This is the first album that Billy begins using the affectated "black bluesman" vocal styling. If you listen to any pre-Tres Hombres records - even going back to Moving Sidewalks - Gibbons' vocal tone is very much white-boy blues. This is where he starts to try using the black bluesman tone. It's effective, and to his credit, he's perfected it. I just enjoy listening to their albums in chronological order and seeing the change in their music over the years.
WTF? Dude. You’re WAY off the mark. Billy has always had that black blues vocals going on. He just didn’t use it all the time. I played Brown Sugar from their first album to an old black guy I work with that is steeped in Memphis blues and he said there is no way a white guy was singing that. To say this is the first time he used the black man blues vocal stying tells me you must be a newbie to ZZ Top.

That bass and rythem can return to sender any voodoo that’s tried to crawl up my leg…. JS
Absolutely. If you didn't know who they were and heard this, you would swear it was some great old Black blues singer.
WTF?
Yeah man it's like honey oozing from the honeycomb dude
Yea, he's feelin it here...and goin with it.
you are overthinking things.. he had that black voice on ZZs First already.. but you seem to sound interesting, at least to you ;)
ZZ TOP, always at the TOP!!!❤❤❤😅😅😅
GOAT status. Billy Gibbons is in the top-10, for sure! 👍
