Its remarkable when you realize that the Shire is JRR's innocence, its his early boyhood wonderment at nature, country life, peace and bliss, that Frodo is very much himself, that the trip to Mordor and back that forever changed him was his experience in the first world war, and from that he wrought an astonishing tale that to this day inspires, captivates and enchants so many fans.
Thank you for sharing this. I watched the movies for the very first time a few days ago (I haven't read the books yet) and even though I don't know anything about the author, the story made me think of WWI. I'm looking forward to learn more, now I know why there are so many dedicated fans.
@@user-is7xs1mr9y piece of insight for you since you have not yet read the books. J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the hobbit as a fantasy book. It was never meant to be dark story based on WWI. It was simply about a hobbit going on an adventure. The movies twisted much of what happens in the books and left out a lot as well. It was much later when J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the lord of the rings centered around the events of WW2. I hope this doesn’t come across as blunt. When you have a family member who’s a die hard fan and knows the truths of this fandom, you tend to fall into it too. ^_^;;
The person who is reading this comment, I wish you a beautiful life full of abundance, love and comfort. Everything that you're stuggling with right now, will soon come to pass. Don't be so hard on yourself, you are extraordinary just being you. Sending lots of love 🫶

It's late spring here in the UK. The sun is shining, and the birds are singing. I'm sitting opposite a small canal under the shade of a tree while listening to this masterpiece. All I can say right now is that it is a beautiful day and I thank everyone who has read this post. I hope you all have a wonderful day and live a life worth living.
“Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam. Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something. Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam? Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.”
Imagine waking up one morning, in a big soft bed, covered by fresh smelling sheets and blankets, the fire in the fireplace slowly roaring and crackling, the cool autumn breeze coming in from the open window and on the kitchen table, hot bread fresh from the oven, with butter and jam waiting for you to begin your day with. You pull up a chair and you sit next to that open window, letting the cool breeze wake you up while you peacefully enjoy your breakfast and listen to the birds chirp..
And everythings just constant refreshment, with no worries at all. I swear man that is just my biggest dream! And it'll never happen cuz its WAY too good to be true cuz everybody has to wake up for stupid work. They can't just wake up like normal human beings. But either that or the beach would be ideal
Nothing like taking a mental break in the shire, with Gandalf randomly singing as he walks passed. Someday, when my eyes close for eternity... I want to reopen them and be in the shire. With the only few people who've ever cared.
Truly agreed.frodo didn't even through in the ring he couldn't give up the ring while sam had to constantly save him as well as he just easily gave him the ring back.
@@geowynleda4641 Tolkein based Sam in Lord of the Rings on the humble Tommies he knew when serving in the trenches of the First World War. He never forgot their bravery, kindness, fortitude and how they took pleasure in simple things even when facing constant danger and the worst of conditions.
@@alpacamaster5992 Each character was the hero of the own individual story. I hate when people forget the efforts Frodo went through. The ring is a very corrupting object and the fact that Frodo got to Mount Doom still with the intent to destroy it means he too has a huge heart and will of good. Frodo not throwing the ring away shows that evil denies moral capabilities. Frodo really only gets on the same wavelength of the rest at the very very end when he comes to grasp with the meaningful task. Frodo saying "I'm glad to be with you here Samwise Gamgee, here at the end of all things" shows true friendship and love. I hate that he's cast aside as an asshole in all light of Sam. Every character had their hardships and heroic moments.
“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.” This always warms my heart, I wish I lived there

