It is heartening to see Atomic Scientist coming to give a talk on Sangam Talks. Kudos to Sangam Talks for growing and Dr. Kakodkar for his time. शतशः धन्यवाद |

War in Ukraine has shown that nuclear power plants are not the solution. Nuclear plants and waste storage facilities can be bombed by enemy nations and terrorists.

Talk is good. But what is the contribution of BARC to the country in the last 22 years? What happened to breeder reactors?
What is the role of nuclear energy when 10 times the needed electricity can be generated from solar fields?

10 years lost during Kudunkulam protests by missionaries/CIA/foreign NGOs so projects got stalled due to legal hurdles and clearances. The Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor was expected for completion in 2024 in Kalpakkam. And it takes a while for a reactor to be critical.
Nuclear is better than solar at least in India because you don't need to build storage batteries for night or cloud cover and also solar needs a lot of land. Not sure where you got that figure of 10 times but solar energy has a capacity factor* of a measly 24.9 percent, against Nuclear's 92.5 percent, so it is 4 times more efficient, and India has gotten great with nuclear waste disposal.
For last 22 years, I can think of Arihant nuclear submarine and contributing to ITER fusion reactor, others probably were patents that would be picked up by companies to develop consumer products or other research that I am not aware of.
Capacity Factor - ratio of actual electrical energy output over a given period of time to the theoretical maximum electrical energy output over that period
