In this video you will see how to sharpen a Felco #6 pruner using a Felco 903 diamond sharpener. More videos can been seen at our channel. shop.northwoodevergreen.com/
Over 2 days I have watched more than a dozen videos on sharpening the Felco pruner. You are the ONLY one who shows that the back side of the blade should have slight bevel. Everyone of my pruners had a back bevel when new. When I asked each of the other video presenters about this I was ignored, mocked, said I was mistaken and insulted. I feel vindicated : ) Thanks from So Oregon
Hi George, both sides have the same Grit or Roughness. The difference is one side is slightly concave and the other convex. The concave side (without logo) I like to use on the beveled edge of the blade as it fits better to the curve of the blade.
@@northwoodsevergreen1149 Thank you for your time replying to my comment. Touching it with my finger, I get the impression that one side (without the logo) is smoother than the other.
The third step doesn't make sense to me, isn't that side supposed to stay completely flat so that when you cut fine leaves it will cut and not just chew on them and ruined the plant? The side you are making a 5 degree angle is cutting like scissors it rallies on both sides being flat there isn't supposed to be any degree of angle.
I have about 7-8 pruners, Felco and Corona.. they all came with a back bevel as new. My neighbor brought over 5 pruners for me to sharpen, Felcos and Coronas.. none have ever been sharpened. ALL have a back bevel. This video is the only one of a dozen I have viewed over the last 3 days that addresses this. I have a theory as to why, but because I am a jerk. I am going to keep it to myself for fear of being mocked.
Of course it can. Once you know how to use a sharpener precisely enough for a pruner you can handle a lawn mower blade. The angle can be different though. Give it a try, just respect all the safety precautions.
To reconcile the previous replies, you could in theory use this to sharpen lawn mower blades, but it's not the right tool for the job. It would be time consuming, and potentially unsafe. A bench grinder is a much quicker way to bring really dull lawn mower blades back to a working edge, and a large hand file can touch them up more precisely. This tool is just too small to be ideal.

Practice for a few months correctly sharpening chef knives on whetstone. Its very doable in time but never at first. 22 is probably 3 quarters on heel of stone
@@jessestacken Hello It's a common term in the knife industry, I am no expert, but is has to do with the microscopic grain of the steel gets "laid down" when sharpening. This strengthening process "stands" the grain of the steel back up. You would need an electron microsope to see this. Hope this helps.

Thanks Chris! No over complications, nice and simple good explanation from someone who needs these to run his business :-)
Thank you Dawn

Great video and the 903 definitely works. No more buying a new pair just because they are dull.
FYI, you can buy fresh blades for felco cutters
Didn't realize its that easy! This is breeze once you get the hang of it. Thank you!

Hi! Is there a difference in the roughness of the two flat sides? One side has the "Felco 903" logo and the other is blank. Thank you.

Can this sharpening tool be used on other Felco products besides the pruner blades? Can this product be used on products that are not Felco products?
Hello Yes it can, you can sharpen any smaller blades, even non Felco products.

The Felco 903 instructions on the package show the back bevel.

Looks like you were at a 22.7-degree angle though. Probably ruined now :( I hate when instructions are so specific.
LOL! I will say though, this was a quick, easy, and specific tutorial. Well done.

Is it that quick if you haven't had it sharpened in a year?
Hello if you have waited a year it make take a little more effort, but the result will be the same.
I don’t get the “strengthen the blade” part of the process. Seems like that would dull the blade. Can you explain why that’s done or how it works?
@@jessestacken I would also like to understand this.