The impact the Lord of the Rings films and soundtrack has had on my will to keep on going, no matter how difficult life becomes, cannot be described. I am just thankful for this master piece.
It is a shadow of an even more beautiful reality, my friend. Tolkien invented this beautiful world, especially in its revision, to mirror the Christian walk and faith. Jesus demonstrates sacrifice and humility, being willing to bear what we suffer from (our sins and lusts of the flesh, represented by the Ring), as he dies upon the cross. I have personally been transformed by this love, and I have not yet come across another like it, and I am quite confident that I never will. He is God, He is Lord, yet He exemplified perfect humility to reconcile us to a right relationship with our Heavenly Father. By His wounds, my transgressions and iniquities are paid for. By His chastisement, I have peace. By His stripes, I am healed. It is my prayer that you would see your deep need for the love of Christ, and return to Him. He exalts us in dying for us; He humbles us in our submission to Him. It is a beautiful reality, and one I am sure I will never quite understand the depth of.
Aww I hope you've been doing well! I have depression too, and I'm surprised at how often my mood fluctuates. Sometimes I'm in a peaceful normal mood, sometimes I'm actually relatively happy, but when I'm neither of those I just wanna die. Remember that there are always people out there who love you, and even though I don't know you, I'm rooting for you!!
Hi Matthew, "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy" by David Burns (and actually putting his techniques into practice) was a life-changer for me. It's easy & kind of fun, but you still have to work at it. :) Oh, and becoming Catholic made any lingering depression disappear in a puff of smoke! Hope this is helpful to you. God bless you and yours.
The Shire is actually a lot like my early childhood. The first house I lived in had a garden raised backyard with a garden and fountains and I would just sit there with the birds and squirrels and insects like a happy little hobbit.
My older brother used to read me the books when i was a little girl he would hold me in his arms and we would drink tea. Later when i was older we secretly watched the movies together when my parents weren't home because i was maybe a little young to see al the Orks. Now my brother lives on his own with his wife and two daughters (quite a buzzy life he has) and i'm buzzy with my study. I keep the books next to my bed and every night i can't sleep or when i just miss him i read a little with the music playing and i feel like i'm back in my brothers arms. I feel safe, loved and full of joy. Thank you for that and thank mr. Tolkien for creating such a beautiful and inspiring story
What i want is for them to include the full clip of when Balin and Gandalf visited Bilbo after the hobbit for dinner , Balin and Bilbo along side Bofur always had a bit of a friendship
It has been two years since i began therapy to resolve unresolved trauma and social anxiety. I reached the bottom when i started pinching my arms with my nails but i made progress, i think. To regulate my mood my therapist told me i can imagine an ideal scenario, a "safe place" where i can find peace. Well, my safe place is the Shire and i often come here and i think i'll keep doing this. I have not solved anything but to anyone reading this, keep struggling
The calming Shire exists is in all of our hearts if we just take note, its the golden morning sunshine streaming through a kitchen window or the gentle breeze whispering through the tree tops, its whispy clouds passing in front of a winter moon or the stars appearing after a storm, it's friends and neighbors gathering around a glowing bonfire or sharing the bounty of a well-tended garden, it is all the heart-warming moments our good earth provides and it surrounds us all right here right now if we can choose to see it.

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
I am soon to be 52. I work 12 stressful hours a day. This music still takes me to a place of peace and serenity when I need it. I still think of the words, ,”It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” These stories, this music, has been part of my Life for so long now. I wish you all a good day.
I think for many of us, Middle Earth feels like home. We can almost smell the air, feel the grass. I think deeply we all crave for a shirelike place. Where people care more about food, and people and enjoying life together. Listening to this music makes me feel happy. As if i'm walking in the shire with all of you fine people. As i read the comments here, it's as if i'm surrounded by friends and family who would join me in enjoying life. Appreciating the fine things in life. I drink to you fine people. Who make Middle Earth a real place.
That is exactly what Tolkien was aiming for: creating "Secondary Belief;" transporting the reader to another world so completely that they forget (or almost forget) that it's fiction.
Shire is a place I really need to be right now. A place disconnected from the trouble of the world. You know what they say Ignorant is a bliss. It's good to be aware of what happening around us, but sometime we just need to relax and forget about all those things that made us stressed and worried.
Hey, listener! I know that what you’re going through may be tough, but you are tougher! Everything will be okay, so keep you heart as kind, warm and loving as it is. Wish you good luck and happy life💜

