments section too. While i've not played their previous titles from what I have heard they tried something, it failed, they tried to fix it, they made it worse. So they parked it and moved onto something new.

Odd choice of them to change the unique walking and running animation this game had a few months ago that comes from Last Oasis, to what seems like a very generic movement animation. Donkey Crew just never makes good decisions lol

Bc it's the developer 4 th game , the other 3 he never done a update , the are still at the beginning wen the came out , and then there is the publisher , Snail Games , also with a very ,very bad name about working at there games , so I don't give 1 euro on this game!

Avoid this game, look at Last Oasis and Of Kings and Men, they abandon their games. If you really like the idea of this game, then wait until it is out of EA...don't let them rip you off as well.
Early access average is 14 years do your research lol they they do have a bad track record but do you know how many developers who abandoned games as people back off as updates are late?

I won’t be touching this as Donkey Crew’s handling of Last Oasis and their previous tile was awful! And last Oasis was a real gem that got ruined. Not to mention it’s published by Snail games, one of the worst entity’s in the industry. This game will almost certainly fall victim to the same donkey crew treatment. Not worth giving them your money unless a 1.0 full release comes around.
People make reviews with 3 hours worth of gameplay now? This is why consumers cant trust youtube at all. At least youre honest.

dont waste your time on products made by donkeycrew as long as they are backed by snail games. theyve abandoned atleast 4 other projects before this one including last oasis. they arent ever going to finish this one either

The game looks great ,but unfortunately its DK/Snail games both have a terrible history of half done games and ripping customers off ,if only it was from different devs ,will never buy anything from snail after Ark ascended .
