Should the non hitting hand stay on the throat all the way down to the pocket even on higher balls?

I have a question Vincent. When you grip the racquet before u make contact, does that affect your consistency when you hit the ball? Example is having all 4 fingers in together or would your shot be compromised if you have your index finger slightly apart and upward from the other fingers. Hopefully what I’m asking makes sense