@Dark Fire You are worth living, no matter what everyone in your life says. You ARE a good person, no matter how many mistakes you have made. There is a saying, "Life is 10 percent what happens to you, and 90 percent what you make of it." I know its hard to see it that way, I struggle with that myself, but I hope this helps you. I am not the person you need or deserve to tell you this, so might suggest going to a Church and talking to the Pastor? I hope you find your path. JohnScott
Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo? It'll be spring soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket. And they'll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields... and eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?
That was one of the best scenes in any movie. The emotions, you could really feel the longing and love for the Shire that they had. And even the despair they felt, thinking that they wouldn’t see it again. It still brings tears 😭 to my eyes.
No, Sam. I can't recall the taste of food, nor the sound of water; nor the touch of grass... I'm naked in the dark. There's no veil between me and the wheel of fire. I can see it with my waking eyes.
There is something about this soundtrack that reminds one of home. A warm fire, with bread baking in the oven and birdsong outside your window. The way plants look outside in the springtime after a fresh rain, when the sun hits them. I grew up on these movies, and am happily surprised that my 1.5 year old turns his head towards the tv when I play the movies and he recognizes the music. His hands resting on top of each other as he soaks in the magic that these films bring alive in your own home. The ability to bring comfort with a simple song may be the best joy of all. To listen and be transported to a place that you know isn’t real, but feels real. I know one day he will be like my friends and me, running barefoot in the grass, pretending we were also little hobbits on our own grand journey.

The Shire theme somehow perfectly captures both the calming warmth and security of being safe in your home close to people who love you, and the desire to return to that same security even though you know you never can. It’s a true masterpiece. It’s a soft warm blanket, a place of complete and total security, but it’s also the fond longing with which one looks back on the childhood they can never again experience.

What breaks my heart...Is remember what Gandalf Said Valinor was like? "A far green country, under a Swift sunrise." Ever wonder why Gandalf spent so much time in the Shire? I think it reminded him of Valinor...of his home. A far green country...under a swift sunrise.
thats interesting notion :) I agree :) Shire was most peaceful and some of the greenest and finely ordered of the lands around so it comes close as an echo of Valinor for him. Maybe he could not rememeber everything from the times in Valinor as he lived in ME for over 2 K of years but he favored the Shire becouse it has most similarities to what he rememebered from his immortal home.
Valinor is far more extravagant. There are multiple cities fairer than any on Middle Earth and the Valar live there. The simplicity of the Shire can't really compare.
Galadriel: Mithrandir, why the Halfling? Gandalf: Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I have found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay… small acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I am afraid, and he gives me courage.
What I love about that small scene, is that someone as powerful as Gandalf is not only admitting fear, but admitting that someone as "oridinary" as Bilbo Baggins gives HIM courage to believe things will get better. Such an amazing dynamic and wonderful characterisation

So sorry for your loss, it can be painful losing a loved one, believe me I know. The Shire as well as the entirety of Middle Earth gives me a peace that I can't describe.
Not to seem insensitive or anything, but if you ever do visit the Shire and you cremated your wife and you still have some of her. Bring a little of her there and mix her into that soil. She would appreciate it immensely I believe.

I wonder if Tolkien knew how important his world would be.
I hope deep down he knew he was making something incredible for all of us.
@@davidiscool777 Yes, Tolkein is a genius! This world of middle earth is so intricately made and it can be seen how much effort was put into it.
Of course he knew.
It was important to him.
And he spend 25 years creating it.
Some 40 years writing it.
@@chickenchasr1 Yeahh indeed he spent a long ass creating it
Josh Martin he does now. Looking down from heaven, I’m sure it gives him joy.
This comment is worded so phenomenally; it's no wonder no one else has replied. I love this, thank you for putting it into the world!!!! 🤗

Thank you for sharing this. I watched the movies for the very first time a few days ago (I haven't read the books yet) and even though I don't know anything about the author, the story made me think of WWI. I'm looking forward to learn more, now I know why there are so many dedicated fans.
@@user-is7xs1mr9y piece of insight for you since you have not yet read the books. J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the hobbit as a fantasy book. It was never meant to be dark story based on WWI. It was simply about a hobbit going on an adventure. The movies twisted much of what happens in the books and left out a lot as well. It was much later when J.R.R. Tolkien wrote the lord of the rings centered around the events of WW2. I hope this doesn’t come across as blunt. When you have a family member who’s a die hard fan and knows the truths of this fandom, you tend to fall into it too. ^_^;;
Tolkien rejects this intrepretation, look it up

