after working in a bike shop for a few years from when I was in my late teens to early 20's (now late 40's) I used a bunch of different stands, home brew, park tool, kestrel engineering etc.
    decided to build my own.
bottom half, built using the base of a remote wind turbine site, fully galvanised, so this thing can sit outside in all weathers, so far has stood up to 80mph winds and no blowing over.... but just in case, I have 6 holes drilled into the base, can bolt it to the planet if need be.
top half, scaffolding tube with half inch steel plate welded to one end, and a clamp head bolted to that, that can also be replaced, and fits into square tubing welded to the base plate, can be taken inside etc. but can also just be left out as it too is fully galvanised.
the result is, a bike stand weighing about 65kg, never falls over, never fails, and can hold a motorbike off the ground too.
