I think they are great addition. One single mono profile doesn’t work in all shooting situations
Thanks for watching
The deep tones one almost seems to look like Cinestill Double XX film. I am curious how the original BnW in RAW showed as monochrome. On our Z6ii importing RAW to Capture One using the original BnW picture profile it still comes in as color. Interestingly, Capture One provides the Nikon picture profiles as “styles” - I believe they are faithful to the actual Nikon pic profiles. They don’t include these new monochrome flat and deep profiles, though.
Thanks for your comments.
Also, another question, which of the 3 mono tones are closer to film (standard process, no pushing/pulling etc.), in your opinion?
The original monochrome.
Hi Jules. I don t understand why Nikon doesn t develop more these picture controls and transform them in film simulation. With the habilité of loading profiles on the camera Nikon could put online a site where to find tested film simulation. I know there is / was a non secured site (not https) some years ago but it could be officialisée and advertised. Fuji is known for that but really invented nothing. It s not mandatory (I personally prefer to do,it in post) but it can be a good marketing item.
That would be great. I would love to have a Kodachrome simulation.
Would it be accurate to say the Deep Tone is designed to add contrast to the sky (the blues) and greenery (well, the greens), much like the red filter? That would explain softer b&w values… (I got excited about the DT mono initially, but after a few shots reverted to standard mono for my general b&w shooting)…
I think you may be right, but I think I would stick with standard mono and use filter effects and contrast adjustment.