My father passed away last week, he was a big fan and admirer of good music. Just a day before his death, we were listening to an interview of NFK. 😢

Frodo won't get far without Sam...
So true
a wonderful thought
THis is definitely a life to fight and work hard for. Like Frodo, Sam and all the others in LOTR :>)
And don't forget the frequent visits from Gandolf the Grey!
I too, hope Heaven is like the Shire. 🙏
The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom.
Those who wait on the God of their salvation will not be disappointed.
Nothing like taking a mental break in the shire, with Gandalf randomly singing as he walks passed. Someday, when my eyes close for eternity... I want to reopen them and be in the shire. With the only few people who've ever cared.
“I can’t carry the ring Mr Frodo. But I can carry you.” - Samwise Gamgee the hobbit with the biggest heart
Sam was the real hero
Truly agreed.frodo didn't even through in the ring he couldn't give up the ring while sam had to constantly save him as well as he just easily gave him the ring back.
@@geowynleda4641 Tolkein based Sam in Lord of the Rings on the humble Tommies he knew when serving in the trenches of the First World War. He never forgot their bravery, kindness, fortitude and how they took pleasure in simple things even when facing constant danger and the worst of conditions.
I think Sam was the real hero.

Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.”

Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo? It'll be spring soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket.

I agree my friend! There is so much emotion
What breaks my heart...Is remember what Gandalf Said Valinor was like? "A far green country, under a Swift sunrise."
Ever wonder why Gandalf spent so much time in the Shire?
I think it reminded him of Valinor...of his home. A far green country...under a swift sunrise.
thats interesting notion :) I agree :) Shire was most peaceful and some of the greenest and finely ordered of the lands around so it comes close as an echo of Valinor for him. Maybe he could not rememeber everything from the times in Valinor as he lived in ME for over 2 K of years but he favored the Shire becouse it has most similarities to what he rememebered from his immortal home.
wow so true!! and why he worked so hard to protect it. that's beautiful thank you.
you just blew my mind...
wow, i love the connection. That is amazing thank you
Valinor is far more extravagant.
Gandalf: I also wanted to get back at him when he just 'good morninged' me that one time
What I love about that small scene, is that someone as powerful as Gandalf is not only admitting fear, but admitting that someone as "oridinary" as Bilbo Baggins gives HIM courage to believe things will get better.
Such an amazing dynamic and wonderful characterisation

“The fact that our heart yearns for something Earth can't supply is proof that Heaven must be our home.” - C.S. Lewis. That is how most of us feel watching this video.
That's true. Great books awaken longing for Kingdom of Heaven (Arda Healed). Their beauty is a gleam of Divine beauty. The seeker of truth and beauty will sooner or later find out that "there is only one Road" and understand where it leads... :)
Very true. Lewis and Tolkien were good friends and you can see a lot of their faith come through in their writings.
This is the most underrated comment in the history of YouTub...so beautiful
Well said.

AAAHHHHHHHHH!! I CAN'T STOP READING THE COMMENTS! They're seriously too good to be true. Tolkien truly has created such a unique and wonderful world, both in and out of the Shire.

