    Homemade bone broth is a staple in my daily diet. I use grass fed beef marrow bones plus a few simple ingredients to craft this wonderful, nourishing, gelatinous, collagen-packed broth! I credit bone broth as one of the things that has made a marked improvement in my health--both inside & out. If you're intimidated to make it yourself, don't be; it's the easiest thing to prepare. Join me in my kitchen and you'll see exactly how I do it! (Stay tuned 'til the end to see how I make my simple whipped bone broth + tallow latte!)

    I personally put the marrow and fat and connective tissues back in, and pulverise them with an immersion blender.

    24-30 hrs... you should get a slow cooker. You can leave the food in it all day and night and not worry about fire burning. I use mine to make chicken stock all the time. I drop a whole chicken in there for 4-6 hours, by then it's fall off the bone and I eat all the meat. Then, i toss the bones back in with water and leave it on high for 6 hours and have great chicken broth.

    In Bolivia we have daily broths for our main meal of the day ( at midday) they are made most days from scratch using meaty beef lamb or chicken bone, people then vary the type of other veggies and carbs they add depending on what whey have. This is eaten as a starter followed by the main. I grew up eating this healthy soups/broths watching my mum or grandma make it by boiling big chunks of bone and meat in a big pot with lots of veggies.

      I keep it for 3-4 days in my fridge, and I freeze it and consume it "fresh" (from defrosted overnight in the refrigerator when I need to replenish)...because it has no preservatives, I like to consume it this way so it's always fresh (or fresh from frozen, as it were). I've not ever tried making it in a slow cooker (I don't even own one), but I'm sure it would work similarly. I don't see why it wouldn't. But I can't say for certain as I have no personal experience doing it.

    do you always just microwave the broth to warm it up before drinking? great vid, thanks for sharing

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers  Před 4 lety +7

      I do, because it gels in the fridge and it's like a jello consistency, so I warm it to "melt" it so it's drinkable.

    Can I make my bone broth in a slow cooker?? X

    Hi Jennifer. How do you prepare the bones? Do you rinse it first? Or soak it first? Or do you just dump it all in there straight from the bag? I was wondering how you get rid of the scum. I've seen other recipes where they boil it first in water only (no other ingredients) and then drain it. Literally throw out the "first" stock with all the scum and then put the bones back in the now emptied pot, add new clean water (this time with veggies and herbs and spices), and then simmer for 24+ hours. Do you think this is unnecessary? I thought that process was rather tedious lol and yours (if you just throw in all the bones in there with no prep and then boil+simmer right away) was easier.

      @my_blossom Před rokem +5

      I've tried it both ways (throwing out the first stock vs keeping it) and I find that both methods work, but throwing out the first stock PLUS first soaking the bones in water for about an hour to drain out the blood improves the taste a LOT

    How many times do you boil the bones? In other words, how many jars of broth does 3 lbs of beef bones yield? Thanks!

    • @JenniferMyers
      @JenniferMyers  Před 4 lety +3

      It will yield about 1/2 gallon's worth. Sometimes a bit less. So I have enough for 3-4 days' worth in my refrigerator, and I freeze the remainder so I can enjoy it until it's time for me to make another batch.

    Banned from boiling bones in the house because it smells so bad and I'm honestly inclined to agree with my family. Any advice on dealing with the smell? Last week i left them out on the stoop on a little portable ring but id like a less wasteful option 😅