IKR? It almost makes me want to cry because I want to live in this world so badly. The Shire looks like such a beautiful place ;-;
It is normal to dream and miss a world I never live???
Well, ik I've had that feeling before
It’s just a dream of a slow and beautiful life... 😢 I guess everyone’s missing this place
Maybe not not now but in the next life you might......if you believe in all that though because I know I do
The universe is infinite how do you want to know that there is no planet somewhere in space where our dear little hobbit friends live we will never know so we can have the greatest fantasy thats my attitude in something infinite is everything so its not unrealistic or childish to dream something like that.
If you've dreamed it - you've lived it.
Who ever had the idea of doing this a FLIPPING legend
I think if you listen to this music daily you will probably live longer just by the sheer relaxation and the beauty of music
"In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit."
And thus it began.
...Yes, thus it began -- With a bored professor, steeped in the ancient lore and legends and languages of Northwestern Europe, grading a mountain of deathly dull examination papers and, upon finding a blank sheet, spontaneously scribbling those words...
-- though actually, come to think of it, if I recall correctly, it really began with a tired young man, steeped in the ancient lore and legends and language of Northwestern Europe, in a muddy and miserable trench in France, far from his home, scribbling on a spare piece of paper, "Eärendil was a mariner…"
Lol

It’s extraordinary to think that one man changed the life of so manny. Lord of the rings will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you Tolkien, for the joy you have given me and so manny other wonderful people
This music just wholeheartedly makes me so so so happy
I lost my wife this summer. She wanted to visit the shire. I hope someday I will visit the shire before I depart the earth to be with her. Till then the music keeps the memories alive
I'm sure you will go to The Shire together someday.
I think she is in the shire now because the shire is like haeven.
@@user-yp6dy4df8w Yes it does, peace undescribable,

CS Lewis has an answer to your statement. =D "The fact that our heart yearns for something Earth can't supply is proof that Heaven must be our home.” - C.S. Lewis.
There's a German word for that. Fernweh.
I'm a kiwi and this makes my heart ache, lucky enough to have been to Hobbiton too. Haven't been able to go back home in two years because of the Rona 😩
@@elizewyn Tolkien based the shire off of the English countryside though
Today on National Book Day, I’m using this as background music while reading Fellowship of The Ring. 😊
I cry ever time I listen to this. My dad was a huge fan of the Hobbit and LOTR series so we watched both series every 3 years and those times laughing during the movies and crying when they ended are one of my most precious memories. I will never stop wishing for Gandalf to come and take me own my own adventure.
Rest in peace Sir Ian Holm.
"It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door," he used to say. "You step into the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to."
Good yes.
"I can't lie about your chances....but, you have my sympathies."
It may not be from the Hobbit or lotr but:
"All the time in the world cannot heal some wounds, not even this crystal can mend the wound in your heart all you can do is remember"
If anyone gets that reference I'll eat my hat.
I hope this is where we go when we die.
Me too man
If we do. There will be Dwarves waiting for us, with all the food and drink we'll ever need. They'll be Elven minstrels playing soft music as Dear Old Bilbo Baggins, tells us all a story. The sounds of Hobbit children running and laughing filling the warm air along with the scent of the sweet flowers and Dwarven food.
I don't know if you're religious, but the way the bible describes heaven isn't like a bunch of angels floating around being super boring, but it's a renewed earth - pure, full, natural, unbounded beauty, exploration, adventure, friendship...I can't wait haha
PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.
GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?
GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.
GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.
@@NoahJohnson1810 i was going to mention similar...and might i add, with much more glory and amazement that we cannot even contemplate yet will be like home just like this music and this hobbit home🙏
Exactly the kind of music that comes to mind when camping or hiking through a densly wooded forest
The gratitude I feel in my heart for one man that somehow could create an immense, abstract, and yet familiar world that instantiates our noblest values, is absolutely immense. We truly stand on the shoulders of giants as we gaze over the horizon. Thank you JRR Tolkien, Peter Jackson, and Howard Shore for enriching my life.

Having visited Hobbiton, in The Shire in New Zealand, it is truly magical. All visitors were given a free drink (either, cider, tea or coffee) with cake or biscuits, sat in a cosy chair in front of a roaring fire in The Green Dragon in Hobbiton, was surreal! Absolutely magical!! I never tire of The Lord of The Rungs music. Thank you.
This is the greatest score ever composed, it has a magic that seeps deep in your heart and you are transported to heaven, the shire, middle earth, and it is alive and glorious and the tears you weep cleanse the deepest part of your soul. God bless Howard Shore, Peter Jackson, and J. R. R. Tolkien for this gift to humanity. ❤❤❤
